Some random fun facts as I think of them.

None of the clubs left alive in the AFC have been to the super bowl this decade.

Only one club still alive in the NFC has been to the super bowl this decade.
There are two head coaches left who have won a super bowl - Mike Shanahan and Mike Holmgren.
The Seahawks became the first playoff club this season to lose the turnover battle and still win the game - and they still won by two scores. In some ways I think that is the most impressive type of win - it shows you are so much better than the other club that turnovers don't matter.
Gibbs and Belichick, who were a combined 28-6 lifetime in postseason as of this morning, both lost today.
Jake Plummer's two playoff wins are against the Aikman-Smith-Irvin Cowboys and the Brady-Belichick Patriots.

The first vs Dallas signified the end of an era. Does this win signify the end of another?

Very nice observation. I think it might, but then again, I hate the Pats, so don't take me at my word.

AND they did it without Shaun Alexander

Personally relieved that I will not have to watch the Patriots in yet another SB this year.I doubt this is the end of them as a strong contender though. Only Miami are threatening them in their own division. Age should not be a major factor on defense - on O, either. They'll be back in '06

A rematch of Holmgren-Shanahan will be interesting. But like I said in the beginning of the playoffs, I'd be shocked to see anything besides Colts-Seahawks in the SB.

Hawks? Seriously? Would shock you if the Panthers beat Chicago and Seattle?

Here are the Pythagorean winning percentages for each of the playoff teams. You can read here for more info on this.
Code:
IND	0.796SEA	0.771DEN	0.733CAR	0.726PIT	0.726NYG	0.668JAC	0.668CHI	0.645WAS	0.618CIN	0.608NEP	0.567TBB	0.554
Obviously the health of Shaun Alexander is a major factor, but the Seahawks were clearly the best team in the NFC this year and were absolutely dominant at home. The Colts were even better. 15 of the last 20 SB winners had a Pythagorean winning percentage greater than what Denver had this year. Colts would have the 5th best one of the last 20 years behind the 85 Bears, 96 Packers, 91 Redskins and 00 Ravens.
