Alaska hunter bags world record grizzly bear (1 Viewer)

I couldn't be happier that some hillbilly has killed the world largest grizzly bear....hazahhh for humanity!

Hate these pictures of hunters proudly posing next to their kill. Gee, you killed an unarmed animal with your semi-automatic weapon. Grats?

Really? Did he break the law in some way? I'm not seeing a problem.

thats the problem
Can you expand on that a bit? The end of the article says the grizzly population is on the rise even in the lower 48. I don't believe there is a shortage of them in Alaska.
Just bugs me when i see something thats lived long enough to get that big just to be murdered for sport by some ####### with a small **** and a big gun

FYI…the ####### with a small weenie and big gun is paying the freight for the habitat these critters live in and the salaries of the people who manage them.

Meh, I guess I don't have as much of a problem with this hunt as I do with guys that sit in tree stands over a barrel full of danishes. Yes, that's how a lot of people hunt black bears.

The guy seemed pretty humble in the short article.

For me, I just can't comprehend how someone's first thought when seeing something as cool as a huge bear like this is to kill it.

I also don't see it as a sport. There's no competition involved. Sure it takes a certain amount of skill with a gun but that's different. Put an equal amount of firepower in the hands of the animal, then call it a sport. Until then, this is nothing to be proud of.

FYI, bear hunting for people who live in and around Fairbanks Alaska, is usually for food..

Sure there are idiots out there killing for the rush of killing, and idiots killing for trophies and bragging rights, but that is not the norm in Alaska.I've been hunting and fishing in Alaska with my Brother-in-law who was born and raise there. He doesn't kill what he doesn't intend to eat (unless it's in self defends) and everything he kills gets processed for food..

I've had Bear meat, not fond of it, but it is eaten up there often.

ETA: The guys who assume that every hunter who kills an animal, is killing it for fun, are just as much idiots as the guys who kill for fun.

Yeah, bear doesn't taste good to me so I can't imagine killing one. That said, Alaskans seem to love it. I'm sure they aren't into seeing the population grow to a point they thrive in town or the rivers basically become off limits.

Legal hunting is required to control the population, and raise money to fund habitat. If hunting wasn't allowed, these same people would complain about the tax costs to shoot X number of animals each year. Seems like a win win for the hunter and the taxpayers.

But, if it makes you feel better, I will take a picture of my next kill after it runs out in front of my car and does thousands of dollars of damage. (the insurance costs should only bump your premiums a few dollars)

This hunts aren't layups (at least in BC).

A friend of mine spent quite a few years in China. He states quite emphatically that the foulest thing he ever had to eat was bear paw.

So these guys track this bear for 3 hours just to kill it?

I understand people who hunt to feed their families. Never understood why it is such a thrill to track and kill an animal to hang its head on your wall.

Whenever I hunt, I leave a second rifle out in the field. Not my fault the deer didn't arm himself.

Actually, it's impossible for most animals to arm themselves, since they only have legs.

At one time my Uncle had a bear he shot on display at Anchorage Airport. Was a record. Wasn't a grizzly though, was a Kodiak. They get quite large.
