After sleeping on it all night... (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
A few positive notes:

- As far as I can tell, all of the Raiders remembered to wear their helmets.

- Furthermore, none of them wore their pants backwards.

- Rookie LB Thomas Howard had 9 tackles.

- Justin Fargas averaged 7 YPC (most of it against the Chargers backups)

- Andrew Walter looked to be fairly composed.

That's all I got. Oh, wait.... the other good news is, even if Green Bay beats us out for the #1 overall pick next year, they probably won't use it to take a QB. Say, can we take an owner or a coach with the 1st pick???

Feel for ya. Your Raiders looked worse than the Cleveland Clowns, last year!

Walter should start... soon. With that line, they had better learn WCO in a hurry. However, your defense look pretty sad as well.

No spirit, like dead men walking.

Did Fargas' late yardage spree prevent records from falling? Probably not, but it was nightmar-ish to say the least.

Madden is still available. Some more positive notes...

Randy Moss didn't run over anybody.

Jerry Porter didn't trip any of his own teammates running up the side, of course he didn't have the opportunity to either.

Art Shell didn't have a heart attack, this can be taken both ways.

Art Shell was re-hired by the same guy that fired him.

That should have told you almost all you needed to know.

No wonder so many coaches turned down the job.

It's all so absurd that I can only laugh. What else is there to do?You will find about 50 posts from the past several months where I completely bashed the acquisition of Brooks and the hiring of Shell. How could ANYONE think this duo would get anything done? I'm just a ham-'n-egger fan. You would think that people who get paid to do this stuff would make better decisions.

I also, of course, have to blame the O-line, but who oversees their development? SHELL!

I have been watching Raider games since the early 70s. Without hyperbole, that was the most disgusting, embarrassing performace I've ever seen on a football field by my team. Just puke-inducing horrific.

The good news is that I'm going to get about 500 points out of my Baltimore defense this week.

Think Bobby Petrino would have had the troops a little more prepared? Man, I wish Al would have been able to hire him to run this offense instead of Bob Newhart.

You could hardly tell that their offensive coordinator had been out of the NFL for 13 years.

Unless I missed the report, that states otherwise, I think the fact Randy Moss did not walk off the field to the locker-room is a big positive. If this was 4-5 years ago and the same game took place I believe he would have abandoned everyone. I think this may mean he has grown up a bit, maybe?

Or the tunnel was to close to the end zone and he just could not find it...

Jerry Porter was reportedly "seen laughing and pumping his fist along the bench when (Aaron) Brooks was sacked a seventh time" Monday night.

even better... what a great guy

I was really high on Gallery, but he is not good. They looked very poor last night and frankly, I'm wishing the Titans could play Oakland every week for the rest of the year.

Give it time.Randy, I'm glad to see you getting what you deserve.

I actually thought the same thing. I kept waiting for him to blow up, but he remained calm and talked to his team with encouragement. Maybe being named team captain has impacted him. Brooks is still a punk. Smiling on the sidelines after getting yanked. He could be my least favorite football player ever. EVER. Gutless, heartless, aloof, indifferent, playing for the paycheck and the paycheck alone. Hope Ray Ray doesn't break one or two of his legs next week. Yep..... really happy we didn't take Leinart or Cutler.

Good thing they had Andrew Walter and Aaron Brooks on their roster so they didn't need to draft Leinart or Cutler.
There isn't a pocket quarterback in the NFL that would have looked good in their situation last night.
But they wouldn't have looked that bad either. What isn't shown is how indecisive Brooks is. His decision making is terrible. A bad QB that holds on to the ball too long makes a bad O-Line look even worse.

Yes, and the continued 7-step drops against a team you cannot block makes it that much worse.

BTW, it's week 2 and we already have an argument for the people in the "Always Start Your Studs" camp. I took Randy in the 3rd round, and there is NO CHANCE I'm playing him this week in Baltimore. How can I? I'd be wasting a spot in my starting lineup. I also have Holt and Bruce... I'll start both of them against S.F.

This is great.... week 1 just ended, and Moss is already a guy who you have to spot play. :lmao:

What will the line be for that game? Baltimore -30? And further, is there a number too high that you would be uncomfortable playing? I think I'd be willing to lay 3 full touchdowns here.

I think I would hesitate to play Moss or Jordan until that team shows SOMETHING. They looked more asleep out there than the Titans.

Can Leinart play tackle?
Exactly.I keep seeing people rip Brooks apart on this forum and there is not much else that he could have done last night. The loss wasn't Brooks' fault by a longshot. If you're looking for someone to blame, then blame the playcalling, offensive line, and dropped passes.

Honestly, 2.25 seconds should not be too long.

Those are all factors, true. But like I stated before, Brooks can't make a decision to save his life and it makes his bad situation worse. But whatever. If some of you want to cling to the notion that if Brooks had more time he'd be a better QB, I don't mind. Delusional people ceased to bother me long ago.He has REPEATEDLY shown that he is a terrible, awful, stinky, rotten, useless, wretched NFL quarterback. More time won't change that.

As a Moss and Jordan owner, I'm so glad this game started after I went to bed. Might not have been able to sleep after watching the scene you guys are describing. I may have to go back to my VBD draft sheets to see how I ended up with Moss on 2 teams and Jordan as my 11th pick in my big money league. Next year I'm drinking at the draft!! :wall:

Baltimore is favored by 10½. What a joke.I don't even have kids, but I'm putting their college fund on the Ravens.

Well, looks like we are playing for draft picks this year (as expected). I had them with a chance for 8-8, but that is in the crapper!

For that high a pick, Gallery needs to pull his head out of his ####! I blame the coaching staff for not playing him at LT out of the gate, which MIGHT have helped his development. I still hold out hope on him, just because it was Merriman who has been a monster BUT that is why he was picked #2 to stop those kind of players.

Brooks makes me ill. give the ball to Walter to see if he is the deal, send Brooks on his way next year, and if Walter does not pan out-GET A QB WITH THE FIRST PICK NEXT YEAR!

It is hard to believe this team went to the Super Bowl 5 years ago!

Jon Gruden-We miss you!

If Raiders fans need some hope look to the 1989 Pittsburgh Steelers. They lost their first two games 51-0 (Cleveland) and 41-10 (Cincy) and still made the playoffs with Bubby Brister at QB and Tim Worley at RB. Chuck Noll was a genius.

What was a shame is that the Raiders D didn't play THAT bad. Sure, LT ran over them early, but they held often. Could of been cuz of the rook QB, but they gave the O chances. I don't think there is a worse O line in the league. Why in earth they were using a 7 step drop is beyond me. The best play was the smoke pass to Moss. I don't see them scoring next week either, but I have to play Moss unfortunately. I knew he'd be high risk, but I really didn't think the Raiders would be that bad.

Unfortnately they have Art Shell. I never thought the next coach would make Turner look like a genius.

Don't be naive.Once that game was 13-0, Marty realized that there was no way in hell Oakland would score on his defense if the game lasted 12 quarters, so he called fifty running plays in a row. They could have moved the ball if they needed to. There is nothing positive to take away from this game from Oakland's perspective. Nothing.

I'm sort of stunned that line is so low...in addition to having a brutal O-line...the raiders have to travel cross country to play a 1pm game on a short week. There is nothing that says this won't be a Balt blowout, but maybe the thinking is that Balt won't score that many points.

Art Shell should be fired after that game. That was the single worst coached game I can remember in 30 years of watching the NFL. He made absolutely no offensive adjustments and looked as bored on the sidelines as the rest of us watching the game. How can this guy motivate anybody?

As a Packer fan who watched the Pack get crushed at home by our rival...

...even I felt bad for Raider fans! :banned:

That was the worst offensive line play I have ever seen. Robert Gallery is an over rated chump. Raiders will be lucky to win 2 games this year.

Art Shell was re-hired by the same guy that fired him.

:goodposting: You really wonder how all of this took place, anyone with with half a brain could see this was going to be a train wreck. Either Al Davis should have his senility checked, or maybe he is going the movie Major League on us and is purposefully putting a terrible team on the field in hopes for a new stadium or another move???? In any case I felt that same sick feeling in the bottom of my stomach and I am far from a Raider fan. How a team can continually take seven step drops while WR's run 20 yards down field over and over again made me sick. It was almost like watching someone pick on a disabled child. Art Shell's tubby face with no facial expression also made want to vomit, this is football show some damn emotion.

Scenes from last night:

1. Sapp kicking the dirt in frustration

2. Brooks looked lost watching Walters take snaps

3. Moss trying to pep his O-line

4. Moss talking to Brooks and Brooks staring out with a depressed look

5. Shell and his "deer in headlights" expression

The very best part was at the end of the game, there was about 1 minute left and Oakland managed to get the ball in the red zone. You could read Marty's lips and he said "Don't let them get in the f***ing end zone." Marty was playing hard ball last night.
