Anonymous Begins Publishing Ku Klux Klan Member Details Online

Hacktivist group Anonymous has begun publishing the personal details of members of the Ku Klux Klan as its campaign of cyberwar against the white supremacist group escalates.

Anonymous, the amorphous online activist collective, last week promised to reveal the identity of 1,000 members of the KKK after coming into possession of the private information through a compromised Twitter account associated with the group.

The details published on Sunday and Monday are only a small portion of the total information, and include email addresses and phone numbers which the hacktivist group claims belong to members of the KKK. Anonymous hackers have so far published four separate listings on text-sharing website Pastebin, including 57 phone numbers and 23 email addresses.

There has been no verification of the details so far, but Anonymous has vowed to reveal the full identities of up to 1,000 members of the KKK Thursday, Nov. 5 to coincide with the group’s global protest movement, called the Million Mask March. International Business Times has attempted to call several of the numbers on the list, but none have connected so far.

Some official KKK Twitter accounts have reacted angrily to publication of members’ details, with one suggesting the white supremacist group carry out its own rally on Nov. 5 alongside Anonymous' Million Mask March.

Anonymous and the KKK have been battling it out in cyberspace for almost a year, ever since the protests in Ferguson when a local chapter of the Klan weighed into the debate by warning that it would use “lethal force” against anyone protesting on the streets of Ferguson. In response, Anonymous took control of the official Twitter account of the KKK chapter and published details of some members’ identities. The group also claimed evidence of a connection between the Ferguson police and the KKK.

In its statement addressed to the members of the KKK, Anonymous didn’t pull any punch in its assessment of the group: “After closely observing so many of you for so very long, we feel confident that applying transparency to your organizational cells is the right, just, appropriate and only course of action. You are abhorrent. Criminal. You are more than extremists. You are more than a hate group. You operate much more like terrorists and you should be recognized as such.”

Will they cross reference the list with the Ashley Madison list? Can they find the NAMBLA membership list and cross reference with that as well?

The KKK seems so irrelevant in this day and age. Anytime I see anything about them they look like a bunch of inbred welfare recipients drinking beer in the woods. It's not like the days when cops, judges and politicians were active members. Any self-respecting white supremacist should be ashamed of the KKK.

Guess we'll find out.

Yeah, that's the larger issue at hand. I think Anonymous is alluding to the fact that there are members of the police force in the KKK.

these are the officials that have political power in the usa that are associated with either kkk or racist related. addresses will not be released so nobody gets it in their mind to take out their own justice against them.

I'm sure there will be some, mostly older folks who have been there for 40 years or whatever. But in terms of raw power on a state scale, I doubt it amounts to much.

Heritage...not hate.

Probably gonna a bunch of old people who have been mailing donations of $10 a year to what they thought was some rotary club who are gonna be pissed!

This is going to make Jim Gray's interviews of boxers and basketball players a little bit (more) awkward

How would anyone prove that they don't belong on the list? I mean, they are kind of screwed even if it is in error.

Update on the story linked in the OP:

The list of four senators and five city mayors is completely unverified and the official Operation KKK Twitter account has distanced itself from the listing saying: "We won't release names without due diligence. We discourage the circulation of disinformation and will not promote an unverifiable list of politicians."
The list included my state's senior senator and the mayor of the city where I work.

Maybe I'm naive, but I have a hard time imagining that any currently-serving senator belongs to the KKK. Nobody is really that stupid, right?

Lexington Mayor Jim Gray - this one seems odd - he is openly gay. I would have thought that would have been frowned up by the KKK.

Donald Trump is the leading GOP candidate...you're asking about the level of stupidity in this country? ;)

Yeah, I'm not sure how close to the sun some of these people are. Maybe they just experimented with racism in college but are over that phase now?

Yeah, just came to post that:

Gray, a 62-year-old Democrat, has been in politics or served as an elected official since the age of 19. He is in his second mayoral term and has also served as vice mayor of Lexington. In 2005, he publicly came out as gay ahead of his first bid for mayor, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Allegations of a connection to the KKK appeared to be completely new for the Kentucky official. Gray's name, along with other politicians, appeared in a video previewing what Anonymous planned to release.

Maybe some of them thought they were joining the Kit Kat Klub. It's an honest mistake and who doesn't love Kit Kats?

Or even having a conscious indirect association to the group. Not in 2015. Something isn't right here.

Like the English dabbling in homosexuality in their all male preparatory schools?

Surprised they're letting an Indian in....I thought you had to be white to be in the KKK.
Fort Wayne has a mayoral election TOMORROW (although early voting has been open for a couple of weeks). Will be interesting to see if this gets any play locally.

So one question- how do you know they are members versus someone doing research etc?
you sweatin a bit today?
He's asking for a friend.

I have no sympathy for KKK members but it would really suck for someone who somehow ends up on whatever list they are hacking and is outed as being a member when really they are not. I assume this will also be the angle many who are outed take to exlain why they are on whatever list. How would you really be able to tell the difference? Unless Anonymous hacked into some actual membership list- such as dues record keeping or something along those lines.

Yeah, shouldn't they have to show their work? Especially with regards to the openly gay mayor of Lexington. Always thought the KKK looked own on homosexuality, but maybe it's a new era.
