AJ Green & Andy Dalton - Post Gruden (1 Viewer)

anyone worried about these 2 now that Gruden has moved on. Just got a blip that they will reduce his attempts and add "easier" passes.

Dalton finished as the 3rd best QB this year with the 8th most attempts in the league. But it's not like he can't have success with fewer attempts, and no one expects him to be a top 5 QB again anyways.

Dalton was only 15th in the NFL in passing attempts in 2012, and he still managed to be a low end QB1 with AJ having a top 3 WR season. Dalton will still be a low end starter or a fantastic backup even if they scale back his throws, and I have no doubts that AJ will still get his. Maybe it'll make him more efficient and create more scoring opportunities, too.

Green will be fine.

Dalton still blows and will continue to be a frustrating fantasy option simply because his surroundings are excellent.

Hue's on record as saying they are going to run the ball more. I still think that Green will get the lion's share of Dalton targets and to be honest I think Hue is going to get more out of this offense than Gruden. Gruden sometimes seemed to outsmart himself. Bengals fans are mostly pleased that he's gone.

I just hope they get better chemistry. Again, I have a little more faith that Hue is going to set them up to succeed together - that the designs he puts in will be less likely to lead to the frequent miscommunication of last year. It's fashionable to throw Dalton under the bus every single time but more than a couple of those picks were AJ's fault.

I think the overall offense will improve while the fantasy numbers for Dalton and Green drop slightly. Gio will be the biggest beneficiary of Hue, fantasywise.

Is there a coach in the world that doesn't say "we want to run the ball more" or "we want to be more aggressive on defense" during the offseason? It's coach speak 101. Note: I'm not saying he won't follow through, but it's what everyone says this time of year.

I think AJ is still going to be limited by Dalton's shortcomings. To be honest I don't see this team going anywhere with Dalton. He just doesn't have "it."

if they don't use the pass though to loosen the defense do they have the horses to spike the run that much? I don't think they do.

At the end of the day winning games is all that matters and if they need points they'll need to pass the ball.

I think they run block better than they pass block right now, tbh.

Gruden was addicted to the pass.

BJGE ran for 3.4 and Gio 4.1...not exactly stellar production with the pass threat they had to open up and keep teams out of the box. If you're going to go play smashmouth and take the air out of the ball it's going to make running that much tougher. I think he's addicted to the pass because that's where his best talent is.

 I'm pretty sure John Fox said he wanted to run more this year.

yup, this. hue seems to be a terrible coach for this offense. they should be airing it out all over the place with those pass catchers.

Let's see what happens. I just felt that Gruden was always cute by half and usually was poor at half-time adjustments (whereas Zimmer was generally excellent in that regard). Really won't know until games start happening :)
