Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Thread (1 Viewer)

You people??
As a general matter, it’s the Republican side of the aisle that refuses to tighten the sort of ethical rules that would prevent this sort of behavior.  It’s also the Republican side of the aisle that seems to be pushing these stories about Omar and Waters.*. That’s what I meant by “you people.”  I’m sorry if I lumped anyone in with a group they don’t associate with.

*I’m not saying this to suggest that everything is cool here.  I think stuff like what Omar and Waters are being criticized for should be made illegal.  And I think less of both of them for engaging in these kinds of practices.  I really like Omar’s stances on a lot of issues so it’s disappointing to me.

But, count me in as someone who would love to see AOC in the senate.  (I assume Pelosi would like that also).

I am assuming there is a sauna in the senate building where all the old white dudes go and sweat out the stress - so it humorous imaging AOC walking in on that talking about the Green New Deal, or anything else that pops up.

It would make a lot of sense for her and democrats i think.

She is 31. Rule is resident at time of election. So just move before appt.

I think she would easily be reelected.

I don't think Residency is simply moving.

I assume it is like domicile, where you have to take affirmative steps to show an intention to remain indefinitely.

Buy a house. Piece of cake. Go halfsies with Omar and then they can sunset feinstein and make the ultimate GOP nightmare.

I'll happily vote for her if she challenges Schumer or Gillibrand... especially Schumer.

She and Nan can chum it up about the Green Dream or whatever

Agreed.  And of course AOC is opposed to such a tax.
Yes, but why was there such opposition to a carbon tax 10 years ago?  That's very aggravating for me.  Conservatives sometimes come around to the stances I hold, but it takes them forever.  Watch for the GOP to start hammering economic inequalities in the next 10 years as their core constituency drops down the socio-economic scale.

Yes, that's a big part of what conservatism is all about, risk avoidance, measured change when necessary. We need that. Every crazy idea we liberals push isn't necessarily good.

The GOP love her because they mock her, below is a thread on a Texas fishing site I visit, but it is just one of many examples.

I think it is the moderates like myself that are more worried. I do not want the democrats to go further left and even if they do not go further left I do not want someone extremely vocal to push the republicans further right.

The fact that she has a 200 page thread on a message board is concerning.

God forbid the Dems move further left.  They might approach Milhouse territory.

Not really when you consider that the 200 pages are only comprised of about 25 people in total.  When you look at the PSF in general.  There might be 500 pages on as topic, but when you dive in 200 pages might be by a total of only 2-3 people. There are some people here that average 60-75 posts a day every day.

She's only 31 and I'm not sure why you're expecting better from a woman in a thread created to denigrate her.
Why did you need to add this part?  Why so outraged?

How do you feel about the other 6000 threads created to denigrate conservatives?  Can you link me to a post where you came in defending them like you're doing here with AOC?

AOC isn't dangerous at all.  She's already reached the peak of her political career -- she probably can't win a statewide election in NY, and she would be a novelty candidate if she ran for president, in the mold of Ron Paul or Dennis Kucinich.  Her most likely professional trajectory is that she serves 40+ years in the house as a more visible and slightly more off-kilter version of Maxine Waters.
Ignoring radicals is foolish, IMO.  we've already seen them invade the public sector and education.

Now we have an entire generation of brainwashed youth and it's only going to get worse.

My personal opinion is that I don't really care if 1000 politicians are at the head of the line to get vaccinated.

There are, at least, 100,000,000+ people in front of me in terms of priority.  1000 politicians are not going to make a difference to me (or really anyone) in terms of the timing of getting a vaccination.

If seeing these public figures get the vaccine helps persuade more people to get the vaccine, we are all safer.

(This is not to say that all the politicians/people who discounted Covid as fake, or a hoax, should not be mercilessly ridiculed for rushing to get a vaccine now - but I am not going to be outraged over it).

This.  Especially Republicans as that side is less likely to buy in unless those in charge do.

Lol at "outraged".  Just pointing out facts.

If you think I'm going to chomp on the stinky bait you're tossing overboard, you've got the wrong fish.

Oh stop.  The fired administration left behind a head of education whose top qualification was marrying the head of AMWAY.  You don't get to lecture on what's best for educating our youth.

Yeah, I don't see these guys sniveling about young buck Marco Rubio getting the vaccine.  Nor should they.   They NEED their leaders to step up in the void created by the fired guy's incompetence.

Everytime someone calls these nincompoops "leaders" I cringe. Seriously.  What a gross concept.

RUBIO, Marco, a Senator from Florida; born in Miami, Fla., May 28, 1971; graduated University of Florida, B.S., 1993; graduated University of Miami, J.D., 1996; lawyer; West Miami City Commission 1998-2000; member of the Florida house of representatives 2000-2008; majority leader 2003-2006; speaker 2006-2008; elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in 2010; reelected in 2016 for the term ending January 3, 2023; chair, Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship (One Hundred Sixteenth Congress); was an unsuccessful candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016.
The word "leader" was literally in his title, sport.  If these sorts of things upset you, maybe take a few plays off?

Well I appreciate the advice.  But I don't view those guys as my leader, regardless of what their "title" says.  If you are only emboldened to titles, well I feel sorry for you.

Bill Belichick is NOT my coach, but I have no problem referring to him as one since, you know, that's his title.  Seems like a really odd stance to take.

Also, I think you mean "beholden" and not "emboldened".   Like I said, I think you should take a few plays off from the internet.

Hey you refer to people however you like...I didn't judge your position, unlike you have done with mine.

I was just telling you that calling elected representatives "leaders" is barf inducing.

I have already had the discussion many times on this board how liberals seem to have a stronger need to be led by elected officials than non liberals.  So no need to do that again.  I am not judging it, just pointing out a fact.

Speaking of "stinky bait".  Let me know when you want to stop lecturing on who gets to do what so we can have  a real conversation.  No way are you on any high ground (or any ground at all, for that matter) to be talking about qualifications or lecturing.

Telling me to stop lecturing after you lectured me is......something:lmao:

I don't think you know what the definition of "lecturing" means.

I simply asked you some questions which you refused to answer.  I get it, but avoiding the tough questions doesn't make them go away.

Anyway, since you're insisting on plowing thru with an agenda we can just leave it be.

I'm sorry, I'm not beholden to some fancy dictionary definition.  I'm led by different definitions, man.

I agree. Leaders are defined by there actions and not their title. Being an elected representative does not make someone a leader.
100% NOT the position of many here.  They NEED their elected representatives to lead them.   It is important to them.

I prefer to require my elected reps to do what I want..not lead me.

You must have missed the part where the General pointed out it was in HIS TITLE!!!!

Interesting.

Let me ask you this:  What changed between Dec. 7th (where you called President Barack Obama 'the party's former leader") and today where you feign disgust over the  term being used for elected politicians?  I'll hang up and listen.....

Well..Considering the party's former leader, President Obama, called them out on it and had major Democrats like Omar discredit his statements, yeah, there seems to be a very strong push for this in the Democratic party.
