Ahman Green (1 Viewer)

Flossy

Footballguy
Is this guy going to do anything this year? I think picking him up could quite possibly be a shark move considering Slaton is 5'8 and will hit the inevitable rookie wall at some point. Slaton isn't built to carry the ball 20+ times (he has yet to) and run between the tackles consistently. I am starting to think Ahman will get more burn and quite possibly be the starter and Slaton as the 3rd down back as the season wears on. Any thoughts?

By the time Slaton hits the proverbial rookie wall, Ahman be on injured reserve with his latest leg injury.

H.K. guaranteed recently that Ahman Green would be the guy (see sig). I don't know what else you want.

I thought Green looked good in limited work but Kubiak will split the carries at the very best for Ahman Green, IMO.

 Green had 12 carries to Slaton's 16 in his first week back.....almost half the work. Now that he has knocked the rust off, expect Green to be the feature back from this point on.

The Texans have updated their depth chart. They have Slaton as #1 and Green as #2.

 Green only seemed to come in last week because Slaton was having trouble, and seemed to serve simply as a change of pace. Slaton is the clear #1 it appears in Houston. Green is an afterthought.

SORRY Slaton owners this will be a full fledge Rbbc if AG stays healthy...... But thats a bif IF

HoustonTexans.com reports Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak he liked how RB Ahman Green looked during the team's Week 5 game. 'Ahman looked really good throughout the game. I thought he ran very, very well, and that's exciting for us as a team to know that those two right now, if Ahman is healthy, give us a heck of a one-two punch, but we've got confidence in both of them,' Kubiak said. He rushed for 47 yards on 12 carries in the game.

Not what you want to hear if your startin Slaton every week, and hardly an afterthought.

It seems obvious that Kubiak wants to limit Slaton's carries. He wants to rotate backs to a degree (witness Taylor's 8 carries to Slaton's 10 in Week 4 and Green's 12 to Slaton's 16 in Week 5). I don't think Green is any more of a threat to Slaton than Taylor is, but I do think it shows a clear pattern of trying to minimize Slaton's workload. That said, Slaton appears to be getting most of the 3rd down work (and even lining up as a receiver some) as well as all the goalline carries. I think Green would get the higher number of carries if Slaton gets hurt but not sure if he or Taylor would get goalline carries.

Depending on your league, Green may have value as a 10-12 carry guy or as a handcuff to Slaton. Given the 0-4 record of the Texans and what they have in Slaton, it would be pretty surprising if Green grew to have more value than that. I can tell you that despite being drafted, Green is no longer owned in two 12 team leagues I am in, but my 14 team league he is. For the record I own Slaton in one league and Green in none.

ahman green is showing something. at the least, he is hurting slaton's value. looks like they are pretty much splitting things and green is putting up equal or better numbers today (so far).

oh good!!! h.k. said it - that means the opposite is true. i thought for a second someone with a worthy opinion weighed in!

Seems pretty clear that Slaton's bound to have average games like this, as long as Green's cutting into his time.

I disagree with that description of the situation. It looked like full fledged RBBC last week and looked like it again this week. It looked exactly like what we expected from Kubiak from whichever his best 2 RBs were. The only way it isn't RBBC is if the 2nd RB is completely ineffective. Green has definitely not been ineffective. He's got a 4.6 yard average. He's looking good running the ball.Slaton is the guy to have, but like every other primary backup NFL RB, Green should be rostered in anything but leagues that have very few teams or tiny amount of bench space.
