Ahman Green IR'd (1 Viewer)

Texans placed RB Ahman Green on injured reserve, ending his season. After previous groin and hamstring problems, a knee injury ends Green's season and perhaps his time in Houston. Limited to just 144 carries in two highly paid seasons with the Texans, Green turns 32 years old in February and likely won't be back as Steve Slaton's backup. For now that job falls to Ryan Moats, which will make it tough for coach Gary Kubiak to go through with his repeated promises to lessen Slaton's workload.

Time for Slaton to beast now. Green's been holding him back the past couple of weeks. No more worrying about that.

I think this is the catalyst for many ff teams playoff run. Slaton is due for some huge games if Kubiak rides him hard.

Held back the last two weeks? Oh you mean the games where Slaton rushed for 156yds & a TD, and the one where he set a career high in carries (21)?Green on IR is not a good thing for Slaton. If he's not splitting carries with Green, it'll be Moats or Sapp or whoever they pick up, just like it was Taylor getting a good chunk of work the first time Green was hurt this year. Slaton's productivity and workload hasn't been affected at all by who's the #2 there. I don't think this changes Slaton's outlook at all.

That 156 and 1 touchdown game against the Colts should have been 158 yards and 3 touchdowns but due to Ahman Green's vulturing that wasn't the case. Won't have to worry about that anymore. Now it's Slaton's that gonna get all the the goal-line goodness.

hopefully this is enough for the texans to be rid of him.
FWIW, Ahman was likely gone this offseason no matter what. They restructured his deal just before the season started to where he was only getting paid on a per game basis if he was active (200K per game.) They did not restructure anything past this year which was a telling sign that he would be a cut no matter what next offseason.Look for the Texans to sign someone or draft a compliment to Slaton.

Nope. Kubiak has said all year he wants to limit Slaton's workload. It doesn't matter if it's Green or Moats or Sapp or whoever. Kubiak does not intend for Slaton to run the ball 20+ times per game so don't expect it.Anyway, Slaton has averaged more carries with Ahman Green in the lineup than with Green out. Please put the "Green hurts Slaton" talk to bed.

Trying to prep my team for the fantasy playoffs with a handcuff for Slaton. Anyone have any insight at this point on who'd get the most touches if Slaton were to go down? Too early to tell? Would it be complete RBBC? Right now I have S. Jackson, Slaton, Benson and K. Faulk so I might actually need to start someone on Houston if Slaton were to go down. :goodposting:

I agree with this for the most part, except for one thing. Slaton should see most/all the goaline carries now, which in FF obviously is huge for Slaton owners.

I have Slaton and Andre Johnson and Sunday Ticket so I have watched every Houston game this year. Ahman Green did appear to be impacting Slaton's numbers, especially later in the season. Its not just carries, its been frustrating to me that Green has been in during a lot of passing situations when Slaton could be catching screen passes and taking them for big gains. Looking at the 3 games that Ahman Green didn't play, vs. Tenn, Jax and Minn, Slaton had over 21 touches per game, at quick count it looks like he is only getting about 15 per game in the games that Green was in. Even if his workload doesn't increase, if he can get a few more carries inside the 5, that's a plus for Slaton.

The part I bolded could be valid. Slaton hasn't had a big receiving day with Green in the lineup. That said, Slaton's only had 2 big receiving days and they were both against defenses that were able to shut down the Texans' running game very well. It's not like Green is catching a lot of balls that would otherwise go to Slaton.

I know he has a proven track record, but I think at 32 there's no reason to keep Green in any dynasty leagues.

Thank you Ted Thompson for being wise and letting Ahman Green go get big money from some other team. Maybe he can be a RB coach at Texas A&M for Mike Sherman.

Slaton should see a slight upgrade with out Green, be it more carries or goaline touches. I'm going after Moats this week to backup Slaton on my roster.

Slaton only had 11 carries in that game I believe.

A lot of this has to do with Slaton's struggles in pass blocking. He's been getting Schaub and Sage killed on occasion. There was one sack in particular in this last weeks game where the announcers (Gannon and somebody else) ran the play back and diagrammed Slaton's missed assignment which resulted in the sack. Slaton really needs to work on this part of his game.
