From RotoWorld:

Andre Johnson (knee sprain) confirmed that he will not play Sunday.

Houston's medical staff originally called Johnson "questionable to doubtful" after he underwent an MRI Monday, but Johnson will likely be listed as out.

Thanks for the update, and no offense, but any reason it couldn't have been posted in one of the AJ threads?
I didn't want it to get lost since it's obviously pretty big news. If the mods want to merge it into one of them that's cool. I just thought it was big enough news to warrant its own thread.

As opposed to putting into one of the two threads about AJ's knee injury? That's what the other threads are for. Again, I'm not bagging on you for it but when there are established threads about a topic, any new news on that topic should go there. Right?

Thank you for posting a new thread instead of burying it deep into one of the others since I no longer read those.

Like I said, if the mods want to merge this into another Johnson thread that's cool with me. I just didn't want this to get lost in one of them for folks looking for an update.

I don't know why, but I first read that as Season and not Sunday. I almost had a heart attack....
There were rumors the other day that it was season ending - so maybe it got into your head and nested there....

Give him a break. You know he sat there all morning waiting to "break" the news to the FBG Shark Pool. Probably had a window open with title ready and stuff...
Please tell me you're kidding.

You aren't qualified for a job here. Sorry to break the news.

Who said I'm looking for one? Not sure what your problem is but I'm guessing it doesn't have a place in this thread.

Guys,

With regard to the "put it in the old thread vs make a new thread" there isn't a real clear line. On big news like this that can stand on it's own, I'm fine with it having it's own thread. Too many times the thread topics aren't descriptive enough and a guy scanning titles would miss the big news that he's out for this week.

So I guess the rule of thumb to use is ask yourself if the new information is big enough to warrant a new thread. In this case, I think it's ok.

But thanks for having this discussion. I know you guys are all on the same page of just trying to make the board better and I'm loving that.

J

:sadbanana: I hate mini-mods that think that their way of reading the forums is the only way.
Sorry, I didn't know asking a question made me a mini mod. I thought I was respectful and unimposing but don't let that stop you from slamming me. I'll go along with your way of reading the forums and any time there is any new news on any topic I'll start a new thread instead of posting in a thread already about the topic. That ought to make the SP really easy to navigate. Forget about Joe's attempt to clean up the SP, let's just post everything in a new thread. Thanks for enlightening me on how you think the SP should be run.
Always amusing watching the wannabe hall monitors bumping a thread with complaints that the thread shouldn't exist, and then bumping the thread some more with their inevitable defense of their continual bumping of the thread with complaints that the thread shouldn't exist. God bless the anal retentive . . .

Speaking of "news," do you have any on Johnson, or are you just here to insult and pee in the Shark Pool? AJ was supposed to be re-evaluated today, and the only update is that he's now definitely "out." Does that mean the evaluation didn't go well, or is it unrelated? Does anyone know if there's any update besides being out (which was already expected)? An earlier report this week said doctors were "optimistic" and I wonder if that's changed at all.

just when I was about to drop Jacoby for some WW RB depth, this news comes out. I guess I am compelled to hold onto him to see what he does. Maybe I can "sell high" after this week.

Too bad Houston doesn't have an early bye this year. At least Andre knows he has to sit out at least 1 game. A missed game or two is fine, but if he reinjures it, and messes up his season, that would suck.

Anyone ripping on Packer for breaking this is simply jealous IMHO...the other AJ thread was full of crap and I for one am glad we got a fresh thread. I am not pointing the finger at any one poster but again these are the good kind of threads and I like ot be able to click in the SHark Pool so I can find this info. Good work Packer!

Don't be jealous just because he beat you to it.

Really? I never heard these rumors. Was it a respectable source?
I can't remember, sorry. If I can dig it back up, I will post it or a link.--- edited to add:Thinking about it, I think it was just a spirited discussion about pcl vs acl injuries in the original discussion thread here in the Pool. Somebody might have referenced an actual article, I don't remember. But I remember some chicken-littling about how he could be done for the season.Regardless, it's the sort of thing that might stick in one's head.

More on this from KFFL:

Texans | Johnson said he doesn't know how long he will miss

Wed, 19 Sep 2007 13:17:08 -0700

Megan Manfull, of the Houston Chronicle, reports Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson (knee) said he does not know when he will be able to return, but he has not ruled out playing Sunday, Sept. 30 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Them? :pirate:

Another update from RotoWire:

When asked to give a timetable on Johnson's (knee) recovery, coach Gary Kubiak sounded cautiously optimistic that his star wideout won't be out too long, the Texans' official site reports. "How long will he be out? I don’t know," Kubiak said. "I know that it’s very favorable that this could be a short-term deal. I don’t think we’ll know until he’s re-examined, which I think the re-examination is going to take place Friday..."

Johnson, who was sporting a knee brace Wednesday, has pretty much ruled himself out for Week 3, indicating that he is "going to take it day-by-day and week-by-week." We hope to know more after the results of his next knee exam become available.

If you read the post you would see there was nothing anywhere near "ripping" on Packer. I made a point of making sure that was clear.

Pro Football Talk is saying he could be out five weeks. This is just a rumor at this time so take that into consideration. Here's their report:

JOHNSON IS EXPECTED TO MISS FIVE WEEKS

Although the injured knee of Texans receiver Andre Johnson is scheduled to be re-examined on Friday, the current scuttlebutt is that he'll miss five weeks.

We're not saying he'll miss five weeks -- we're only saying that that's the scuttlebutt. (It's the same thing as Mort saying that his report about Eli Manning missing a month wasn't wrong because his sources truly thought he would miss a month, but in this case we're disclosing that fact before, not after, the story is proven to be wr-wr-wr-wr-bullcaacaa.)

If he misses five weeks, he'll be back for the October 28 game at San Diego.

I'm thinking 3-5 weeks seem about right, but KL is right.. we should make it a point not to put any stock into PFL's reports.

An MCL sprain and considering his position and the stopping and cutting it requires, 3-4 weeks is very reasonable.

2 games for sure IMO. After that it will be week to week.

I just cut jennings to take a chance on Jacoby for my bench, even if Andre is out for 2-3 weeks and Jones can step up it should continue as the season progresses.

(Rotoworld) With Andre Johnson sidelined, Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said he will likely use a rotation system at wide receiver in Week 3.Impact: Kubiak is talking about rotatiing the receivers in and out every two plays. Jones remains the best upside wide receiver option this week, though Kubiak said that Jones, Kevin Walter, Andre Davis and Jerome Mathis will play a 'near-equal' amount. TE Owen Daniels is likely the top Texans target overall.

AGreen, IMO, is the biggest fantasy benefiociaries of an injured AJ - we will also get a Walter sighting. Schaub gets a nbig downward tiock here. That is, if anyone was wondering what I thought about it. :tfp:

I agree with this.I think A. Green - substantiallyO. Daniels - a littleM. Schaub - substantially

After this week (where AJ is obviously out), what about the next two weeks @ATL (Schaub reunion  ) and vs. MIA?

Any chance they try to hurry him back to take advantage of two "winnable" games? If I'm a head coach and I see these two games on the horizon, I'm talking to AJ every day to see how close he is so they don't miss a golden opportunity to start out 4-1. As long as it won't jepordize AJ for the season, I think they may push real hard to get him active ASAP. Even just having him out there at 70% would open things up a lot for this offense.

Does the fact that there was no reported swelling factor in to AJ's status. Have there been similar injuries where there was no swelling reported and what were the results of that player's missed time? TIA.

Even if he comes back in a couple weeks, the real problem is that his knee will not be 100%. That will affect his play for awhile. It might be better for him to heal up 100%, and take several weeks to do so.
