Anyone ever been? Want to do the Maasai Mara, thinking about basing in Kenya instead of Tanzania. Wife and I have 15K set aside, but that needs to cover flights as well. We have ten days (October 9-19) to take this trip.

Any advice, recommendations or any other thoughts?

Lived in Kenya 3 years. Definitely do Masai Mara - best for lions, giraffes, herds of zebra, wildebeast, etc. Stay in one of the tented camps. Three days/two night is plenty in any of the parks. Second choice is Amboseli - elephants with Kilimanjaro background scenery. Then do a one nighter at Lake Nakuru. PM me if you want more detailed info.

Speak up if you'd like any info on Morocco. But it doesn't sound like that kind of trip, and that's the only place on the continent I've ever been.

Family runs a school in Madagascar.

Wouldn't recommend it, though. There's much better places, namely Namibia.

Don't have sex with any of the women.
Well, the wife and I are planning to try to make our first kid this trip, so hopefully I'll get to have sex with one woman.

But, catching Ebola would definitely make for more memorable photos.

Well look here, I'll be ### ####ed if it isn't wittyusername. Wow.

Sounds like you're pretty set on where you're going, but I have to put in a good word for Zambia as a safari alternative. Amazing place. Loved South Africa as well and also went into Zimbabwe, but Zambia is where it's at.

Plenty of good off the grid places in Africa, they just need to be somewhat near civilization. Mozambique is really awesome, as is Ethiopia. I think I'd send someone to Ethiopia, but I wouldn't send them to Mozambique unless they have done a lot of travel. Maybe experience in Central America. People don't understand how far off the grid they are until they go to places like Northern Mozambique or into the desert in Namibia.

Ethiopia is very, very high on my list of places I'd like to go (in large part for the food). I might pick your brain a bit when it happens. :)
