AFC Playoff Game: Titans at Patriots (1 Viewer)

Yeah, that holding call was very weak.
Did you see the blatant hold the Pats got away with on the play where Graham dropped the pass right before the field goal? I figured the refs where letting stuff like that go, as blatant a hold as it was. Guess the refs were just to cold to allow the Titans to take it to OT.

Vinatieri with another improbable game winning kick. He will achieve godlike status in NE (he close to that already). I really thought he would miss that 46 yard kick in the cold especially after how bad his first miss looked, and based on how the kickoffs looked. At best I gave him a 20% chance of making it.

The call was too bad for the Titans because it really had no effect on the the play. McNair released the ball quickly that play. But it was still a hold/takedown IMO. As far as the refs missing calls I think that went both ways. The PATs had several incomplete passes where interference could have been called.

Gotta love pro's dropping wide open passes off their heads when it's all on the line .
All you jackasses knocking Bennett for the last Titan play probably drop half the nerf balls thrown your way. The ball was heaved up & he tried to make a play but luckily Samuel got there before Bennett was able to regain control of the ball.

Contrary to some comments above, I wasn't happy with the play of the Patriots secondary. Poole was letting Mason get open all night and Samuels could have stopped Mason before the first down marker, let alone not letting him flip into the end zone. This just in, McNair and the Titans WRs are really good.

If that was considered a hold and take down by the Titans...then it sure should have been pass interference on No. 38 of the Patriots. But hey...that's home field advantage...right? ;)

Samuels also had a very weak half push against a scrambling McNair instead of going hard against him

I agree that the missed calls were probably pretty even, but it looked like a lot of those "interferences" were pats recievers giving up and getting run over by a db in good coverage.

You can't compare the two. A ref can't miss it when a 300lb lineman is taken down, it's obvious to anyone. You can make an argument for interference against the PATs but it certainly was not obvious or blatant. As I said before I thought there were several plays earlier in the game where the Titans could have been called for interference.

Maybe it's just me...but it seemed that the Patriot d-lineman was trying to twist past the Titan guard and was caught slightly off balance. The guard had both of his hands inside the shoulders, and used his opponents own weight and lack of balance to simply shove him to the ground. It's called finishing your block...and it shouldn't have been flagged.I personally don't believe there was enough 'interference' to call PI on the other play...it just seems fair to me that if you flag one team for a 'questionable' infraction...you flag the other team for the same.

Making up excuses for the Titans?

I don't get paid as much as him so it's ok when I drop the balls.I also am not in the NFL Playoffs playing for it all. there's NO excuse for him dropping that at all.

Just got back from Foxboro....still thawing out. Props to the Titans; EASILY the best team we've faced all year. We beat them twice and both games could've gone their way. I don't understand why mason didn't get more love from the OC in the 4th quarter though. We had NOBODY who could stop him. Also, Tennesee's O-line impressed the hell outta me. They are right there with KC's and Denver's.That said...NEXT! :boxing:

Hey, it still would have been 4th down, out of realistic field goal range. Who knows what happens on 4th and 1, but it's still a call I hate to see in that situation. It's not a flag you expect to see in a playoff game at that point. The Titans can't point fingers at anyone but themselves though. On their 2nd trip in the red zone McNair runs out of bounds for a 7 yard loss, instead of throwing the ball away, and then takes a delay of game on the next play. Of course there was the blocked field goal, and the final drop by Bennett. I think the real turning point of the game, however, was calling for the trick play after tying the score at 14 and coming up with a turnover. They had all of the momentum, and had been grinding on the Pats for most of 2 quarters. A couple of first downs at that point and they might have broken them, instead the ball went right back over.

Simply a great game. You can find 30 plays where the end result of the play could have been different, effecting the outcome of the game. I thought the catch on the sidelines by the Titans moments earlier was being juggled. It was obvious on the replay. It shouldn't have been a catch. That last play? No way was it interference. The ball clearly hits Bennetts hands prior to any contact from a Pat player. On the take down. Should it have been called? I don't think so, but it was. It did look to me like he had him by the jersey for leverage. That's a penalty, and it was called. A ticky tacky call, but it was called. The Titans were the best matchup against the Pats. The squaws and Colts may have finished w/ better records, and the Colts match up to be better than the Titans. But, in a matchup against the Pats, I think they beat the team that had the best chance to beat them. The weather was a non-factor, outside of the kicking game. It may as well have been 40 and sunny the way the passing games looked. It was what I expected, and I got a cardio workout watching it, because of the intensity. A great day for football, and how about that Bethel Johnson kid. Depending on who replaces Weis, that could be next years Chad Johnson.

No one touched him before he touched the ball, did they?
Actually it looked like he grabbed Bennett's arm BEFORE the ball arrived, but that contact did not interfere with Bennett's ability to make the catch. Bennett's a great player and I don't fault him for not making that catch. Nobody makes every play.

most of the plays where mason got the ball it was 3rd down and we went on a 6-7 man blitz, which i didnt agree with after it failed the first 2 times, yet they kept blitzing every 3rd down. anyways 17+14=31 bills fans marvel at the magic #

I was at the game and have a question for anybody that watched it on TV. When the Pats got the ball back to end the game and kept taking knees, after second or third down, Fisher was on the field yelling and screeming and his players seemed to be hitting pretty hard. What was going on?

From the TV, it looked like the play clock was late in starting, giving the Pats a few extra seconds. But it also looked like it was early on the previous play...2-11-NE41 (1:33) NE 90-Klecko & 50-Vrabel eligible. T.Brady kneels to NE 38 for -3 yards (K.Carter).3-14-NE38 (:50) T.Brady kneels to NE 37 for -1 yards.4-15-NE37 (:03) T.Brady pass incomplete to D.Givens.43 seconds after the first of these, 47 after the second, even though it was the first one that Brady tried to stall (which resulted in the pushing and shoving). My guess is that the guy running the play clock was too quick the first time and so he effectively made up for it by being slow the second time.
