Uhhhh...I've gone through "armed intruder preparation and response" training twice. Part of the training says that throwing things (stapler, paper weight etc) at a shooter, IF there are no other options, can give you valuable seconds to make some sort of escape. We used tennis balls in our training.

But this is just stupid.

This is just a perfect reason to increase donations to the local soup kitchen.

"A student will not walk around with a can in his hand or bag," Ms Holley said, explaining that the cans would be kept in a locked cabinet in classrooms.

"If a shooter actually entered a classroom, the cabinet would be unlocked and the cans used "to distract the gun person and keep them from using his or her gun so that the children and the teacher can escape," she said.

This seems effective.
