Ahman Green Injury Clarification (1 Viewer)

Fear & Loathing

Footballguy
Can we get an official ruling on Ahman Green's current injury situation? I remember at the time of his injury reading that it was a torn thigh tendon, and I found this news item from Rotoworld last October:

Packers placed Ahman Green on injured reserve with a quadriceps injury, ending his season.

Green sounds determined to make a full recovery, but it's highly uncertain how soon he can be 100% again. Green's health will determine what level of interest he gathers on the free agent market.

Coach Mike Sherman confirmed Monday that Ahman Green will miss the rest of the 2005 with a torn thigh tendon.

He will undergo surgery Tuesday. Coach Sherman opined that Green could be ready for training camp next year, but it's uncertain whose training camp that will be. Green is a free agent this off-season and isn't likely to get attractive offers coming off a rough start followed by an injury like this.
OK, so that says torn thigh tendon/quadriceps injury. Now I remember reading on this site recently that Ahman Green's injury was a torn ACL. Furthermore, here is a quote from Rotoworld's most recent update (January 26, 2006)http://fantasyfootball.rotoworld.com/conte...guenum=&id=4261

Ahman Green doesn't expect to be able to run until early May.

He probably won't even be fully recovered from his ACL injury until training camp. It's quite possible he will sit on the free agent market until he can prove he's healthy. He probably won't get more than a one-year deal for the league minimum plus incentives, and we doubt it will be in Green Bay.
So what is it? ACL or thigh tendon? Or both?Wouldn't his prognosis for '06 be better if it was a thigh tendon? I was counting on him being ready for the start of next season until I read the ACL reports.

I came across an article that said his rehab was going well and he was head of schedule. I'm not sure which it is but that was recent and might help your search

There's no sense pinning the rushing woes solely on the injury epidemic that coursed through the stable of halfbacks. Even before Green (torn quadriceps) and Davenport (broken ankle) were lost for the season by the sixth game, the Packers were headed toward the wretched depths of the league rankings, where they ultimately finished 30th in yards per game (84.5) and 31st in yards per carry (3.4). Only two years earlier, the team ranked third with a franchise-record 159.9 yards per contest. Practice-squad pickup Gado surprisingly settled in as the fifth starting featured back in the second half of the season and put the once-productive Green to shame with three 100-yard games in a space of five weeks, highlighted by his team-rookie-record 171 yards in the Dec. 11 overtime win over Detroit. The following week, however, Gado's late-season splash prematurely ended because of a torn knee ligament. The injury didn't require surgery, and he should be ready for a busy off-season of activity with the new coaching staff. Green and Davenport will be unrestricted free agents, and Green has expressed a desire to re-sign with the team, which will probably bring him back with an incentive-laden, one-year contract. The showdown between Green and Gado for the starting spot shapes up to be the most intense battle of the preseason.

I'm wondering where that leaves Davenport, having the keeper option on him for the upcoming season.

Looks like he may be the one to be traded from that article and it looks to be a buyer's market right now.

Neither Green nor Davenport can be traded. They're both unrestricted free agents, and at this point, it looks like both may be playing for different teams in '06.FYI, I e-mailed rotoworld to make sure they were aware of the discrepancies on their Ahman Green injury info. I'll post the response as soon as I receive it.

Bri: thanks for the legwork to find out some more definitive info.

Ahman's injury was just a torn tendon, but supposedly the recovery time is similar to an ACL injury. That may be where people got confused.

I don't understand torn and no surgery, I think the author meant "slight tear"
It depends on the type of ligament that has been torn. If it is one of those ligaments that has good blood circulation, surgery often ist not necessary (MCL or some of the ankle ligaments for example). Other ligaments almost always require surgery to grow together again.

In another Ahman Green injury thread here on this site I read that the tendon is actually a problem that has bothered him since college but apparently it became urgent this season. No link as I had to search for quite a bit about a month ago to find that little nugget

You're welcomeRotoworld just regurgitates the info like 9000 other FF sites, mine included. It's not their fault. Maybe they should have said "contradicting a previous report" Journal Sentinel.....but really some newspaper goofed

As far as them being traded well you're right but they have options. They can name one transition player(unless they used that on Franks though I'd expect he gets cut) and another franchise player. Really though both are coming off injuries and if the timing is right(key point) they can be had cheap. If the "market" looks like Edge, Shaun, Jamal, Chester, whomever have all taken up the starting spots that were open and the timing is just right it can be done. What NFL team wouldn't want that trio of backs? Gado, Green, and Najeh? So they gotta at least make a run at it if they see interest is low in Ahman and Najeh. IMO they gotta re-sign one of them.

Gado (post above) could be fragile could be OK. Gado blocks like most rookie backs do. If Favre's there ya gotta protect "the man". If Rogers is in, well he needs every half second he can get and as big a threat of a running game as he can get.
