Anger Management Strategies (1 Viewer)

It's only 9:30 and I'm already teed up after a long, mostly nonsensical argument about money, and some **** cheese at my job who probably makes twice what I do (and who works in sales) that can't even read a projection spreadsheet.

What are your effective strategies at cooling down and not letting anger control you? Preferrably something that could be done in 5-10 minutes (EG I love canoeing as a general stress reliever but I can't throw the canoe on the car and drive down to the river every time I get pissed).

Although I stopped smoking weed on a regular basis in 1982, that might not be a bad place to start.

I think it helps to have a healthy superiority complex. When I get into arguments with stupid people, I figure I have two options. Crush them with logic and run circles around them, or feel sympathetic, concede and walk away. I find myself doing the latter more and more as I get older. I only have so many calories to burn each day, no sense wasting them. Also, I generally don't give a #### what anybody thinks other than my boss and a handful family members or close friends.

Serious answer: along the lines of "Actually just posting the question helped a little.", it is sometimes helpful to write it out. Like type a letter to the person who is pissing you off, and detail why they're ####ed in the head. Probably shouldn't put that in an email and hit send (especially a co-worker), as the nuclear option should be employed sparingly. But writing out the conflict helps you get clarity. Sometimes you see there point, or you reinforce why you were right. Might help you the next time you're in the situation. But mostly it allows you to vent (albeit passive aggressively), and that does feel better.

Or just post here. We're always up for being entertained helpful.

I've had this idea for a long time but I doubt it will ever be adopted -- human punching bags. Murderers, rapists, child molesters, etc. would be brought to a public arena and ordinary citizens would be allowed to beat the living crap out of them. Great outlet for folks with anger issues, and finally some real punishment for society's worst offenders. There is literally nothing wrong with this idea at all.

Some good stuff in here. Weed and alcohol currently off the table for a little while. And I already worked out.

I like writing it out approach. Rubbing one out is good too.

As to cute animals link, that is actually proven to work as our brains release endorphins the engender feelings of compassion when we see babies of any type.

When I need a break I go here. Always something to put a smile on my face.

You need to refocus your anger and punch a coworker you're not upset with.

If you cant tell, humor is the answer. If I get out of control I step away and take a look here or listen to a podcast or whatever it may be. Humor instantly kills my anger.
