Not saying the Titans will win the Superbowl, but they make a compelling argument at this point they are the #1 team in the NFL right now...

Now discuss...poll added (min 4 wins to be included)

The answer is the same as it has been since week one. No one. Any one of these teams can be beaten on any given week during the regular season. The only thing consistent about the NFL teams these days is that they are INconsistent. This question can only be answered after week 16.

Why not. Their defense is very strong, and they have a pretty good running game.

There's not a best team? Must be a Pats fan?

IMHO they (the titans) haven't had that hard of a schedule. They faced some teams that were struggling on offense and had OL troubles.

The Titans don't have a chance. They won't be able to keep up with teams that can score.

I'll go with the Colts or Broncos.

Tennessee is not the best team, but they should be top-5 or 6. I like Pittsburgh, Dallas, Indy, Giants, and Denver in there.. not sure what order. Going 5-0, with that very good defense and intangibles (great coaching, special teams), puts them above most teams.ETA:

True, but they've beaten 3 good quality teams (Vikings, Jags, Ravens). Besides, they've had their own offensive struggles. Heck, they lost their starting quarterback.

Why? Just so it can change after week 17, the playoffs and the Super Bowl?Of course there is a best team, we'll just disagree on who it is.

My top 5:

Tennessee

Indy

Pittsburgh

NY Giants

Washington

When Romo comes back, Dallas will be top 5, but for the next few weeks, they're out of the top 5, maybe top 10.

I can't remember the last time we were 6 weeks into a season and I couldn't honestly tell you with some degree of certainty who was the best couple of teams. Right now I can't, about ten teams could be the best and I don't see that changing. Could be a boatload of 10-6/11-5 teams this year, maybe one team wins 12.

Steelers in my book and i can't stand them. They've won some games against decent competition while dealing with injury issues. having parker and Roth back will help. I think their healthly O trumps the titans and the defenses are a push.

This the same Steelers O line that gave up 9 sacks to the Eagles?

Yup...the Eagles played a great game and are always capable of putting together an outstanding defensive game plan. Nuetral field, TEN v. PIT, I take PIT without hesistation.

:excited: The Broncos? Are you serious? I guess defense means nothing to you, eh?The Titans will be able to run the ball on both of those teams, and Kerry Collins has faced much tougher defenses this year than either of those teams can manage. And no one knows how to slow Peyton down better than Tennessee, with the possible exception of Jacksonville.Without injury, no team in the AFC currently matches up with the Titans. Tennessee can run the ball and has the best defense in the league.

Patriots fan here. The Titans are currently the best team in football. I own Chris Johnson in the subscriber contest, and am a fan of Jeff Fisher, so I'm happy to say it.Big reversion of the NFC, and the NFC East in particular, this past weekend. AFC will continue to own NFC over the immediate term (next 5 years).

3 of the Titans wins were against Cincinnati, Houston, and Minnesota. Best of the best there huh.NFC is starting to come back on the AFC, write it down.

I still think it's the Giants. They had an off-game, but seem to me the most complete team. They can run and throw with pretty equal ease, have a good pass rush and run D AND a solid pass D. One let down against a team coming of a bye, with their season almost on the line, and a QB whose job might have been on the line, that doesn't knock them off the top yet, in my mind.

The Titans are overrated, but I'm not sure who to put up at #1. People want to compare the Titans to the '00 Ravens, except Baltimore had a better defense and a better running game, and maybe even a better passing game. In other words, this is not the 2000 Ravens. Still, I think the Titans have been the best team in the NFL so far, but almost certainly won't be the best team in the NFL in weeks seven to seventeen.

I know they've underachieved so far this year, but my nomination would be the Chargers. This is a team with a great QB that is finally seeing Tomlinson get healthy. The Chargers now have some wide receivers to complement Gates. The defense isn't as good as in years past, and the loss of Merriman is significant. But considering how far the other great teams have dropped, I'd put San Diego as my top team for the rest of the season.

So the Titans are the best team to date, and I project the Chargers as the best team going forward.

I agree with you.

Tennessee can run the ball, but all a team needs to do is shut down the run like Baltimore did. Tennessee barely beat Baltimore, and Baltimore doesn't have much of an offense.

this may sound ludicrous, but i think the cardinals have to be in the discussion and i wouldn't be surprised to see them get a 1 or 2 seed in the NFC playoffs (b/c of their sched.).

they've beaten some quality teams and almost beat another quality one on the road.

for most teams it's hard to find wins over quality teams, b/c frankly there just aren't that many really good teams in the league.

they are a balanced team with a great offense and quickly improving defense.

not saying they are the best team in the league, but they can be in the discussion, imo, which frankly says alot about the NFL, good or bad.

Not til they look even remotely similar on the road as they do at home.

if that were the case, there wouldn't need to be a discussion. we could just go ahead and crown the cards the best team in the league.they almost beat the skins on the road (but i guess that's no big accomplishment now). they laid an egg against the jets, but we're seeing every team in the league has flaws and is prone to the stinker from time to time.i do agree, i don't think they are the best team in the league. i have no clue who the best team in the league is.

i'll stick with the Gints followed closely by the Steelers/Redskins
this is amazing.of the 3 best teams in the league that you just posted, one just got beaten at home by the rams and one got destroyed by the browns, and i can't really make much of an argument against them.it's going to be a nutty year in this league.

I'm hearing a lot of talk about how the Giants still should be #1 and how easy the Titans schedule has been. But looking back, the Giants have played St Louis, Seattle, and Cincy. And of course, not only losing, but the way they lost to the Browns should knock them further down.

Of course we will surely know about them soon. They have a fairly tough stretch of games coming with SF, PIT on the road followed by 5 of 7 division games (DAL 2X, PHI 2X, WAS) + ARI & BAL.

Probably why it's a good argument the Titans are the best so far...no one can make claim they have beaten them.

Best team in Sept/early October has been Tennessee but I don't see them being among the final 4 in January.
