With so many QBs on bye, with bad matchups, or just playing poorly, Aiden O’Connell could be an unexpected savior in fantasy football’s crucial week 14.
For those who’ve been counting on the likes of Brock Purdy, nursing a shoulder vs a stout Chicago defense, or Kirk Cousins facing his former team on the heels of arguably the worst game of his career and Michael Penix Jr. looking over his shoulder, O’Connell might actually make more sense.
O’Connell is coming off an impressive 340/2/0 performance in a tough matchup in Arrowhead stadium. This week, O’Connell finds himself on the road again, though facing a much more vulnerable defense in TB, who just allowed Bryce Young to throw for 298/1/0 plus a rushing TD.
It seems O’Connell is set up for a relatively safe floor with tremendous upside in what could be a high scoring affair. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see O’Connell make some mistakes, but I think most of us would be just fine with a 300 yard multiple TD game stat line from our QB in week 14, even if he throws a pick or two.
Jakobi Meyers is playing, Tre Tucker has been making big plays, and Brock Bowers is projected to be the overall TE1 in week 14. Admittedly, it’s a leap of faith, but I think I’ve just succeeded in convincing myself to pick up Aiden O’Connell off the scrap heap and start him in a must-win week 14 FF matchup with the division title on the line.
