Aldon Smith arrested for DUI (1 Viewer)

Lesson not learned even after the Cowboys tragedy last season. Shameful. The NFL has a problem with this. They offer a chauffeur service with no questions asked & still have knuckleheadso drunk driving.

Wouldn't it be easier for a team to find out where a player has been with that driving service? Maybe that's why some don't use it. I dunno, but that would make sense to me.

Then the problem is even bigger than we would think.

THEN CALL AND PAY FOR A FREAKING CAB ON YOUR OWN!!!

Sheesh. These idiots are making hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars a year and risk it because they won't pay $50 for a cab. And there are even plenty of services now that will also send someone to drive your car home for you so that if you get out and get tanked you don't have to worry about leaving behind your swank ride.

Yeah I agree, but some pro sports players have a sort sense of infallibility that makes them think they are immune to problems we all have.

they're kids. people forget how young they are. doesn't escuse it, but helps explain it.

But the NFL is a multi billion dollar empire. And even with all of the symposiums ithe has offered to try and eliminate this as an issue they have not been able to figure out how to fix this issue affecting the young men making millions of dollars while working for them.

No different than anywhere else in society...you can do all you can but the individual ultimately has to make a wise decision...they are adults...

who are kids?

smith is 23 years old, I wouldnt really consider that a kid anymore.

At some point ya need to grow up

Updating a previous item, coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters he expects Aldon Smith to play in Week 3 despite Smith's Friday morning arrest for suspicion of DUI and marijuana possession.
"I expect Aldon to be back at work and play on Sunday," said Harbaugh. The NFL will not intervene on a player's Sunday availability following a Friday arrest because the appeals process can't be expedited that quickly. The actions say it all: The 49ers care about winning over punishment, individual players' decision making, those players' well being, and the well being of the community. Smith gives San Francisco its best chance to win

nothing like a nice rotoworld jab at harbaugh and the niners

Über started in San Francisco, the guy has access to a private car service at anytime and any place in the Bay Area. No excuse for him being an idiot, my guess the pills are ecstasy.

I thought suspensions for DUIs were always something handled by the NFL versus the team.

Comcast link also brings up an old story.

Smith, who turns 24 on Wednesday, has also been named in a lawsuit by a Northern California man who said he was shot during a party at Smith's house.

Santa Clara County prosecutors have said they are considering criminal charges.

From the article:

Attorneys for Smith and Walker, 29, who currently plays for the Tennessee Titans, have said Esporlas ``freely and voluntarily exposed himself to all risks of harm'' by attending the party.
Better Call Saul!

Kids legally are adults at 18. Aldon Smith is supposedly is a professional at age 23.

Hence the term "man child"...

Plenty of them in sports. Choices are made by freewill. You can't just call someone a kid who represents a sports franchise "just a kid" when they make a bad choice because there is a lot at stake as far as investment from that franchise.

So the players at the same age of 23 who chose wisely opposed to those who chose wrongly have a difference.

Ugh...those of us in the Bay Area have always known this guy is a ticking time bomb. A damned good one though!

Regarding the weed...that's likely more of a problem with the NFL than with the authorities. Don't know about the pills though.

Oh...mad sweeney: You're funny when you're not trolling!

Harbaugh : PED users are cheaters, let's trade for one, twice.

Harbaugh: We have to be above reproach in everything we do. Meh, if he's in trouble again, the NFL will have to do it.

@RapSheet: Why did #49ers suspend DeMarcus Dobbs in similar situation not Aldon? Dobbs missed team meetings & the bus. Suspended for football reasons
