Andy D's 2nd annual Super-Mega, 3 Round, Post-Combine, (1 Viewer)

2. St. Louis Rams - Jake Long, OT - Michigan

Orlando Pace can't play forever, and if they don't help out the o-line, Bulger may follow him into retirement instead of playing piñata. They invested WAY too much into Bulger last season to allow that to happen. Plus, they have one of the games top backs in Jackson.

They drafted Alex Barron two years ago and has been developing at RT. With the addition of Long, the Rams have some flexibility as to which guy plays where. The buzz seems to be that Long is better suited to RT. I'm not sure about that. I think he'd be a run-blocking beast on the either side and will hold his own no matter where he plays.
That's why the Rams are drafting No. 2 every year!

3. Atlanta Falcons- Sedrick Ellis, DT - U.S.C.

Ryan is off the board and they acquired Michael Turner in free agency, so there's no need for McFadden. At this point, questions would swirl about someone trading up for Run DMC, but it's still too expensive to do so.

Grady Jackson was released, leading to first rounder Jamaal Anderson and previous year's addition Jon Abraham to underperform. The addition of Ellis will pay big dividends as the league starts to copy the Giants' success blueprint. Concerns about Dorsey's leg injuries cause him to drop just like it did Alan Branch last year.

The Falcons see what drafting Okoye did for Mario Williams and try and copy the pattern for their 2007/2008 draft picks.
.....plus they still may get a stud OT if they choose in the 2nd round. Cherilus may still be on the board for them.
They just released Harrington today.....They may have to trade up for Ryan afterall.

4. Oakland Raiders- Chris Long, DE - Virginia

This would be a difficult choice for Leisure Suit Alan, wouldn't it? Does he take the guy with the flashy skills (McFadden) or the kid of one of the franchises all-time greats?

Since they signed Fargas to a relatively big deal (of course I think I could get a deal from the Raiders this off season) and the fact that they paid Tommy Kelly absurd money to move inside, I think they fill the gap at the DE spot with Chris Long. Too bad for Chris Long and good news for Darren McFadden.

That's a good pick for them. Either one will do I guess. I'm suprised that Ellis's stock has gone up so quickly but he might be worth it.
He was damn near unblockable at the Senior Bowl and measured really well at the combine.
Will be attending the USC Pro Day on April 2nd for Draftguys. Can't wait to see him in action in person. I expect him to not make it past 5, I would be stunned if he went past 10 on draft day.

:lmao:   I'd have been happy with Dorsey as well.

Hope so, I'd love another handful of picks.
Sorry, no trades in this mock.
I'm not so sure I like where this is going for my guys at #6 -

McBusten? :lmao:
Honestly after the Roger Vick debacle ( I mean who the hell takes a FB with their #1 pick anyways), anything is possible...and I guess couldnt be worse.

I think they'll take their chances on a 2nd round QB and if they get burned, just roll with Chris Redman.
100% agree.
Yep. Dimitroff is going to build from the lines outward. Ellis makes a TON of sense for the Falcons.

While McFadden is no AP, I don't get the hate. It's not like your squad is loaded with playmakers.

A lot of fans of the Black and Silver, say no way the ypass of McFadden, but this is the smartest move Oak could make.

No hate for McFadden, but I know Dallas would love to trade up and ...oh wait *hijack* The Jets just traded their #6 pick to Dallas for their two 1st rounders. :banned: *wishful thinking*

This makes WAY too much sense on WAY too many levels for ahem...that franchise. Just my opinion.

Chris Long to the Raiders makes too much sense for it not to happen if he's sitting there at 4.

Unless Al is off his prescribed meds and taking the pills that MadDog Baker from the Angel's gave him.

I'm curious as to how he would be accepted with the Raider fans with him being Howies son. I think they would love the kid and the pick.Whenever I think of bad fan reactions at the combine I always think of the Raider fans elling and screaming. I think they would very happy with the pick.

With all the crazy money he's spent on Tommy Kelly, Justin Fargas, Javon Walker, and Gibril Wilson, I think he outsmarts himself and does a Costanza-like move of doing the opposite - which in this case is the right thing.

Today's work day is the complete suck.

I have a meeting in 5 minutes so I am actually going to miss the Jet's pick.

Hey Gang Green, when you boo the pick, put some extra mustard on it for me.

I'll grab ya a knish.

If Chris Long is sitting at 4 when the Raiders are put on the clock, you will likely be able to hear me screaming from my basement in Canada for them to select him.

Good pick Andy!

Thank you Andy - and I was afraid I would have to work this pm!

BTW - Here's one Jet fan that would be happy with DMac! It would be nice to have one player that gives DCs nightmares!

Man even a mock draft goes horribly wrong for you. You ARE a Jets fan indeed.

Well, the Chiefs target just went by the wayside....now they probably would go for a reach like Clady @ 5.
Yup.5. Kansas City Chiefs - Ryan Clady, OT - Boise St.

The simple fact is that it was hard to find a worse o-line in the league last year. Clady showed at his pro day that he could be this year's Levi Brown - the tackle that gets picked a bit higher than he should. However, Clady's probably a better prospect than Brown.

Clady's pro day went extremely well.

I'm tempted to put someone like Mike Jenkins or McKelvin here since they released Ty Law, but the position is deep and their type of corner is typically drafted later on. Another consideration is taking the surprisingly falling Glenn Dorsey. But they spent 2nd and 3rd rounders on the DT spot last year and I think they give them a chance to develop.

I'd have to agree with you on this pick here... i think its a no-brainer for the Chefs! I don't know much about Clady, but from what I understand, he sits atop tier 2 for tackles in this draft

Wow, look out below on Dorsey. With Jenkins in the fold in NY and the Pats with a Pro Bowl 3-4 NT, how far does he go?

The Jets phone is ringing off the hook Andy....it's Dallas, please let them pick it up!!!!

(If we do take McFadden, I don't hate it, I just think we could fill extra needs first), but Belichick will surely have his work cut out for him with the new O-Line and him behind it) :goodposting:

Nice job Andy. Not a lot of hyperbole or jargon- just a thoughtful, assessment of who might go where. I definitely think Atlanta addresses the O or D line. Very entertaining so far.

Good pick, and great news for LJ / Kolby Smith!!

All right. Since there seems to be sufficient interest (how do you like my LHUCKS-like attention hooooring? )

1. Miami - Matt Ryan, QB - Boston College

This pick stinks. It's going to make a lot of people right and a lot of people wrong. Fortunately for the wrong ones, the right ones won't be able to crow about "told you so" because it really is a total guess as to who will be the pick here.

Does Chris Long make the most sense? Certainly. He's obviously talented, has a head for the game, the pedigree, and the desire, to be a cornerstone for a franchise. But there is a precedent for Parcells taking a QB this high (Bledsoe). And just like Quinn was sold short as to what he meant to the Notre Dame Flailing Irish, I think Ryan is to the BC Eagles. How many games would BC have won with an average QB?

If it were me, even though the franchise spent a 2nd on Beck, I'd like to up my chances of finding a QB to build around by drafting Ryan. Then I increase the chance that one or the other (or even both) guys pan out.

There's a chance that ANY guy taken with the #1 overall could fail. That's why I think the NFL needs to do something about the rookie salary structure - it's too punitive for the teams drafting high. But that's a discussion for another time. But I don't see QBs busting at a higher rate than any other position, so I say the Fins should swing for the fences here.
Do I assume correctly from various things in the write up above that you are not drafting who you think should be picked by a team, but are instead mocking what player you think teams will actually take?

I thought this was supposed to be "crazy outside-the-box" These picks all make sense.
Well I wasn't going to go stupid either. Most mocks have C. Long going first, Rams bypassing Jake Long, the Falcons not going d-line, and who knows what with Oakland.

We're only on pick 5. Pick 7 is where it gets interesting.

If Dorsey dropped that far, NE would be very tempted if the were comfortable with his injury situation. Seymour, Wilfork and maybe even Warren are FA's after 09 if I remember correctly.

Yes. More often than not, I'm trying to stick with who I think is one of, if not THE, likeliest pick for the particular franchise. Some teams are tougher to do that for than others.

Warren's signed through 2013. The other two are signed through 2009.

Amazing how the Chiefs O-line went from one of the most dominating in the league to one of the most disastrous in such a short amount of time. This pick makes sense.

Do the Jet's take Gholston instead of McFadden?
Nope.6. New York Jets - Darren McFadden, RB - Arkansas

We'll leave the "character concerns" off the table here and just say it's a a blessnig and not a curse for the Jets that McFadden is here. Why should they draft him when they already have Thomas Jones? As has been said before - for the same reason the Vikes took AP when they had Taylor. He adds a dynamic that the offense simply doesn't have.

This kind of playmaker added to the Faneca signing will really help the Jets. In the AFC, you want to keep the ball out of your opponent's hands as much as possible, double so when you play the Patriots twice.

Jets fans, I promise you'll like rounds 2 and 3.
