ARE YOU HAPPY THAT WE HAVE NO NFL PRIMETIME ANYMORE???????Now we have some lame, "Football Night in America" that has all the feel of Olympic Figure Skating coverage. Lame.![]()
Just paid attention to the quick intro back to the game. Wow, you nailed it. It's just like the 2am Olympic coverage. Boring...ARE YOU HAPPY THAT WE HAVE NO NFL PRIMETIME ANYMORE???????Now we have some lame, "Football Night in America" that has all the feel of Olympic Figure Skating coverage. Lame.![]()

I'm not agreeing, but at least you saw soem highlights. Now, you get about 2 plays from each game. It blows...berman sucks yo.a broadcasting pioneer for sure, but his schtick is way old and the guy just isn't funny or entertaining.
It hasn't been axed but I believe they can't show it before the Sunday night game. It was some sort of agreement when they got Monday Night Football. Prime time airs at 3 PM on Monday in Phoenix.SHEESH!If ESPN wanted to axe something, how about Kornholio & the 2 buttheads on MNF?
If you want the highlights today, you either have to watch oat-bran blad Football in America, or wait until sometime after the cows come home to see them on NFL Network. ESPN shows their highlights during the 11 PM Sportscenter as "The Blitz" IIRC which is rebroadcast Monday morning.Tomorrow is when the Primetime would be on.Isn't ESPN's primetime now on before the MNF pre-game?
I believe so but I'm not entirely sure because I'm commuting home from work when it's on, more often than not.Isn't ESPN's primetime now on before the MNF pre-game?
and i think you could add michael "powder" irvin to those mentioned above.Yeah because my criticism of Chris "Staypuft" Berman and Tom "Rochester" Jackson caused the death of NFL Primetime.I still think both of them are tools.
This is also a good description of the halftime show on Sunday nights. BOB COSTAS? Get that sissy boy off of my football show. That guy is HORRIBLE!{Syrus} said:ARE YOU HAPPY THAT WE HAVE NO NFL PRIMETIME ANYMORE???????

WTF are you looking for? I thought ESPN had good highlights with good commentary, except for the occassional annoying sound from Berman.Other than something being produced by Brewdude for Brewdude, I can't imagine what was missing last year.espn guys aren't always great - but they are better than the rest by a lot....
This has to be the consensus. I can't imagine many people who like football like that crap. It can't last long.Okay, the music going into commercials is the same crap. I keep expecting to see curling highlights when the music plays.to this year's programming.
Costas is essentially sports' version of Charlie Rose. He's the guy you want doing a serious, in-depth studio interview of someone. He's not a guy, however, who is in any way cut out for doing weekly highlights, which was ESPN's schtick. Say what you will about guys like Stuart Scott, but they bring energy to doing highlights. That's what's needed, not the softly lit and overly somber NBC stuff that we're stuck with this year.Chris Berman was a great ambassador for the NFL. He brought energy and excitement while still holding an aura of command about him. I can't believe he's hardly affiliated with NFL weekends anymore. Costas is professional but like most of his type has zero energy. This is sports! Not some news program! Have fun!
Um, no. This response doesn't show much of an understanding of the current TV landscape.Part of the reason that Networks pay "billions with a 'b' " for the rights to show NFL games is that they know that they can make money hand-over-fist with pre-game shows. Unlike the games themselves, these shows cost very very little to produce, but get lots of eyeballs. As part of the new TV contract, NBC negotiationed to have exclusive rights to such a highlights show in that timeslot. That's why Primetime is dead. This is very similar to the videogame rights with Madden Football. Even if a release of Madden flat out stunk, its the only game in town. So the bottom line here is that awful or not, NBC's show is making them a ton of money (or should I say offseting all the money they're bleeding on showing the actual games). They wouldn't pull the plug on this show in a million years. Would they retool it? Sure, they would if they thought they could make more money. But the bottom line is: this show isn't going away and no competitor (by contract) can step up and challenge them.I'd been out of town the first two weekends of the season, so I hadn't seen the show until tonight. I expected the worst from it. While bad, it wasn't as nearly as bad as I thought it be. That being said, it pales in comparison. My complains:- You're there to show highlights and provide analysis. To recap the day. Beyond that is fluff that no one wants. - Referring to the previous bullet, I don't want to see interviews with anyone from earlier in the day.- I certainlly don't want to see weather reports for the Sunday night game.- In the end, some games end up with almost no highlights due to the previous two points.- I know that some folks don't like Berman/Jackson because "their schtick gets old", (though I disagree). But the bottom line is that Berman/Jackson were really into the highlights. Their love of the game was expressed throughout the broadcast. The "Football night in america" crew generally presents the highlights very matter of factly. That entusiam is sorely missed.- You can't beat the NFL Primetime music. Its sorely lacking. In the end, NBC bought a monopoly. Like all monopolies, the consumer (read: viewer) ends up with the short end of the stick. The standard advice is "if you don't like it don't watch", but the problem is, there is nothing else to watch. Let's hope the show improves, because we're all stuck with "football night in america" until the next TV contract is negotiated.Skipjacks said:This show won't last. Agreed.Just because Football Night in America sucks doesn't mean that Berman and TJ don't suck. There is plenty of suck to go around when it comes to NFL talking heads.
He may not be the most entertaining guy but Collinsworth knows his #####.... And he also does not participate in the new trend of shouting your opinion as loud as possible...I would definitely take him over most....my man otis said:yeah, cris collinsworth isn't entertaining. he's as riveting as a rubber band.

I think Madden has gotten MUCH better over the past few years. I used to hate him, but compared to most of the duos he is one of the best. He no longer rambles about total BS, like a church steeple in the distance being a rocket ship. And I think he has the funniest line of the year, so far."Bill Bellichek is loving this. It gives him time to stratch out that neck on his sweatshirt."Madden needs to retire too.. man he is boring. Put Berman in the booth with Madden and Michaels! Berman could whooop and Madden will be talking about some NFT while Michaels slowly dies from indegestion.

This is the exact opposite of a good idea.Put Berman in the booth with Madden and Michaels!
Some blame needs to be placed on ESPN for hiring Michael Irvin, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Salisbury (to name a few).{Syrus} said:ARE YOU HAPPY THAT WE HAVE NO NFL PRIMETIME ANYMORE???????Now we have some lame, "Football Night in America" that has all the feel of Olympic Figure Skating coverage. you can find Paul Maguire ruining ABC's 2:30 CDT Saturday afternoon football game now.In fact there are very few announcers I can't stand. Like McGuire. And even him I sorta miss.
Agreed. I think being teamed with Al Michaels has created a mutually beneficial relationship. Michaels doesn't feel the need to one-up anyone because Madden clearly doesn't let his ego interfere, and Madden seems to have refocused himself on offering good analysis first and only inserting funny comments when appropriate.I think Madden has gotten MUCH better over the past few years.
