Crumpler understands: Tight end Alge Crumpler's two-year contract expires at the end of the 2009 season. With third-round pick Jared Cook, the position looks crowded. Bo Scaife recently signed his franchise tender and Craig Stevens, a blocking tight end, is back for his second season.

"It's good for the team," said Crumpler, who added that he wants to return in 2010 and plans to mentor Cook, who in the offseason also lives in Atlanta. "I had an understanding that they were probably going to bring a guy in, knowing that this is my last year under contract, and Bo didn't have a long-term contract."

In general, the mentor angle is overstated. Several former players have come out and said you make quotes like "I'm all about the team" for the PR. In the real world, why would you want to teach someone younger and cheaper everything you know about the game, so you can be a FA sitting at home making nothing next season?

Rumor is that he wants to become a coach. If this is true then he would want to teach someone younger, maybe impress Fisher, and get offered a job as an assistant. Of course this is all hearsay.

Could be, I was going off the original quote where he said he wants to come back to the Titans in 2010. Just assumed he was talking about as a player

Alge says the right thing all the time, seems like a good egg

yeah, we were discussing this in the draft thread.

"When your QB is being investigated for Gambling and dog fighting by a federal prosecutor- Get traded ASAP."

Jared Cook is listed as 246 lbs now. With Alge's mentoring, Jared should be able to push 300 by the end of the season.

hah man the guy looked huge in the HoF game.
read an article today about alge - apparently he won't say what his weight is right now, but that he had intentionally added some weight because his role in the offense has changed from pass catching TE to blocking TE.
