And the SB MVP will be.... (1 Viewer)

J. Bettis rushes for 2 TD's and goes out winning the SB mvp in his home city. A story book ending that may come true Sunday.Honourable mentions go to Porter for having 2 sacks, forcing a fumble and playing a good all around game. (He will back up his talk, even though I can't stand him).

Hasselbeck, but he will have robbed Darrell Jackson with over 100yds and a touch and a bunch of critical 3rd down grabs, and Lofa Tatupu who will run back a Bettis fumble 98 yards to seal the victory.

Troy Palamalu.Did I even get close on the spelling of his name? I can see him making a few big defensive plays and taking home MVP.

People love a fairy-tale ending. I think they'll be looking for an opportunity to give it to Bettis if the Steelers win. Although I think that if the Steelers win it will be because of Roethlisberger, just like the last three games.

Troy Palamalu.

Close. It's Polamalu.

I don't know who will win but I think Bettis has almost no chance to win it barring an injury to FWP or biased voters.

I think Ben will share with the Bus.If it's a blowout, I also expect to see the Steelers bending over backward to make sure Jerome's last carry yields a TD.

FWP.... remember him? I love how Ben, Bettis & Porter have sheltered Parker from much media pressure; and I like him to steal the thunder from the sentimental favorite Bettis.

Prediction:Polamalu has 10 tackles, a sack, and an INT and is the reason the Steelers win.Bettis rushes 8 times for 11 yards and a TD and is named MVP because it's a nice story.

Special teams may just be the difference in this game.With 1 TD reception and 1 return TD, your Super Bowl XL MVP is................Antwaan Randle El

Jeramy Stevens I think he's SEA's best big play receiving threat and SEA wins they'll need to beat that blitz with a few big plays.

Charlie Batch
You know, I actually thought about this. A little twist on the "hometown boy" story. Batch grew up in Pittsburgh and started his career in Detroit. Would be a nice story. Except for the fact that it would mean Ben got hurt. Not exactly good for the long-term future of the Steelers.

Yes, your right the media has done a good job of sheltering FWP who really has been below average in the post season.His rushing totals of 16 carries for 38 yards, 17 carries for 59 yards, and 14 carries for 35 yards in the 3 post season games is pretty weak. His 132 total yards on the ground on 47 carries works out to an average of 2.8 yards per carry in those 3 games. He also does not have 1 rushing TD in the play offs. He did have one game where he had 41 yards in the air with 1 TD but other then that he has been pretty gross.

The Bus has not been a whole lot better having 137 rushing yards on 37 carries but it is still an improvement over Parker. The bus has also rumbled in for 3 TD's.

Pitt will feed the Bus and he will get the MVP.

Let's look at the RBs to recently face the Steelers' defense:

wk13 - cin - Rudi Johnson - 98 yards, 2 TDs, 4.7 ypc

wk14 - chi - T. Jones - 72 yards, 1 TD, 5.1 ypc

wk 15 & 16, shut down the Vikings and Browns' running game.

wk 17 - K. Jones - 78 yards, 0 TDs, 4.3 YPC (Kevin freaking Jones?)

playoffs

@cin - Rudi Johnson - 56 yards, 1 TD, 4.3 ypc

@ind - E. James - 56 yards, 1 TD, 4.3 ypc

@den - Anderson/Bell/Plummer - 97 yards, 1 TD, 4.6 ypc

Common theme - just about everyone that runs against the Steelers' defense has good ypc, but some have abandoned the run. Opponents also are getting rushing TDs.

"So how come the Steelers have surrendered just 3.4 ypa for the season?"

Because their run defense was far better earlier in the year:

wk3 - nwe - held Dillon to 2.8 ypc

wk4 - sdg - held Tomlinson to 3.4 ypc

wk8 - bal - held Lewis to 3.6 ypc

wk9 - gnb - held Gado to 2.4 ypc

wk10 - cle - held Droughns to 3.3 ypc

wk11 - bal - held Taylor to 3.1 ypc

They haven't been stopping the run nearly as well in the last couple of months, and their rush defense numbers have been slipping. Contrast that with the Seahawks holding Portis to 2.4 ypc in the second round.

Now this suddenly suspect run defense is gonna meet the best OL in the NFL. Uh-oh.

MVP of the game - S. Alexander - 125-150 yards 2 TDs.

And how many of those yards came after the Steelers were in the lead and playing a nickel or dime package and not very concerned about the run?

Look up some blow out games from the 2005 regular season. You do not always find that the RBs have piled up good "garbage time" numbers. I arbitarily hit week 10:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/boxscore?gid=20051113030

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/boxscore?gid=20051113011

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/boxscore?gid=20051113013

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/boxscore?gid=20051113029

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/boxscore?gid=20051113026

There. I grabbed the 5 blowout wins in week 10 of 2005. In only one game did the loser have its primary ball carrier even crack 4 ypc. And the one that did only got to 4.1.

Bad rush defense is bad rush defense.

In case you missed it, the Steelers just played Denver (who were the second leading rushing team in the NFL) and had no trouble dismantling the Broncos.Everyone knows you hate the Steelers, but you really are reaching here.

Its interesting to look at the splits in the Seahawks win over the Redskins. Alexander of course went out with injury. Seattle still threw just 26 passes to 33 runs. That underscores the fact they rushed 519 times to 474 passes on the season - this is a team committed to the running game.

Kimo van Oelhoffen.

He'll hit Hasselbecks knee on the first passing play which he completes for 66 yards to D-Jax, sending him to the sideline indefinetly.

If it's not Smoo, and I still think there's a good chance it will be, it will be Lofa Tatupu, because he was once implanted with insect DNA and can now lift 50 times his own body weight.
