All signs point to the Alex Barron-Bobby Carpenter trade being finalized Monday. Barron has signed his one-year tender as a restricted free agent, a necessary step to making the trade with the Dallas Cowboys.

In addition, league sources have told the Post-Dispatch that Carpenter, the Dallas linebacker, will arrive in St. Louis on Sunday evening. Similarly, Barron is flying to Dallas on Sunday.

Once both players take and pass physicals Monday, the trade will be complete with Carpenter officially joining the Rams and Barron becoming a Cowboy.

The Rams are going to receive a 5th rounder in the 2011 draft also. Pretty good deal for both teams. Barron is a very good blocker and needs to be motivated. Carpenter should do well as a SLB in a 4-3. Ths is a win-win deal for both teams.

 Both players need a change of scenery and I'm sure both teams won't miss their respective players. As a Rams fan, I'm looking forward to the all-Ohio State LB corps the Rams will have next season (Bobby Carpenter, James Lauranitis, and Na'il Diggs)!

Carp just isnt very good. he's OK in pass coverage, but gets blown out/cant shed blockers on runs. he just isnt physical enough to be a solid NFL LB.

maybe he'll get better with his change of scenery, but i wouldnt hold my breath.

With Barron you can expect plenty of false start penalties.

Yup. But, he anchored a stellar line that never allowed a glove to be laid on Bulger, so the Cowboys have got that going for them, which is nice.

'Factoid of the Week That May Interest Only Me

One of the reasons I've never been an Alex Barron fan -- only his accountant should be partisan to the former first-round tackle of the Rams who's about to be dealt to Dallas -- is his attention to detail, and his fervor to be great. It's just not there. This illustrates it best: 43 false-start penalties in five seasons. Ridiculous. ' endquote

'2. I think neither side should be expecting much -- and neither side is -- from the straight-up trade of Dallas linebacker Bobby Carpenter for St. Louis tackle Alex Barron. Carpenter does fit better as an outside 'backer next to James Laurinaitis in the Rams' 4-3 than he ever fit in the 3-4, but he had enough chances to make plays in Dallas that he's likely no more than a stopgap guy for St. Louis. Barron, a first-round pick by the Rams in 2005, has been a disappointment his entire pro career. His work ethic was never good. Maybe it's changing now that he's staring his football mortality in the face, but I doubt it.' endquote.

Barron also led the NFL in holding penalties.

I prefer Carpenter here because he hasn't played a whole lot. At least there's a chance he didn't get enough reps or experience.

The Rams probably did get the better end of this deal. They get a starter. Dallas gets a reserve. But it works for both sides because they took areas of excess and got back areas of need.

i kinda gotta disagree with your take on B Carp.i've seen enough reps to know he cant shed a blocker. yea, maybe 4-3 will help him (more linemen to take up blockers) but he's been around long enough to prove he just isnt very good.at best he's decent on 3rd downs and ST's. usually when he makes a tackle it's cause he got blocked into the path of the ball carrier.i figured he'd get cut sooner or later. he woulda been sooner, but he was a 1st rounder. so, Dallas gets a project, possible dud o-lineman. oh well, they need depth on the O-line. i say no-brainer for Dallas

Not trying to wear my homer glasses here, and I admit the only Rams game I have seen in recent years is when they played the Cowboys, but I imagine the rest of the Rams O-line sucking couldn't have helped Mr. Barron's cause. I also imagine the Rams coaching was sub-par as well.
