Hello Everyone,

My fiancé and I are getting married in November, and I want to buy her and her bridemaids

a very nice bottle of tequila that they can enjoy.

It would be for "shots" and for sipping.

I do not drink, so I can not taste test the various offerings that are out there.

I am looking for something that goes down very smooth, and has no "bite".

I am looking to spend $125-$150 for a fifth, possibly more if it is good tequila.

Thanks

Chris

Does the bolded belie your age? It's been a while since I've heard that term used. Do people still buy a fifth or is it all metric now?

The last time I drank, about 20 years ago, that was the term used.

I do not drink, because if I did, I would do stupid things, like end up in jail constantly, get fired from work, etc.

That's weird, upon closer examination, the subject header cut off the maids, in bridesmaids.

Patrón is really good.
this is really, really good
no and no!

Gawd Patron is flat gak compared to nicely crafted tequilas, pure marketing.

Is the point to give this to them for her bachelorette party?

If so, please update this when your test results come back.

sounds like you have an allergy to alcohol that made you breakout in places.

Interestingly, 750ml is almost exactly a fifth of a gallon... down to the thousandths digit, anyhow.

There are some great recommendations in this thread already from the Clase Azul to the Tapatio to anything El Tesoro. I would give them a bottle of a reposado aged tequila so that there's not too much barrel in it because some girls don't like that but some aging does smooth it out and gives it more character. I'm just afraid that an anejo or especially an extra anejo could have too much character for some girls who don't drink a lot of tequila. Since you live in Southern California you are luckier than most as you have the best selection to choose from in your liquor stores. Here's a list of some of the best liquor stores for tequila in California. http://www.tequila.net/advanced-store-search/tag/thestate/california/?order=editor_rating

Here's a hard to find (for me) tequila that I've only had few times but that knocked my socks off and comes in a classy bottle. Price and quality are mutually exclusive where it comes to tequila.

Let us know what bottles you picked out, your experience and how the girls liked them.

enjoy

Im a tequila drinker, but I usually just stick with Patron... Like to try this, is it worth the price tag?
Honestly not trying to be snobby about this but for the same price there's dozens of better choices than Patron (and Don Julio). Being a little snobby, I want to pick up tons of roasted agave, some heavy minerality and very little sweetness in a premium tequila. Casa Dragones is probably a little over priced as it can be matched cheaper, but it is awesome juice.

I mainly drink at bars, not much in the house. For the most part, tequila selections are usually very limited.

Wouldn't mind getting a nice bottle for the house though.

I chose El Tesoro Paradiso specifically for female drinkers. It's not hot on the finish and a little sweeter than most. Anejo nonetheless. I've sat with Carlos at La Altena in Jalisco and drank some of his Tapatio reserves. Incredible experience. A donkey pulls the tahona (big stone wheel) to crush the roasted agave.

Understood. Get the CD if the price doesn't bother you. You won't regret it.

What's comparable for cheaper?

That would be a memorable experience. There are a lot of tequila afficianado's that swear by the tahona and believe they can tell the difference. I'm not enough of an expert to know. I haven't tried the Paradiso but the garden variety El Tesoro's are excellent. I've had the Tapatio blanco and it's great juice and cheap. Another good one is the Fortaleza/ Los Abuelos

You my brother. I was just about to post about Fortaleza. I visited that distillery on the same trip. Great history here of that remnant of the Sauza family that did not sell out and returned to 100 year old methods. Fantasycurse42, you cannot go wrong here. I think "wet cement" is the tasting note delivered by some tahonas. I know it when I taste it, and I love it. Siete Leguas another practitioner of the old ways, and the original maker of Patron when it was great stuff in the ealry 90s.

This brand is killing it lately in competitions for whatever that is worth. I've had the blanco and extra anejo, both great, prefer the blanco for half the price, but over the years I've grown to prefer the clear stuff for reasons bjabrad recommended a reposado, it tastes more like the main ingredient and less like the barrel.

If these broads are not tequila experts then I would just get them a handle of Patron. Tequila amateurs (myself included) are not going to notice the intricate details of the more expensive bottles and they will most likely being using training wheels (salt and lime/lemon) which will spoil the taste of the high end options anyways. Also, right or wrong, the Patron name carries more weight with rookies/women than any other label.

If this is for the wedding and not a bachelorette then go with a fifth instead of a handle. If this is for a bachelorette party then go with the larger bottle and be sure to post updates and pics here after the fact.

Good thread topic btw, I will be looking into some of the recommendations for myself. I have been drinking bourbon for years and meaning to branch out into tequila. Do you guys drink your tequila on the rocks or neat/chilled?
