Ahmad Brooks: Stud or Dud? (1 Viewer)

I know he started some as a rookie, but can he be the man in the middle for Cincy in 2007? The guy is a beast physically and is only 22 years old, although potential doesn't mean squat in the nfl, it's what you do on the field/practice field and all those mini camps that matter.

Depends on whether Odell Thurman comes back and how much improved Brooks has been since last season. He has the tools.

I know he left school under bad circumstances, but for joining a team that has a police booking once a month, at least he hasn't been one of them for the past year.

I can't find the quote, but to paraphrase, I recall a few weeks after he signed that he said he knew he'd have to work to learn the system and he would just have to wait his turn to play. When the coach told him to go, he goes, when he tells him to sit, he sits. I thought that was a change in attitude, or at least what I though his attitude was. It seemed like he knew he was going to have to do things differently in the NFL.

How much Brooks plays may hinge on how healthy Caleb Miller is.
That's probably correct. I've given up trying to predict what Marvin Lewis wants from his linebackers. On one hand, Miller got the nod at MLB down the stretch over a couple of other options, on the other he gets tendered at the lowest level and the coaching staff made it known after the season that there are on and off field issues Miller needs to work on.Technically, Brooks fits the profile of Marvin Lewis' ideal linebacker. Possesses sideline-to-sideline range with a physical and aggressive playing style which are the MO of predecessors like Ray Lewis and Odell Thurman. Brooks certainly looked the part during the first six or seven quarters he played, then seemed to lose it.He'll get plenty of opportunity to prove himself ready in mini-camps. Thurman is ineligible to return until mid-July and there's no guarantee he'll be in playing shape by training camp.
