Andre Roberts FA in 2014 (I think he could be a great buy in Dyn) (1 Viewer)

Guys I'm thinking of picking up Andre Roberts as my WR6 in a 16 team Dyn PPR Start Up draft. Curious on your thoughts for him in 2014 as a FA on where would be a good landing spot???? I think the guy can still ball. But due to being behind Fitz, Floyd and Ellington in the pecking order. He hasn't been needed or used much. Matt Waldman and I were talking on Twitter and both agreed DET would be a great landing spot. What say you guys?

I like him. Debating dropping Stephen Hill for Roberts or maybe Marquess Wilson in a 10 team Superflex I'm in that actually has some potential on the wire.

Yeah I'm thinking he could boost his value with a different situation. Trying to think where he would be a good fit. DET or SF come to mind.

Here are some ideas:

San Diego

Washington

Tampa

Sleeper location: Carolina (he is from SC and attended college there too)

I'm going to hold him and see where he winds up. Could be a decent fill in for bye weeks next year.

Possible teams looking at WR: Washington, Carolina, KC, Detroit, Indy, San Fran? and more

SF has Crabtree, Boldin, and manningham.Det won't have cap space for a starting WR. They are better off drafting IMO

No way he goes to either.

More likely:

Carolina, Washington, Kansas City, Tampa bay, St. Louis, giants

Disagree. He is a decent #2 and can flourish if he is paired with a good QB.

There are more than a few teams that could use a decent #2 - most which have been listed earlier in the thread.

Roberts is just a guy
I don't think anyone is really going to be counting on him... but could he be a decent WR5-6 if he lands in a good situation? maybe. I know one league I have we can start up to 5 WRs, he definitely could be used as a spot start (given the situation/opportunity he might have).

Manningham and Boldin are both free agents next season, but insert Patton in one of those spots. Roberts isn't a huge upgrade to him

Andre Roberts's deal with Skins will end up 4yrs around $16M, with half of that guaranteed. Very nice haul for him,

Redskins agreed to terms with WR Andre Roberts on a four-year, $16 million contract.

Roberts just turned 26 and played his college ball at nearby Citadel. He can play outside and in the slot. Roberts will slide in as the starter opposite Pierre Garcon, ending Santana Moss' run in Washington. The Skins will field a starting wideout tandem of sub-six-footers in 2014, as Roberts is 5-foot-11 and Garcon is a tick under 6-foot. Roberts could flirt with WR3 fantasy value in D.C., though we wouldn't anticipate consistency. Garcon is a target hog.
What is his value now, is he worth a grab if he is on waivers?

Think he's worth an add. Outside of Garcon and Reed, there really isn't anyone else in Washington for RG3 to get the ball too. Could see him being a possible WR3 this season.

He did catch 64 passes just two years ago, so given a chance maybe he can produce those numbers again and that I think he may definitely be worth an add.

Robert Griffin III, I’m told, is a fan of WR Andre Roberts. RGIII isn’t calling the shots — but he has still made it known he likes Roberts.

He will be over hyped in fantasy circles. Jay Gruden was a decent enough coordinator with Cincy (did a lot with Dalton being quite average) and now as the head coach he will have a pretty big hand in what goes on offensively with the Redskins. However, outside of AJ Green how many other viable consisten fantasy receivers did Cincy have when he was coordinator there? Roberts will have a few big games here or there, but I don't see any consistency at all.

Garcon was nothing special until he got a chance in Washington, who knows what Roberts can do. But he will have opportunity since he is getting 8 mil guaranteed and the fact they went after him out of the gate says something. But he clearly has fantasy relevance now as he is about to be a #2 WR. I always pull for the small school kids like him.

There are countless number 2 wr's in the NFL that are not fantasy relevant. I have nothing against Roberts and maybe he could be a nice pick up for the Redskins. I just don't see him in that system being a very good fantasy wide receiver. I think as of now he should be considered a WR4 or WR5. A lot of people will hope or expect that they are aquiring a fantasy WR 2.

Remember he is coming from a pass happy offense in Arizona. Palmer had 572 pass attempts last year. Roberts had 43 catches on 72 targets for 471 yards and 2 td's. That is really average. I get that he was the WR 3 there, but if you dig into the numbers more the year Roberts was considered to have a 'good' year he had 114 targets and was only able to turn that into 64 catches for 759 yards and 5 td's. He is just not a play maker.

Last year in Gruden's system the second WR had 51 catches on 80 targets for 712 yards and although he did have 10 td's, 4 of those came in one game.

Robert's is what he is. An average NFL wr, that would take a lot of things going right for him to be fantasy relevant. I think he gets over drafted and it won't be by me.

I don't see him being overhyped at all, personally. He was floating around on waivers last year in most of the dynasty leagues I'm in -- I grabbed him in a few and if he can be WR40 or so I'll be thrilled. If anyone wants to pay WR3 prices I'll accept right away. I think everyone knows he's just a decent depth play.

Redskins' Andre Roberts: I wanted to be the No. 2 WRBy Marc Sessler

Around the League Writer

The DeSean Jackson signing in Washington gives the Redskins a collection of weapons on offense the equal of any team in the conference.

Third-year quarterback Robert Griffin III is a Grade A bounce-back candidate with the former Eagles wideout added to the likes of Pierre Garcon, tight end Jordan Reed and the newly signed Andre Roberts.

As for his role in the big party, Roberts acknowledged this week, "I envisioned one thing and then we signed DeSean Jackson."

"That's how the league is; that's how the league works," he told WTEM-AM on Thursday, per ESPN.com's John Keim. "Going into my situation, I wanted to be the No. 2 receiver. But I still don't know how it's going to work out. Obviously, when you look at how much money is being made (by) each guy, you'd think that's going to be (the) No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3."

The 'Skins handed Roberts a four-year, $16 million deal with $8 million in guarantees. Jackson will make $16 million guaranteed over the next two seasons.

Roberts has been here before. He saw his chances with the Arizona Cardinals dip from 837 snaps and 114 targets in 2012 to 605 snaps and 73 looks last season in an offense featuring Michael Floyd as one of the league's more intriguing second fiddles. "It was definitely frustrating," Roberts said.

The good news is that new coach Jay Gruden had a track record in Cincinnati of distributing the ball to plenty of targets. After A.J. Green's 98 catches last season, Giovani Bernard (56), Marvin Jones (51), Mohamed Sanu (47) and Jermaine Gresham (46) all had their share of opportunities.

Jackson joining the mix likely means a more defined slot role for Roberts -- and, yes, fewer snaps -- but all four of Washington's primary pass-catchers have the ability to puncture defenses deep. In a league where teams are making three-receiver sets their bread and butter, the difference between No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 means less than it used to.

In the latest edition of the "Around The League Podcast," the guys continue the offseason Roster Reset series by breaking down the NFC West and AFC South.

I don't like this about the NFL offseason. I can totally imagine how Roberts is feeling. Assuming he has his usual work ethic and professionalism, I don't think there's anything wrong with him saying he wanted to be the #2 and thought he'd be when he signed. Usually this bites a player for saying so....hate that, seems like a normal thought while a free agent considering possible teams.

Bet he wished he signed in Carolina.
