United States Attorney Preet Bharara feels emboldened, sources say, following the conviction of former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver on all of seven corruption charges. Despite lacking a smoking gun to constitute an explicit quid pro quo, the jury handed Bharara a sweeping win. Such is the publics appetite for corrupt politicians, observers say.

Three sources are confirming that Bharara intends to indict Governor Andrew Cuomo on January 2nd along with a half dozen associates and former staffers on public corruption, racketeering, conspiracy, and honest services fraud.

The Chronicle is unable to confirm widespread rumors that the former staffers are Howard Glaser, Joe Percoco and Larry Schwartz.

Glaser resigned in June of last year as Director of State Operations and was thought to be Cuomos top aide. Percoco left a $175,000 salary with the Governor on October 25th of this year, and was known as Cuomos political enforcer.

wasn't that the kind of grandstanding that got guys like Cuomo and Spitzer enemies? who does this state's attorney guy think he is?!

Do they really do that stuff on a Saturday?

Do they also telegraph that they are doing it so far ahead?

That makes me dubious tbh.

People don't realize the Feds don't need strict quid pro quo to charge and convict. There is 1. Pay to Play which basically just means that a contractor or someone the politician regulates gives that politician money or gift or some kind of advantage and so becomes part of a racket whereby the person or company later receives benefits, or 2. The improper use of office, so for instance a politician uses the weight and imprimatur of his office to help some person or company because they are getting a personal benefit. No strict 'this for that' is needed.

While I wouldn't really be surprised if something like this happened, given that Sheldon Silver was just convicted this week, I am not sure I trust the source. I live here and I've never heard of the Buffalo Chronicle. They have 40 Twitter followers. There's no author listed for the article and no sources. A lot of their articles appear to be all over the place. Local politics with a bit of a right-wing bent, lots of articles about Carl Paladino and the school board, several articles about the Seneca Nation.

Here's one of the top links I found when googling the source, a local tea party organization hosting an event about how to become a writer for this outlet - http://www.meetup.com/TEA-New-York/events/226655665/

Again, wouldn't really surprise me if it did happen, but I'm not sure this source is worth anything. Take it with a grain of salt.
