ANNOUNCED: 2015 Footballguys Players Championship (1 Viewer)

Alex - FFPC

Footballguy
Last year, as a result of moving to a brand new league management platform, we didn't open FPC registrations until end of April. This year, most of those development issues are well behind us and the "Death Star" is operational well ahead of schedule!

The 2015 Footballguys Players Championship (FPC) is now open for the 2015 season.

Once again, we are awarding a guaranteed $2 million prize pool, which again joins the 2015 FFPC Main Event as the largest ever in a season-long fantasy contest. Draft schedule is already up with the first draft scheduled for Sunday, July 5th. Here are bullet points of all the FPC goodies.....

  • FPC Grand Prize of $300,000.
  • Championship round total prizes will pay down to 650th place.
  • Championship round cash prizes are paid down to 150th place.
  • 250 free 2016 FPC teams for places 151st to 400th, each valued at $350.
  • Footballguys lifetime & three-year subscriptions awarded from 401 to 650th place.
  • League prizes are $2,000, with $1,500 for first place and $500 for second.
  • Contest entries are capped at 7,500 teams and all prizes are guaranteed.
  • Entire prize pool placed in escrow.
  • Online drafts will take place daily, beginning on Sunday, July 5th and run all the way thru Thursday, September 10th.
  • The entry fee remains the same at $350 per team, with a 3-pack of teams for $1,000 ($50 discount).
As always, we have the early bird incentive. Register before Tuesday, June 30th, 2015 and receive a complimentary subscription to Footballguys.com Insider membership ($29.95 value). Purchase a 3-pack of FPC teams for $1,000 and receive a complimentary 3-year subscription ($64.95 value). If you already have a Footballguys.com Insider membership, the complimentary years will be added to the end of your current subscription. A maximum of 3 year subscription will be awarded per person regardless of FPC teams purchased by early bird deadline.

We know that many of you already have a FBG subscription due to a past early bird promotion or by winning a lifetime one in the Championship Round. We are working on a new early bird promotion for 2016 but for now, if you have an extra FBG subscription, you are welcome to transfer it to a friend or loved one as a gift. Just let us know when you register and we will certainly help you facilitate that.

There is one major change for 2015 in a form of a new rule:

NEW FOR 2015: After discussing with FPC players, we are instituting a new preseason free agency rule this season. For all FPC leagues drafted on or before Thursday, September 3rd, there will now be a single preseason free agency process on Friday, September 4th at 10:00 p.m. ET. So feel free to draft early everyone. You'll have a preseason waiver wire to scoop up any players that make a name for themselves during the exhibition season. (For all leagues drafted on or after Friday, September 4th, the first free agency period will take place after the NFL's Week 1 has concluded, as in the previous seasons.)

Also, if you have won a free entry into the 2015 FPC in last year's contest, these entries are now on your MyTeams page in a form of a "credit". Simply to go your MyTeams page, click the REDEEM button and proceed with your registration. If you have any questions on this or any other topic, please email me or Chris Lambert at chris@myffpc.com

2015 NFL Schedule is out and surprise! No more bye weeks in Week 12 which is the first week of league playoffs in the Footballguys Players Championship.

Do you approve or have you already gotten used to this wrinkle the last few years?

I approve,it gives the complainers in here one less thing to complain about.

Unless they complain about NOT having a bye in week 12.

You killed one of the best things you had going in that league, no waivers until week two. Draft right or gamble, your choice. That waiver move before the season starts is an extremely weak cop out to all the crying last year. Just my opinion.

We asked the critics, both before and after confirming the new pre-season waivers to tell us how exactly does this hurt the contest and no one could give a reason so to me this seems like a matter of preference. Some liked it the way it was. Others like it the way it is now. In the end, the pre-season waivers gives owners MORE control over their destiny and we believe that's a good thing. It also gives owners more confidence to draft early in the summer which is also a good thing. This was the basis for the decision but as it always is with fantasy football, opinions will vary and we understand that.

For one it lessens the already thin pool of FA's. More WR,RB and TE will be drafted and less K,D and QB because there will always be decent FA's out there in those position when you don't have to back them up to start the season. So you are devaluing the drafting back ups of K,D, and QB's. I thought you had good balance before and no to me the balance switches to gambling on long shots at the skill positions, which you had a ton of already in these leagues.

I agree in some sense with your observation of the waiver wire bing thinner than usual for the 1st week of waivers but disagree that this will have negative implications. I don't want to toss out strategy hints on how the pre-season waiver can be benefitial but I know that it will be, and I expect owners to take advantage. Again, our opinion is that more control (which this gives owners) makes for a better experience in the FPC.

We can go back and forth on who likes the pre-season waivers and who doesn't but it's not a radically new idea. Most FF eagues that draft in July or August almost always offer pre-season waivers and I have never heard that be an issue. Let's just see how this plays out and discuss it then.

I respect player's opinions but I wouldn't call 4-5 posters on the message board as an entirety of "FFPC entrants". I've said numerous times that we are OK with not everyone liking it and my job isn't to force you to like it. There are a lot of other items about the FPC format that aren't beloved by all and I can't force you to like those either. I simply explained why we made this choice and now the pre-season free agency has been announced and put into the contest rules. I offered this up for a debate a few months ago and received less than a handful of responses, none of which gave a compelling reason why this is bad for the contest. We also got feedback from some of our veteran players off-line and the decision was made. Now it's no longer a debate, at least not for 2015 season.
