American held hostage by al Qaeda appeals to Obama... (1 Viewer)

Negotiating actually puts more Americans in that region at risk of being kidnapped. Can't negotiate with terrorist.

Sucks for him. A good reason why Pakistan shouldn't be on Americans' travel plans.

Very callous attitude by some of you guys. You realize the kidnappers make them say these things
Sorry if it seems callous but it's the truth. We can't negotiate with them at all or kidnappings will go off the charts. And we aren't going to stop bombing AQ with drones.

This seems like a non-issue. Yes, it's very sad and unfortunate. However, we cannot negotiate with terrorists and when he went to that part of the world he assumed the risk. Clearly this is an AQ ploy to get involved with the U.S. elections. I'm curious to see if and how the republicans make this an issue??
We'll see. I don't think they are even dumb enough to say anything here unless Obama and team were to negotiate.

Obama lies, innocent civilians die. You know the routine.

They already got their fingers burnt on the Chinese deal when they ran off at the mouth. My guess is they'll have the good sense to stay out of this.

Whatever happened to Pfc. Bowe Bergdahl? This soldier is still missing and the media stopped covering this story fast.

Really? He's not the commander-in-chief of the military forces?

"Obama lies" aren't the reason this guy got kidnapped.

The continued bombings of other sovereign nations appears to play a part in it.

IIRC they said he managed to escape in Sept of last year but was recaptured in a couple of days. Still held as far as I know.

I feel for his guy and also for OUR POTUS. I'm no fan of President Obama's but I know that these are the decisions that suck the most. The ones that maybe a no brainer but still your letting an American life, that is being held in the balance, sway the terrorists way. I think that is why we have a policy that we don't negotiate with terrorist (period). I just hope that this guy can somehow escape but as history shows this will most likely end badly. Unless, of course, we discover where he is and the President sends in a rescue team. I would be heavily on the Obama train for at least a week or so, if that happened. I assume Mr. President won't be getting much sleep until this has run it's course for good or bad.

You really think Republicans will bring up this issue during an election year when Obama gave in to Israeli pressure? I thought the story was supposed to be that Obama was an enemy of Israel?

Maybe - I haven't really followed the whole thing that closely. Bottom line is that if this guy got kidnapped on Bush's watch, everyone would go ballistic. Happens for Obama, who really hasn't been all too peaceful in the middle east and it's kind of "well, what can you do". If you're in favor of continuing to kick the crap out of sovereign nations, it's probably best to vote for Obama because he'll be able to continue doing this stuff without reproach, while liberals will get super in arms over anything Romney does there.

Of course it does, you know AQ hates Muslim Socialists.

Through this entire thread, you're the only partisan hack trying to make this a 'my party's good, your party's bad' issue.

I'd think they're discriminant. They probably prefer Muslim Socialists that don't bomb them.

That is correct. He is likely being held in Pakistan right now. Bergdahl isn't a priority because he brought that kidnapping on himself. He made stupid choices and now has to live with them. Both the military and CIA have more important things on their plate right now. They are still looking for him, but he isn't a priority.

I agree that, in general, most liberals have shown how hollow much of their opposition of Bush was. It's pretty sad how few people care about our insane foreign policy.

Bucky was the first one referencing Republican reactions. Sorry, try again.

Wasn't he allegedly drunk and wandered into the capture?

:goodposting: It's a sad situation, but unfortunately this is an area where the government has little choice but to be ruthless and cold-blooded.

He left his post by his own free will and wandered into a nearby town. Most likely to join the taliban. And the way for an American to best serve the Taliban is by being a hostage.

5 for 1? Looks like some bad dudes were released.I'm happy for the American, but I don't feel too good about this.
The detainees are among the most senior Afghans still held at the prison. They are:

—Abdul Haq Wasiq, who served as the Taliban deputy minister of intelligence

—Mullah Norullah Nori, a senior Taliban commander in the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif when the Taliban fought U.S. forces in late 2001

—Khairullah Khairkhwa, who served in various Taliban positions including interior minister and had direct ties to Mullah Omar and Osama bin Laden

—Mohammed Nabi, who served as chief of security for the Taliban in Qalat, Afghanistan, and later worked as a radio operator for the Taliban's communications office in Kabul

—Mohammad Fazl, whom Human Rights Watch says could be prosecuted for war crimes for presiding over the mass killing of Shiite Muslims in Afghanistan in 2000 and 2001 as the Taliban sought to consolidate their control over the country.
