Just wanted to make sure anyone signing up for the AFFL knows what they're getting into.

My partner and I won a nice chunk of change in 2009, and have only been paid a small percentage of our winnings. When he notified me yesterday that AFFL was holding 2010 sign-ups, it sent my blood boiling...

...I mean, the STONES these guys have to do something like this...it's absolutely galling.

I just checked out the AFFL site and it says "2009 Sign-ups Now Open!"

Even though it says 2009, I clicked on the sign-up button and saw no page to actually sign up.

I noticed the message boards do work there.

We have never taken advertising money from AFFL ever. The thread was moved because Joe likes to keep the Shark Pool clean and littering it up with these types of posts isn't what we want the Shark Pool to become. Plus these threads tend to disappear more in the shark pool with no new info on the subject. In retrospect, maybe that was a bad decision to move the thread to the Looking for Leagues area. We are fine with that criticism and not exactly how we will handle these situations going forward (maybe keep it in the pool for awhile?) The "new" owners had reached out to us and told us they had planned to make previous owners whole and were looking for a fresh start. We allowed both sides (victims and new owners) to use our boards to try and work this out going forward. Call us naive, but we were hoping for a good solution for the players. This ownership group did give credits to previous owners and looked like they were on the right track. Then came the news this offseason that they failed to pay many people including $60K to the overall winner.

Glad you cleared this up, I was thinking about joining until I read that they didn't pay out last years winners. Site looks Great and now that everything looks to be in the past I and a friend will now join. Anyone want a piece of us and are not scared join so we can 'Give you a Beat Down' I can't wait for the season to start.Good Luck to all of the Footballguys who join AFFL, and I hope you don't mind finishing 2nd.

How can you really know if any Contest paid out for sure? You don't believe them that they paid? So why would you believe other Contests that said they paid out?

Did you read the thread(s)? There's a lawsuit pending against them for failure to pay last year's winner (and they are not denying that has not been paid yet).

I hope at some point they do finally make good with last year's winner(s) that weren't paid but they shouldn't be doing it with this year's money. The whole thing smells bad and I wouldn't ever feel good about doing business with them.

This was posted by the Gold Level winner's lawyer on July 26th... (Also, as of August 6th, none of the ME winners had been paid)

"Today, I appeared in Court for the first time on this case. Wade, Bob & CFS hired a lawyer late last week to represent them, and they intend to try and dismiss the fraud claims against them.

The lawyer told me that his clients did not intend to defraud anybody."

Consider that statement with the following. On June 26, 2009, Wade Golab and Bob Smolarczyk appeared on Red v. Blue to discuss the AFFL and their intentions in running leagues last year. Thanks to Scott Atkins for forwarding this recording to me.

Here are some direct quotes from Bob and Wade, the men who did not intend to defraud anybody, to the fantasy football consuming public on that day:

Wade - Regarding guarantees they can make that the $ will be safe - "The best guarantee we can give is that we are willing to put the money in that is necessary to get the people paid that every year the contest goes".

Wade - regarding the credits given to people and their knowingly having to put their own personal funds into the AFFL - "We are willing to do the same thing this year, and every year, until this becomes a contest that is gonna fund itself", and "I think that we are going to be close based on signups coming back".

Wade - regarding their willingness to make the AFFL work, or cancel it if it doesn't - "We are willing to put more money into this to get everyone paid out every year that the contest goes. If it ever looks like that is something we are not gonna be willing to do, we will just not run the contest that year. If it gets too daunting, and costing the two of us too much money, then we will just cut our losses. Because we do not want to be in that situation (Neil Wickham's) and go through something like that again".

Wade - "There is no downside. it's just putting all that money in, you know, months ahead of time."

Bob - We are here for the guys that play with us...We're just trying to return the favor and support everyone out there and take care of them."

Bob - "The AFFL name will be cleared in another year or so after payouts again" and "I'm not in it to screw anyone out of money".

If nothing else, he needs to get a stern cease and desist warning from Joe for promoting these frauds.The AFFL chapter in FBG history was so regrettable, I would hope this gets nipped in the bud quickly.

The suit is underway. The FANTASY PLAYERS ASSOCIATION'S legal advisor Jack Haan is representing the Plaintiff and grand prize winner Jeff Gill. As soon as we have further developments we will inform everyone. Follow the FPA on Twitter or FB if you want to be kept in the loop or just check back here.

We ran ads for AFFL some time ago but once they failed to pay their winners, we no longer accepted advertising from them.

Joe why did you run ads on AFFL? Why did you not post that AFFL did not payout? Were you paid in full?

You already admitted above that you are not even playing in their league...so what is the point of your responses?
