Career numbers;Jim Brown - 104.3 yards per game. 5.2 yards per carry.Emmitt Smith - 84.2 yards per game. 4.2 yards per carry.Doesn't look good for Emmitt.
Oh then that would mean Jim has more rushing yards than emmitt?? Whats that you say..He doesnt?? I'd say it looks damn good for emmit since he has more rushing yards than anyone else. Thanks for playing tho, please come again.Longevity is a very nice trait to have as a NFL RB.
It's not like Brown only played 4 seasons and put up those numbers. He has over a 5 yard per carry average over a 9 year career.Meanwhile Emmitt has averaged 5 yards per carry only once in his career.

Must be a lot of young guys posting here.If anyone has ever seen Jim Brown play there would be no question who you would want.
I'll admit, I was torn between Brown and Payton. I voted for Payton but it took me a long time to think through it.As we stand at 10:13 MST, we have had 180 votes. Here are the standings:

Walter Payton 57	32%Barry Sanders 43	24%Jim Brown 38	21%Emmitt Smith 11	6%Bo Jackson 9	5%Other (Specify) 8	4%Earl Campbell 7	4%O.J. Simpson 4	2%Gayle Sayers 2	1%Marhsall Faulk 1	1%
Certainly not a landslide for Payton yet, but a nice compliment nonetheless from an above average group of football minds.

While he may not be the very best of all time - his name certainly belongs in the poll ahead of many of the others - like Gale Sayers,Earl Campbell and Bo he was injured to soon to tell - but the first four years aren't bad - Certainly better than OJ and Faulk - and a Super Bowl MVP to boot!Year G GS Att Yards Avg Lg TD1995 14 14 237 1117 4.7 60 71996 16 16 345 1538 4.5 71 131997 15 15 369 1750 4.7 50 151998 16 16 392 2008 5.1 70 211999 4 4 67 211 3.1 26 22000 5 4 78 282 3.6 24 22001 8 8 167 701 4.2 57 0TOTAL 78 77 1655 7607 4.6 71 60

say what you want about payton and sanders and whatever but no way is terrell davis better than faulk. the system made td. faulk made the system. that's the difference.

For the Emmitt fans, who's the all-time leader in yards from scrimage at the RB position? Answer that and you will have the correct answer to the best all around back.

Of course Earl because he's my hero. Alot of great backs, can't argue against Payton or Sanders but watching Earl of the years he was the most amazing Rb ever. He was a victim to his own style of running he punnished himself as much as he punished the def. He cut 3-4 years off his career because of it. Still the greatest in my book.

earl cambell seems like the type of running back i would have really enjoyed watching play. is jamal lewis like him? he's a pretty punishing runner but probably not nearly at the level of luv ya blue.

The Tyler Rose was the most fun to watch of any RB I've ever seen. Earl could run at top speed while running over a defender with two more hanging off him. It was really unbelievable. Realistically, I think Jim Brown is the answer to this poll, but I had to vote for Earl.

gotta be sweetness. never will we see a more complete RB than Payton. most tenacious blocking RB ive ever seen, was a great receiver, and of course an amazing runner. not only could he break the long run but he also had phenomenal power. and he was a great goalline back. for most of his career he didnt have a good Oline, but still consistently put up awesome numbers.if i could only have one back for one game, id want the guy who could do everything better than anyone.

Its Emmitt Smith hands down. Yes he had a great OL. But he could also catch, block, be a team leader, power, speed, make people miss, didnt fumble, and he played hurt. (For you doubters about his speed, ask Barry fans how many times Barry got caught from behind!) Just thought about this....Have any of you ever seen him get penilized for a bonehead mistake or jump offsides? To be honest i cant think of any.And my number one reason... What is the object of football? To score touchdowns... what RB has more? And I honestly think if Marcus Allen didnt get his carear dicked by Al Davis we would all be tal;king about him.
