Ahman Green update (1 Viewer)

Looking for some Ahman Green updates, to decide whether to cut him today, and ran into this AP story. It's the clearest indication that - if he's cleared by Dr. Andrews - that Green likely won't be right this year. And even if rest somehow does help, they'll go with a RBBC with Dayne.

I'm in a deep league where any RB with a pulse is gone, but I feel pretty confident in cuttng him now.

Kubiak hopes the break will help Ahman Green's troublesome bruised left knee heal.

"It gives us some more time from a rehab standpoint and it'll definitely be a help," he said. "Now, are we going to battle that the rest of the year? I think we will."

They're sending the running back to Alabama this week to get a second opinion because it continues to bother him.

"We're going to find out what's really going on, why is it swelling all the time and giving me pain and discomfort?" Green said.

Houston's $23 million offseason acquisition has missed three games and played only sparingly in two others because of swelling in the knee. The Texans' running game has struggled with Green managing just 260 yards.

With Green's health uncertain, the Texans may have to rely on Ron Dayne to carry the running game down the stretch. Last season, the 1999 Heisman Trophy Winner had 429 yards rushing with five touchdowns in December.

He had 122 yards and a touchdown against the Raiders for his first 100-yard game since he had 153 against the Colts on Christmas Eve. The Texans' other back is Adimchinobi Echemandu.

"If something's wrong with Ahman, then those two will have to do it," Kubiak said. "If Ahman is ready to go, then I think Ahman and Ronnie are a good complement to each other because they're totally different runners. So regardless of how it pans out, it's going to take two of them every week."

It is his bye week.

He has been terribly disappointing as this injury has ruined his season.

The injury doesnt seem to be going away.

He saw Dr. Andrews.

He is speaking like the injury has already beat him.

Unless you have no need to pick someone up, or have a huge roster, I think he is as good on the Wire as anywhere... better than then taking up roster space. I just dropped him to pick up Davenport as FWP's handcuff, fwiw. Im sure you could use someone on your roster than has some value. I don't see any for Green (and I thought he had a great shot for a very good year)

From the Texans website:

Green’s status unchanged: During the bye week, running back Ahman Green received a second opinion on his hobbled knee from specialist Dr. James Andrews in Mobile, Ala., but the tests did not reveal any new information.

Kubiak said the team will continue to monitor Green’s status on a day-to-day basis for the rest of the year, sticking to his plan of resting of lightly practicing the back during the week.

“I think it’s positive,” Kubiak said of the test results. “We were hoping that he wouldn’t go down there and we’d find something that we didn’t know about, so I think it is what it is and it’s something that he’s going to have to fight through for the rest of this season.

“And then hopefully, the way we’re handling him and him just continuing especially taking this break right now, it helps him be there for us, because it’s obvious when he’s there for our football team we’re a lot better football team.”

And so it goes...

Looks like we'll see more of the same, Green starts the game but has to leave well before halftime. Unfortunately he only gets to play Oakland once this year.

Ahman Green - RB - Texans

Ahman Green (knee) returned to a limited practice Thursday.

Texans coach Gary Kubiak stopped far short of saying he expects Green to play against New Orleans: "He did just a little bit today...We’ll know more tomorrow." Green was expected to be limited Thursday, but the Texans are taking his injury day by day. If he doesn't work Friday, Ron Dayne will start.

Nov. 15 - 4:24 p.m. ET

I currently have 3 wasted roster spots on Texans RBs. Obviously Green is the best by far, but I wish this situation would get settled.

..When Dayne starts he breaks your heart.

What happened with Adimchinobi Echemandu???

The guy played one game, looked pretty well and got a little dinged. But I didnt hear that it was anything serious enough that Dayne would be the true #1 with Green out.

Dayne has his moments, but more often then not he just looks slow and cant make the plays when they need him too.

Even with Johnson coming back, I can't see Dayne putting up reliable stats each week.

It's too bad, I like when the guys who get shipped around break out and have a few solid games too...like Gado 2 years ago w/ Green Bay. It just makes for exciting stuff to hear about a so called "nobody" who gets a shot and literally runs away with the job.

I was asking myself the same question. Had a roster spot and picked him up as he got dropped during the Texans bye last week.WHich is to say that if Green can't go, I agree that it will not be just the Ronnie Dayne show. Echemanu had 2 weeks to heal up his hammy now, and if the Texans lose to the Saints this week, they will essentially be out of playoff contention, if they aren't already with their division. Seems the Texans don't deem to hesitate to try out new people - Domanick Davis end of 2004, and Lundy and Dayne during the middle and end of the 2006 campaign respectively.

To use my new most hated phrase of the entire Shark Pool -

It could be a sneaky play.

Not true. I'm not sure there were any better producing backs in the league last year during the critical weeks of 13 - 16 when most leagues have playoffs and superbowl. Last year's numbers for those weeks! I'd be thrilled with a repeat!Week 13 95 yards Week 14 87 yards and two TD'sWeek 15 94 yards and a TDWeek 16 153 yards and two TD's

I rode him to the championship game last year and it's lookin like he may end up being a similar play this year...

i'm in the same boat.Travis Henry is a trainwreck.Marshawn Lynch is out.I need to ride Big Daddy Dayne to another win or two in the next 3 weeks to make my playoffs.I am really hoping for a repeat (or even 75%) of last year's stretch run.:fingers crossed:
