After 4 weeks, I must say I'm happy with my Lions... (1 Viewer)

Week 2: 13-27 L

Week 3: 19-14 W

Week 4: 24-48 L

Overall, I must say the offense is definitely improved. Obviously needs more work, and will continue to be a work-in-progress, but it's slowly getting there.

The glaring weakness obviously is the defense. Granted they were up against a high-powered offense week 1 that will score a lot against a lot of teams. Giving up 45 and 48 definitely shows a lack of stability in a number of areas, including special teams. But they do have some young guys in there, and will hopefully continue to build over the coming years to build a stronger base.

Stafford is doing what I expected -- making do with what he has around him, and making rookie mistakes. He has 3 TDs and 6 INTs and 1 rushing TD and 896 passing yards. Extrapolate that over a full season and you've got about 12 TDs, 16 INTs, 4 rushing TDs, and about 3600 passing yards. Not the greatest stats, but serviceable. The TDs would be a bit low and the INTs high, but even a lot of the best QBs struggled their first year or two (even Peyton had more INTs than TDs his first year). I hope he continues to improve (and in a few years time I'll be able to say I was wrong about him).

Much like last year, I think one of the biggest issues is that they forget there are TWO halves to a game, not just one.

Week 1: Down big early, 28-10 at the Half (end up losing 45-27)

Week 2: Winning 10-7 at the Half (end up losing it 27-13)

Week 3: Up 13-0 at the Half (hang on to win 19-14)

Week 4: Tied 21-21 at the Half (blow it the second half and lose 48-24)

So minus Week 1, where they were behind early and the entire game, they were in three of the four games. I recall several games like this last year where they did well for 2-3 quarters, and then fail to finish. Hopefully Schwartz can work on stopping this...

Cannot agree more... while the record isn't much better than last year... this team is MUCH IMPROVED over last year's... and Stafford looked good against a good D today before going down hurt... with the passing game clicking the running game should continue to open up... they look like a shoo-in to beat CLE and STL... and might even surprise vs a divisional foe (as long as Stafford comes back and its not CPEP in there)....

With a solid D the team could be 6-10 (or if lucky 8-8)

I've been much more impressed with Stafford than I thought I would. He's making rookie mistakes but playing well for the most part, they have some good playmakers on offense and will be decent soon if they can get some defensive help.

Lions are doing great. They need another year to build both lines but they are doing well against some tough opponents. Their running game has not been up to speed and I blame that on the lack of running lanes. And yes, Stafford is a keeper. Looks great this year.

Yeah, Stafford definitely seems to have "it". He's made a lot of dumb decisions, but he seems to make less of them each week and he's shown a lot of confidence and playmaking ability.
