Ahman Green / Steve Slaton (1 Viewer)

How does the surprise early bye affect Green's status. Does this give him enough time to recover (reports last week were that he was in a walking cast) He seemed to have been written off early, but does he hold on to the starting job or is this Slaton's team now? If he does hold onto his job will he be effective?

I want to believe Green still has 1 solid year left in him. He just keeps giving me reasons not to.

He looked very, very good in the 07' preseason. Then he was solid in week 1 of 07', which is when he hurt his knee & it hindered him ever since. He hasn't been healthy enough to show anything in over a year. I think the early bye bought him one last opportunity. I actually expect Houston to come out strong with 2 weeks to prepare after the azzkicking they got in Pitt.

A healthy Green would be the perfect RB for that offense, but your guess is as good as mine. I wouldn't drop him unless somebody good is out there. He has zero trade value right now, I'd hold & hope for the best.

the reason AGreen hasn't been cut (IMHO) is that he is the only NFL caliber RB on the roster and the team is hoping beyond hope that he'll regain health

the future HOU RB is not on the roster

no, not yet. in the limited carries he did get in week 1, Green looked good IMO. showed some burst and quickness. of course he was only given limited touches and the game was really out of hand.

Think he plays this week?

I'm anxious to see Slaton get a good matchup acompanied by a few games to get familiar with an increased role. I completely understand why he dropped to the 3rd round, but I think he gets dismissed too quickly by many here.

Expand on why he dropped, size? I just know he was a beast at WVU and weirder things have happened. What's the knock on him?

A few things: He had a subpar 07' season, and looked less explosive than what he showed prior. Also, when watching tape on him, you have to be somewhat concerned with the offense he worked out of at West Virginia. His size can certainly leave you w/ doubts of a featured role. Lastly, I would've liked to see him with some better lateral movement to make defenders miss for a runner of his type. Having said that, I liked the fit in Houston for his style, and am still interested in seeing it pan out before dismissing him so early.

Green was done when he was leaving GB. Mike Sherman had his loyalty to him and that is the only reason that Green got a big contract like he did.

no clue. i'm sure we'll hear more regarding his ankle soon. seems like Houston wants him to be the main guy, he just can't stay healthy enough to do so.

Ahman Green should pull an Ocho Cinco and change his middle name to fragile. If I had to make a life-or-death bet that would HAVE to happen in the first half of the NFL season, Ahman Green being injured would be near the top of that list. He's nearly 32 and apparently can't put his injury woes behind him.

The starting job is Slaton's for the taking, but you have to wonder how effective he'll be if he doesn't bust out early. They would likely go pass happy in that situation.

Since I know 95% of you don't care about my fantasy team, I've hidden the following nugget about Slaton and my team in a spoiler. For the 5% who do care, and for everyone who can't resist such things even if they don't care:

he did not practive today and list day to day. Honestly, i don't expect him to play any game that he is not fully 100%. when the texans redid his deal a couple of weeks before the season, he gets so much per game played.
