***American Idol Season 13*** (1 Viewer)

I think they got the top 13 right. I'm glad "dreamy eyes" didn't make it. He was clearly below the others vocally but with his image I thought he could make a run.

i thought Briana Oakley had great potential, incredible raw vocal talent that just needed shepherding (plus she needs a makeover). Surprised she lost out to people like MK and Kristen.

I think they got the 13 about right. The last girl they selected as a wild card was awful, though. Really glad the lipstick girl is gone. Didn't want to hear her screaming every week.

I thought all 5 that were forced to sing for the wild card did poorly. I'm hoping it picks up from this point, now that they have a week to sing, and don't have to worry about the emotion of not knowing if you're going to be picked or not.

I don't get the MK love. Below average at best. At least she's hot. Wait...
It's really annoying.....really freaking annoying. She is about as watchable as paint drying.

Nothing there at all. They llet far better talent go at her expense.

If she dressed like a girl.....she would have been gone in Hollywood. This PC crap is getting carried away in every way these days. She is not that good.

even Jena? i thought she was excellent

What does everyone think about them now allowing vovting during the show? I know there is now a limit of 50 votes, but it still does not seem equitable to me.

Also, does anyone know the connection between Alex Preston and Alex and Sierra (X Factor winners) who got all of his "friends and family" shots?

Caleb, Ben, Alex (not necessarily in that order).

The rest are just taking up space. I like CJ Harris but he belongs in a small room sitting on a stool with his guitar, not the big stage. The girls are atrocious.

Alex out of the boys.

Majesty of the girls.

Probably the top 2.

Dreamy Eyes Spencer was eliminated because he sang his scholocky original song when he sang for his life instead of "Say Something"

Showed he wasn't ready or willing to take direction from the judges. Ryan's introduction of Spencer before he sang pretty much said "Listen to the judges" and he didn't. I knew he was done after that.

Caleb and Majesty are the two that stand out so far.

I'd like to hear Caleb do a Meatloaf song. Bat Out of Hell. preferably.

Sam needs to relax, he can't have too many more timid songs like that if he wants to do much better than 5th or 6th. He's just too gunshy for the big stage, but he sounded the best with respect to pitch last night, just too slow of a song and he looked like he was shaking the entire time.

Caleb did the best by far in my opinion. Alex is a much better singer then he showed last night. He needs to sing this song again on the big stage. He'd get a ton of votes from it.

Agree with the comment above about CJ needing to be in a dimlit, bar on a stool, he'd kill it in that setting. He'd do really well here in Nashville at a bar like Bluebird or Tootsies.

Overall though, was a pretty blah showing. Caleb was the only one who did really well, the rest I just didn't care for too much, or was pretty disappointed, figured with the week to prepare they'd all do much better. Was more impressed by some of the Voice auditions then the singers at this stage in the game... not a good sign for this season overall, which sucks because the first few audition weeks were pretty good, thought it was gonna be a good finale, in for a few more weeks to see if it picks up overall, but starting to get let down.

Are they cutting to the top 10? Or is it single eliminations from here on out.

That or some Chris Cornell/Soundgarden. Rusty Cage maybe.

I'd be fine if they cut down to the top 4 already.

I don't get the Sam love. He's a good singer but he's like a cardboard cutout. The guy who sang first sounds like every other country artist on the planet. Blah.

I like the guy who did Folsom Prison Blues and Caleb the best last night.

No way a female wins this year.

probably the best group of judges, and the worst group of final talent. I can't believe how bad some of them are. if there HAS to be a winner, I'll go with Caleb, Majesty and Alex, in that order.

I'm actually shocked how bad they are as a group. and now you add the schticky "tell us 5 things..." that they stole from the Voice, and Randy giving some advice that no one can hear because the audience is screaming, and I think it's just about time we put this show to bed.

I don't get the love for Caleb. I guess he's more polished and ready than the rest, but I think there are better voices in there and once their comfort level rises, he will stand out less and less.

Also don't care for any of the country singers that much.

I think MK will last a while based upon a large, active voting population.

To me, Majesty and Alex are easily the best two. Jena, Sam and Caleb in the next group.

He's already sung that song twice on the show this year (original audition and final Hollywood week song). I can't see him singing it again until the top 3.

Damn, I must have missed the 2nd time. Yah 3 times is probably a bit too much.
Here is his Final Judgement Video.

I have noticed that now that Sam is in Hollywood week, when it pans to his family, the people they show look like they are his mom/dad, instead of his grandparents. Interesting because his background story was that he had to live with his grandparents, who took care of him, because his parents didn't want him. Now that he's in top 13 at American Idol, look who comes crawling back.

Didn't watch much of last nite, saw the ending. Did they get it right?

Saw this too about last year's winner's recent new album release:

That on Billboard 200 Chart, Candice Glover’s Music Speaks is a new entry at no. 14 with 19,000 copies sold.
Ouch, worst one yet.

I sort of liked Candice's performance, but I've always liked her. But what was up with that guy Keith Urban pimped last night? oh man that was horrible.

I think they got it right last night. No way should they save any of those girls, IMO.

I noticed the same thing. There is an interesting story there I'm sure.

It really was. As others said, juding got stronger, but contestants got weaker. Fortunately, The Voice had a very strong opening week. Rerunning Sunday nighght if anyone wants to catch.

Overall a pretty underwhelming week of performances.
Agree, it's pretty crazy how much better Candace sounded then the other girls in the competition, and I don't really care for her. If someone like Angie or Amber was in this season, she'd be so far ahead of all the other girls at this point.

The girls are very underwhelming so far.

Clear as day for me who the top 3 will/should be in no particular order:

Caleb

CJ

Alex

That's it. Those are your three who can actually really bring it and have a shot at something.

I want to see Caleb belt out a great Black Crowes tune. Something like Remedy or Wiser Time.....wow that would be special.

I love CJ......he is the real McCoy. Not perfect.....rock singers are not supposed to be. He brings it from the well.

Alex.....an orignal. He is unique indeed.

MK must go next week......please. Enough.

Candice is an amazing singer, but there's been like zero marketing for her album...which was already pushed back once. most people probably didn't even know it was released.

The "talent" is pretty crappy this year. The fat long-haired guy is likely the best, followed by one of those other guys whose name I don't know.

I really really don't like Keith Urban as a judge. Serious question, does he have some hot wife or is he gay?

The talent gap between the guys and girls is so enormous this year. Would not surprise me if the top 5 is all male.

I don't see a talent gap. I think they all are mediocre at best. Only reason I'm watching is for Harry. Guy is best job ever in terms of being funny and always on point with his comments. Not as funny lately, but who can blame him having to watch those train wreck performances.

If I understand correctly. Alex and Sierra heard Alex watching him on American Idol and they reached out to him on Twitter. So they asked him if he would like to go out to lunch. I guess they hit it off right away. Alex Preston used Alex Kinsey's Guitar on stage during the top 13 week.

Agree about Alex. And the stylists didn't help him out with that outfit. Thx for the backstory, krsone21.

I originally thought the boy talent was better, but not so sure anymore. My early favorites are Alex and Jena. Maybe Majesty. Caleb is good, but too shticky.

I liked Harry at first but lately he's getting annoying to me. He needs to stop flirting with Keith for one thing, it's funny for a time but too much is just creepy. He doesn't mind shooting down a performance, that's for sure. But last night with Caleb, Harry said he already knew how he was going to enjoy Caleb's performance before he even stepped on stage. Ok, so is that a bad thing?

Harry told Caleb that his voice was good and it is obvious he is a rock and roll singer. Then he asked him how he was going to transform the rock and roll music industry. It's almost as if "we have enough rock singers, how are you going to raise the bar? Otherwise why are you here?"

Caleb is supposed to carry rock to another level... like Elvis or the Beatles? Caleb might be thinking this morning that he needs to change his style or something. I hope he doesn't change a thing, although, I think it would be a good idea to sing a rock ballad next week.

He is married to Nicole Kidman
Well then I guess I'll have to go with bi. I find him a little creepy at times.

ETA: I forgot that I do like Jena too. She's the only girl worth anything. The MK love is all PC, as someone mentioned, and it's annoying. I can't imagine how much they will slobber all over themselves when she sings a Melissa Ethridge song.

Totally mediocre night last night. I agree on Alex, he's a better singer than Sam, but his awkwardness will get him eliminated before him. Desperately hoping for at least 2/3 of the country singers to head home soon.

My favorite is still Majesty, but the high note last night was terrible. Jena is good if she gets comfortable on stage.

Dex was great last night. Reminded me why i thought he was, by far, the best of the country guys (and i'm a CJ fan, too).

Ben looked like the love-child of Jase Robertson (Duck Dynasty) and Ernest T. Bass (Andy Griffith Show).

Top 5: Sam, Alex, Caleb, Dex, Majesty

Sam finally looked comfortable last night. I thought shrinking the stage by moving him to the corner and sitting down was a great idea. Probably felt more like him being back home singing to a small crowd, rather then the deer in the headlights look he had last week.

I still havn't felt that "wow" moment from the top 13 this year. I thought the Pink haired chick sounded horrible, same with MK. Either of them should go home tonight for sure.

To be honest, comparing the start of the Voice to the top 13 this year, I wonder how many of them would even get a judge to turn around? Just seems like the Voice already has much better singers. I guess that's the difference in allowing people who have signed contracts + no max age restriction.

No contest between Voice and Idol contestants for me. But, for the reasons you mentioned, you can't really compare them. The Voice has a much more polished group.Over the years it seems to me like Idol has moved closer to becoming a teen talent show, though I know there are still some contestants in their 20s.

awful. this is what it came down to out of thousands of contestants? really? I could walk to Starbucks and probably find someone who can sing equally as well. William Hung might have had a chance to win with this group.

I hope Caleb wins, but I don't really care any more.
