Andy D's 2nd annual Super-Mega, 3 Round, Post-Combine, (1 Viewer)

It's obvious to me right now that the Jets just don't understand what the draft's all about.

Do the Jet's take Gholston instead of McFadden?
Nope.6. New York Jets - Darren McFadden, RB - Arkansas

We'll leave the "character concerns" off the table here and just say it's a a blessnig and not a curse for the Jets that McFadden is here. Why should they draft him when they already have Thomas Jones? As has been said before - for the same reason the Vikes took AP when they had Taylor. He adds a dynamic that the offense simply doesn't have.

This kind of playmaker added to the Faneca signing will really help the Jets. In the AFC, you want to keep the ball out of your opponent's hands as much as possible, double so when you play the Patriots twice.

Jets fans, I promise you'll like rounds 2 and 3.
I don't hate it....but I dont love it. How many girls does he knock up his first few weeks in NYC?? He is going to motivated for that paycheck, thats for sure. (Please oh please don't be Blair Thomas reincarnate)

I'm going to be sick when the Pats land Gholston.
I doubt that they would take him if he were there. Too much risk, too much money, and BB has said he doesn't like taking guys early that have to be trained and acclimated as as a hybrid player.I suspect the Pats plan will be:If Ryan or DMac are still around, trade out for a king's ransom. If not, take a CB. With Neal hurt on the OL, they could consider another OLman and they always are a threat to take a PURE defensive lineman. If they intend Gholston to stay as a down lineman, then maybe they would consider him. If they hope he converts to LB full time, I doubt it.

*cough* chicken legs *cough*With all the good RB's in this draft, this pick just makes me want to puke....no offense to you at all, as it's looking more and more likely with the pace signing.

Okay, since the Jets pick was painfully obvious...

I'm going to be sick when the Pats land Gholston.
Not happening here. :excited:
McKelvin huh?
Close.7. New England Patriots (from San Francisco) - Mike Jenkins, CB - USF

Asante Samuel and the underrated Randall Gay gone in the same offseason? Ouch. Where before this pick may have been viewed a luxury, now it's a necessity. Jenkins is a little more physical than McKelvin but either would be a good selection here.

People are right when they talk about the Pats bypassing Gholston for a number of reasons. He's not terrific in stopping the run and is stiff in pass coverage. He can get after the QB though. But I don't think that's what the Pats want from the #7 overall.

I will be absolutely shocked if Dorsey lasts this long. Strangers things have happened and occasionally blue-chippers like Suggs fall, but Dorsey is a BEAST. If he lasts to #7 Pats will pick him in a heartbeat.

I would be stunned if the Pats went CB here with Dorsey and/or Gholston on the board. If they want to take a CB with their first pick, they'll trade down.

True, but that's not all bad. I've said it before but the guy he reminds me of most is former Viking RB Robert Smith. And once he figured out that he didn't have to pound a guy for an extra yard, he became a top-notch back.

Any chance they reach and take Rogers-Cromartie??? Word out of the combine was he had the best natural skills and speed. And we know B.B. loves him some talent in the secondary.

OK, put me on record as saying the Pats WON'T go CB at #7. The amount of guaranteed money you shell out at that slot isn't that far off what they would have needed to retain Samuel. Why would the Pats give those guaranteed $$$ to an unproven rookie over a Pro Bowler.

Could be. But like has been pointed out, their front three are all re-signed for a long time.Yes they could very well trade down.

because they have to give that money to the #7 anyway, and they didn't want to do it for 2 players?

Maybe. I think the three top CBs are all pretty close.

I'm not sure that's true. How much guaranteed did the #7 get last year?Regardless, I know the Pats would love to trade out of that spot. But I'm not sure who would trade up and for what player.

Guys say this all the time. If they don't like it, they'll trade down. Problem is, who's going to want to move up to #7 by giving up draft picks/players only to have to pay more to a top 10 guy? How often do we see this happening in the top 10? Rarely.

I think Gholston is the pick here. He's an instant difference maker and the Patriots love HUGE linebackers who are converted college D-Linemen. They need to improve their speed in the middle of the defense. Gholston reminds me of a more versatile Willie McGinest. He's actually a great fit for the Pats at #7.

I believe Adrian Peterson got $17 million guaranteed over 6 years, but the 6th is a dummy year. Asante signed for $20 million guaranteed over 6 years. Again, if the Pats were going to commit to that kind of money for a CB, they'd have ponied up for the devil they knew. I firmly believe that.

i think i've made my mcfadden thoughts well known, so i wont re-hash theh. however, he better be a whole lot better than robert smith to justify taking him with 2 good RB's already on board, the deepest RB draft in a decade and other holes to fill. Gotta remember that this pick also relegates leon W. to strictly KR duty. he has the ability to contribute way more than that.

You beat the Patriots with pass rushers. That was painfully obvious in the super bowl. The jets need to follow that blue print.

I'm absolutely praying for a dallas trade down.

Is there anyone who isn't terrified of trading with Belichick? Is there anyone in the league that want's to be the next guy steamrolled by that friggin braniac? I suppose satan1 in Dallas could trade with satan2 in New England.

You're missing the point: The Patriots have never felt that DB as a position is worth shelling out premium money. They've proven it with Ty Law and Asante Samuel. They've believed in COACHING UP the defensive backfield rather than overpaying for individuals. For me, a big hint was the Pats bringing in Dom Capers this year.

Btw, this mock is set up perfectly to let Dorsey fall to the Ravens. I swear, everyone raves about the job Ozzie does, but it seems like almost every year a talent falls into their laps. It happened with Suggs, Jamal, Heap, Reed ... it's something about their draft spot bc the year they traded up to take Boller (see, they need guys to fall to them!) and gave next year's first to NE, NE used that pick on Wilfork who inexplicably fell. Had Baltimore not traded it would have been their traditional kismet first rounder.

8. Baltimore Ravens - Vernon Gholston, OLB - Ohio St.

Fortunately for them they got Jared Gaither in the supplimental draft since Ogden may retire. That move allows them to use this pick on another area of need - getting to the QB. I agree it's likely that Gholston goes higher. But if he fell here, the Ravens would pounce.

McKelvin is an option in light of Rolle and McAlister being on the decline, and deficiencies in the depth really exposed when they were injured.

I have come to agree that Dorsey would not be a good fit in the 3-4.

At this point I believe Marvin Lewis himself is doing back flips to the podium to get the Bengals pick in as fast as possible.

Are teams ever going to learn not to get fleeced letting NE trade down?
Actually, NE got hammered last year in the press and on these boards for:Trading a second and a 7th for Welker. (He's a nice player and a decent slot guy but come on)Only getting a first and a fourth for the first rounder that they traded to SF.Trading their third round pick to Oakland for Oakland's third this year and seventh in 07.

awesome work so far Andy. crap this is going to suck when you stop at 10 today.......Keep going. :pickle: not like I am going to get to see a Browns pick for a while though.

Actually two of the front three are signed for only two more years, and I don't think there is any way they can sign both of them. Someone with offer Seymour a monster contract that NE won't/can't match.

This pick craps all over my hopes that Antwan Barnes comes on strong. But Balt. is always a D first team, and the pick fits oh so well.

Don't get all in a huff David. I understand that. I am a NE fan. However, the general consensus was that they overpaid for Welker and should have gotten the deal that the Cowboys got (when many people thought the Cleveland pick was a 10) for their first rounded. Many thought that future 1 and a four seemed like a steal for the up and coming 49ers.

Is 10 minutes between new picks long enough? Should I go faster?

I knew the NE pick would cause a fuss. Predicting what they'll do always does.

9. Cincinnati Bengals - Glenn Dorsey, DT - L.S.U.

They've tipped their hand quite a bit considering the attempted acquisition of both Shaun Rogers and Dwayne Robertson. Questions that they may switch to the 3-4 were likely answered when they tried to trade Dewayne Robertson, who was NOT a fit for the same scheme for the Jets.

Many will say that Dorsey shouldn't fall this far, and I agree. But like was said before, he has similar injury concerns that Alan Branch had last year and Branch was also talked about as a top 5 pick in the run up to the draft.

:lmao: I felt that way about Ngata as well.I wanted him for the Jets but, the Jets picked 4 that year and other than Mario Williams, I thought Ngata was the guy but, everyone said "Reach" at 4..... D'Brick turned out to be exactly as advertised hopefully with a better upside to come.

Dorsey's loss in his drop is Cinci's gain. He will help this defense alot. :lmao:

They did give up a late round pick to move up one spot to guarantee getting Ngata, so he technically didn't fall to their draft spot.

That's not quite apples-to-apples. Pre-injury Dorsey was talked about as the consensus #1 if he came out. Even post-injury he was talked about as the #1 overall. Branch never sniffed his pedigree.FWIW, not to hijack, but here's how you stack up thus far to Mel who released his latest mock today:

Code:
1 Miami Dolphins Chris Long, DE Virginia 2 St. Louis Rams Glenn Dorsey, DT LSU 3 Atlanta Falcons Matt Ryan, QB Boston College 4 Oakland Raiders *Darren McFadden, RB Arkansas 5 Kansas City Chiefs Jake Long, OT Michigan 6 New York Jets *Vernon Gholston, DE Ohio St. 7 New England Patriots (from SF) Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB Tennessee St. 8 Baltimore Ravens Sedrick Ellis, DT USC
