Advice on Recording tools for youtube videos (1 Viewer)

There is so much out there when I search that Im really starting this so people can say if they like or dislike certain products

There has been a movement in education called Flipped learning. Without boring everyone, it boils down to the teacher recording lectures for the students to watch as home for HW and then doing more practical hand on learning in class. I made my first video the other day using screen o matic, and while the base version worked fine for my needs, I was hoping to get something with more of an editing function.

I have a laptop, no mac so imovie is out. The speaker on my laptop worked great as did the web cam even though I chose not to use it.

So Im essentially looking for a product that will allow me to record my screen, edit the video (maybe even with animations) and then upload it to youtube.

Maybe in the end, screen o matic will be all I need.

Any help would be great. Thanks

SnagIt is a good program for recording your screen. There are cheap video editing products available. Adobe Premiere Elements is about $150.00 and Sony Movie Studio is about 60 bucks. They will let you edit the video and allow you to save it in a format that works for You Tube.

Most important is to get a good microphone to record your voice. Don't go cheap. Professional stuff is only about 50-100 bucks.

this looks great at a great price point for me. How do you know if you need a good mic. The one I used the other day worked great. But im not sure if I was just not knowing any better

If the one you used sounded ok, you can probably continue to use it. My concern is that the mics that come with computers are not high quality and if this is a lecture that is for academic purposes, you need to be understood. Nothing is more frustrating than having to scroll back on the video because you couldn't understand the speaker. If somebody is watching on a laptop, they are already at a disadvantage because the tiny speakers are not very good. Just make sure that all the "t" and "s" sounds are crisp. If it sounds ok on your laptop, it's ok. If it's muddy, get a better mic.
