Alien: Earth on FX (1 Viewer)

Ministry of Pain

This is not like other TV shows and I believe the timeline on this one is like 2 years prior to the '79 original
This show has curveballs and I can see why some folks maybe didn't make it past the first couple episodes although i thought they were good

-I don't want to spoil anything but they close every episode with a pretty killer Rock song. Episode 5 featured The Smashing Pumpkins
Lot of actors in this that I'm not familiar with although I have not been watching new movies and skip a lot of the popular TV Shows. I do recognize Tim Olyphant
It's hard for me to find new shows and movies but this one is pure science fiction, good special effects

You might need to re-watch certain scenes if they briefly don't make sense, usually things tie together by the end of the episodes
I think this show is well made, Noah Hawley who helped create Fargo is the guy in charge of all this.
Gen X should give this a try

Show is killing it, so good. And I’m not even that into the Alien universe. Like every gen-x’er I’ve seen Alien and Aliens but not huge into it. This show has hooked me though. Oh, and the music is awesome too.

Episode 5 was great and the latest one amped up the tension. It was ok early on but has improved.
Not a fan of the dopey rich genius though.

Dumb.
It's like the gummy bears commercials with the child brains in adult bodies.

"I like the green one because it's squishy"

I do like the interaction between the AI and the Cyborg. But every time they go to the child brains it ruins it.

And nice work AI, leave the child brain in charge of feeding the monsters. What could go wrong? LOL

Don’t think we are supposed to be. (Or any of “the 5” is my guess)
I get that he's not supposed to be likeable, I just think it's a dumb character for the show.
Only 2 episodes left. Curious how they'll end the season.
Someone in Hollywood thinks that is the cool stereotype for tech genius billionaire. Mountain head the hbo movie was some of the worst garbage I’ve ever seen.

I wonder if he's maybe the prototype to the hybrids and, in fact, is a boy genius in a mech body?
Interesting. But if so, who made him?
We do know he was the youngest trillionaire on the planet. My guess is that he was terminally ill and he was the OG child to be transferred into the hybrid shell. The island is Neverland. The other hybrids are the Lost Boys. One of the main characters is Wendy. All we have remaining to find is Peter Pan, who kidnapped the Lost Boys so that he wouldn't be alone in Neverland. Sound similar?

I'll keep watching, but I think the verdict is still out.
Very fair criticism, they've built it in a way that could be very unsatisfying depending on how they finish off this 1st season
I don't launch many movie/TV threads these days but with the soundtrack I kept hearing my wife rewind and replay i thought I better jump in this one with her

Is it perfect? Probably not. There are a few things that have happened that seem inexplicable right now, but we'll see how it comes together.

I found it to be wildly entertaining. I just rewatched episode 6. I've never rewatched an episode of television that quickly.
Suspension of disbelief is important for this one, it's Sci-Fi and I just let it go sometimes. Still a lot to absorb

-If you watch the show you likely see the commercials for the new Tron movie with Leto coming out, kinda similar audiences
I'm not sure the Gen Z folks like this show or want to see the new Tron movie but that's just my opinion

There’s also some idiotic decisions being made by characters - but it’s a decent entertaining watch.

Idiotic decisions are what drive the horror/scifi genre and I'm not too sure they are out of character for the general population. Think about the decisions made at Chernobyl by supposedly highly trained individuals.

If the feeding slot got jammed, I sure would not enter an enclosed room to feed alien bugs, and if I did I surely wouldn’t let the door close behind me - whether I knew it would lock or not.
Then the next guy feels like he needs to drag the clearly dead body out of the enclosure with no real backup - so that the alien bugs can get out.

Stuff like that is what I’m talking about. It doesn’t ruin the show for me but it’s lazy writing. No one is that dumb - especially when some healthy fear should be in place.

These are easily acceptable given Tootles is a child in an adult body. He declined Curly's help in order to monopolize Kirsh's attention. That's childlike behavior and it cost him. If he'd accepted Curly's offer, none of this would have happened (but it would have been a pretty boring episode).

I can't fault Arther for trying to pull Tootles out of the enclosure either. He seems to have real feelings for the hybrids (as evidenced by his treatment of Slightly and Smee on the beach when he realized they were lying to him). He may also have thought he could fix him and didn't want to see further damage to the body.

It's the decisions by the adults in charge that are really the crux of dumb writing.
Why weren't there any armed guards in the containment lab?
Why in the world would Boy Kavalier want to put T. Ocellus in a better vessel? He must really want that conversation with someone as smart as him (probably smarter).

BTW, I think Boy Kavalier is planning on putting T. Ocellus in Tootles, but that's just a guess

He must really want that conversation with someone as smart as him (probably smarter).

This is clearly it, he laid it out in an earlier episode.

Hubris is his defining quality and is what is driving these exceptionally poor decisions. It’s also why I don’t find the decisions being made as unrealistic, we the same egotistical type decisions being made every day played out in real time. Narcissistic arrogance, power and money are a bad combination in human beings

Although he does draw some inspiration from the stereotype of the tech genius billionare, the show runner specifically had the actor look at the godlike boy in the Twilight Zone episode "It's A Good Life".

I don't know if it has enough meat on the bone to go more than two seasons. They are still sort of landlocked with the lore of all the movies that come after them (Alien/Romulus/Aliens). If Weyland Yutani had access to the xenomorph; they wouldn't have a real need to take Ripley off course in Alien or even send the colonists to LV-426.

There's enough there for one more season on the island...but if they want to go three seasons; I'd almost wager that the second season will be a prequel; where we see how the crew obtained the specimuns. In the first episode the main engineer mentioned how many people were killed trying to get them. Plus, it would give us more info in the breakout star of the show....the Opticpus.

3 episodes in. I like it but don't love it. So far it's a character issue. The only characters I like are the cyborg and Wendy. The other "kids" are just annoying.

Opening of episode 1 has the 3 types of non-human technologies competing for galaxy dominance. We've only seen 2 companies taking aim at each other so far. Guessing the 3rd comes into play in season 2.

I like the world they've built, pretty immersive if you want to shut off devices while watching.

Billion dollar ventilation in the ship for all the smokers - and the amount of cigarette's that needed to be on board for a 65 year mission for the chain smokers. Quite the budget and space needed.

I'm having a hard time remembering what the 5th specimen was: face-hugger, eyetopus, flies, necksuckers, and ___?
They can't get off the island or there would be lore about them existing in the movies, or they can just break the lore, whatever. LOL but dumb, if the final of the show has a predator take down the loose xenomorph to tie in predator 2's Los Angeles space ship.

Brother should have died lots of times already. Not a fan of the xeno's always hesitating on 1 person only. Or that someone behind them can say 'hey' and they forget about him. One tail whip and it's done. Dumb.

Not a fan of too many kiddo brains and that the security teams can just get to an island undiscovered. I get it that the children have to be enough to move the story along. Security that was supposedly beefed up seems to be pretty thin in all regards. A dock full of the space marines from Prodigy's search and rescue seems excessive.

Thousands dying in the city spacecraft crash and it's just a footnote in the plot. The search and rescue team would still be there looking for bodies. And only 1 medic for thousands - and he leaves? It's Prodigy's city not some other random location. Nope.

But... enjoying it for the creatures and would watch a second season.

flora/fauna thing?

Absolutely love the show.

Huge Alien Universe fan.

This has one more season left IMO. Two seasons will be the perfect length leading up to the Nostromo.

Very well done, great soundtrack, great characters. Big time win for long time Alien fans.

It's also strange that Morrow, the cyborg looks so much like Parker from the first movie. At first until they revealed he's a cyborg, I thought it was him and he was just assigned to this ship. Was half expecting to hear him ***** about his bonus in the first episode.

Loved the last episode. Overall it's checking all the boxes i need for a show like this. It's just great scifi and feels like it fits right into the Alien universe.

Am i the only one who didnt realize Timothy Olyphant was a synthetic until episode 6

I think i knew around episode 2.

the casting is great. just one example but the guy they got to play the ahole genius boy is perfect. looking forward to his eventual demise. that scene where hes meeting the other company head and has his bare feet on the conference table is such a hilarious ahole move
I'm with you. I'm loving hating that guy. The actor is doing a good job with the character imo.

Holy crap, episode 6 was pure chaos and I'm loving it. I need to know Kirsh's motivation for, well, just about everything.
I think his motivation is purely curiosity from a more scientific view; he's the Spock of Neverland, imo. And his loyalty is to Boy Wonder by what I assume is programming.

As an 80's kid and huge Alien franchise fan, was pretty excited by this. 1st episode was kinda rough. Took me a few watches to get through it. 4 episodes in and it's pretty good. I have some questions that hopefully get answered. Major one is I'm kinda confused at the timeline here. I think it's two years before Alien, right? Not understanding that there are xenomorphs on Earth two years before the Alien movie. Unless I missed something in all the Alien movies or not understanding what is going in in this one. Could've sworn Ripley's entire mission was to prevent the xenomorphs from ever reaching Earth, even offing herself in 3 to prevent it. I'm sure this will get explained cuz it's a pretty huge plot hole IMO.

Not a huge fan of the Lost Boys Synth thing so far, but it is nice to have a new storyline. Good effects, good looking and fun nostalgia. Also pretty great to have Metallica, Dio/Sabbath, Tool and Jane's tunes. Definitely made for GenX'ers.
