3 years ago finished 2nd, last two years took first running away from the pack. Figured I had two more years left in the roster before a major overhaul (keep starting lineup plus 5 SP and 3 RP, then redraft for 9 bench positions). However I am in 8th place of 10 teams and continuing to watch the pack pull away.

C - Santana

1B - Teixieria

2B - Kinsler

3B - Wright

SS - Tulowitzski

OF - Holliday

OF - Cruz

OF - Swisher

DH - Pujols

Bench - Aramis Ramirez, Choo, Willingham

DL - Ellsbury

SP - Scherzer, Lester, Gallardo, Haren, Peavy

RP - Motte, Papelbon, Marshall

Bench SP - Shelby Miller, Nova, Minor, Worley, Hellickson

Bench RP - Chapman, Smardzija

Been trying to move Wright for Lawrie - but am not quite ready to trade Wright straight up. This is a points league (1 pt per base, rbi, sb, bb, hbp, rbi). Pitching is 1 pt per IP and K, -1 per er, 15 pts per win, 8 pts per save.

This team looked so good heading in to the season, not sure what went wrong. Should I make wholesale changes to go for youth or do I ride out the early season poor performance? It has been a good run - but maybe I need to start shooping some of my current older players and rebuild?

Think it is more bad luck and slow starts than anything... Tulo, Pujols and your OF are all performing below average, Ellsbury on the DL. A pitching staff with Lester and Haren that has had a rough start. Anyways, I would make the trade of Wright for Lawrie. Wright may out produce Lawrie by a few points this season if he stays healthy all season but Lawrie is the long term guy to have. I would probably just try to hold on to most of the team and hope the ship corrects itself. Maybe move Lester this year for a younger option who is on a team that isn't in shambles? Like a Bumgarner type.

Excellent advice - I was just hesitant on moving Wright straight up for Lawrie....maybe if I package Wright and Lester to the Lawrie guy I can upgrade at pitching as part of the deal. ETA - would an offer of Wright and Lester (or Gallardo) for Lawrie plus either Hamels or Neftali Feliz be ridiculous?

If you can get away with it I would definitely do Wright/Lester for Lawrie/Hamels but I doubt the other team bites. I find it very hard to do same position trades with another team unless one side feels very strongly about a certain player, i.e. Team B is a huge Mets fan or something like that. Most people draft players they like and if they wanted say David Wright instead of Brett Lawrie they probably would have drafted David Wright. So my advice is, if you can make a trade of Wright/Lester for Lawrie/Hamels, do it right away. But seeing as I doubt you will be able to, try to identify a weakness on the other team where they can upgrade, if you can help him out there, that's where you offer.

Good point - he declined the offer saying he thinks Wright is too old. Instead he offered me Lawrie and Wainwright for Pujols and Gallardo. I politely declined. However from another team I have been offered - McCutcheon, Kimbrel and Bumgardner for Pujols, Worley and Marshall. I am very tempted to take this offer as essentially I am giving up one stud and getting 3 very good players in return. I only hesitate because I know Pujols will be raking soon.
