Another DeSean Jackson Post... (1 Viewer)

So in the league I've been running since the 90's (live draft, 12 teams, PPR), one of the guys took DeSean Jackson with his 8th round pick, and was boasting that he'd catch at least 70 passes this year (after a relentless thrashing by the entire league for taking him so high).

So the two of us made a bet: $1 per reception (I have the under). Best case scenario, I win $69. If he has 70+ catches, I owe him whatever he ends up with in terms of receptions.

I thought it was an absolute sucker bet before the season started. Now? A bit worried...

So the question is, how many receptions do you think he ends up with???

I think if he doesn't get hurt he will probably get a tad over 70. He's averaging 5.5 receptions a game thus far & with Curtis coming back may drop a bit to 4.5 or something like that. That would put him at about 75 or so. I doubt he has much more than 70 so you shoudn't owe your buddy much either way. What if he gets hurt? is the bet only valid if he plays all 16 games?

I forgot to mention that - if he misses more than 3 games due to injury, the bet is off. But if he was suspended (or benched) for a game for any reason, that doesn't count as a game missed...

You're giving me flashbacks to last year's draft in one league, when some guy "wasted" his early 3rd round pick on R Moss, then talked a bunch of trash about how he was going to bounce back...great year, etc, etc.

We wound up making a bet that included yardage & TD totals for the season. Guess how that turned out?

I think he had already won the bet by week 10... :wall:

Yeah, it's not about the cash - a lot of guys in the league have known each other since we were in elementary school (we're all in our 30's now), so it's much more bragging rights than anything else...

Seems like an odd way for you to get paid. It should have been $1 per reception that he is under 70 if 70 was the cutoff point. So if he finishes with 50 receptions, you should get $20, not $50.But, it's your bet.

I thought the bet was that way too, but after rereading it (especially the highlighted section) I'm not so sure. Unless the highlighted section was supposed to end with an assumed "over 70."In any case, it should be close.

Let me restate it. If he has less than 70 catches, then I win, with the $$ winnings being equal to the # of catches. If he has 70 or more, the same is true, but for the other guy (i.e. if he has 70 catches, I owe him $70, if he has 80 catches I owe him $80, etc.)...

Sounds like you got screwed when the bet was made...

If hits 70 rec, you owe $70, plus $1 for every reception after that.

If he barely misses with 69 rec, you get $69.

But if he totally flops with say 35 rec & you win the bet easily, you only get $35?

If the other guy gets what he gets, you should be getting $70 + $1 for every rec Jackson is below 70.

Not to hijack, but I also took a bet with a buddy involving Desean...

He bet me $20 that Royal will outscore Desean in fantasy points through week 13.

Our league scoring for WR is 0.1pt/yd, 1ppr, and 6pts/td

All bets are off if either of them gets injured and has to miss 1 full game...

You made a very bad bet.... you basically are rooting for him to get 69 catches to maximize your profits... he crosses 70 and you are toast.I think you could be in trouble.... u need reggie and kevin back in the lineup

But given the fact that very few rookie WR's get 70+ catches in a year (I think there has been something like 5 or 6 since 1991), and the fact that only 2 WR's (T.O. and Curtis) have had 70+ receptions since McNabb has been QB in Philly, there's no way he would have made the bet under those circumstances, not to mention the fact that when Curtis/Brown came back from injury, he probably wouldn't get as many looks.I took the risk that I'd be paying out more if he reaches 70+, but he took the risk that it is very improbable that Jackson would reach that plateau...

the odds of both of these guys playing every single game through week 13 is probably around 10%
