Another Detroit Lions failure, this time from the front office. (1 Viewer)

Some Detroit fans opened their mailboxes on Monday and saw something unusual mixed in with their Christmas cards: Lions playoff tickets.

One problem: The Lions were eliminated from playoff contention on Sunday.

The Lions began selling playoff tickets when they were in first place in the NFC North late in the season, and the team mailed out some of the tickets last week. Now those tickets are collector’s items, worthy of a place alongside the Lions’ 2013 calendar as a memento of what a lousy existence it is to be a Lions fan.

Fans who bought playoff tickets will have the money credited toward their 2014 season tickets. Of course, some fans will be so disgusted by the Lions’ late-season collapse that they no longer want 2014 season tickets.

Between the Lions ineptitude starting with the coach, the Bears continuing to throw Cutler out there and expecting different results, and the Vikings completely falling on their faces... It's GREAT to be a Packer fan

Even without 2 of our starting 1st round pick offensive linemen, one of the best LBs in the game, playing practice squad caliber guys at safety, without a league MVP at QB, our biggest weapon at WR, and with the softest DLine in the division... With all that, still the lions can't win the division and the bears might fall short too.

Can someone tell me why the coach pulled Bush after one fumble?
How much time you got?
When Bush plays they win, simple as that. I'd fire the coach.
The last time the Detroit Lions had a coach with a winning record, Nixon was PotUS and South Vietnam was a country. That coach (HoFer Joe Schmidt) quit out of frustration after six seasons. The other 12 full-time coaches hired by WCF walked away with a losing record.

Lack of accountability is a hallmark of the half century the Ford family has controlled the Lions. I'm not convinced 1) they will fire Schwartz, incredible as that may seem to outsiders, and 2) it will make any difference. The franchise mirrors the metropolis: it's broke, it has been for a long time, and it's an unsolvable riddle. In that sense, they're the perfect team for Motown. A hopeless place represented by a hapless football team.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

In all seriousness, that team has talent. The right coach should be a difference maker. But it's never happened in my lifetime, and I'm only a few years from retirement.

Team is loaded with talent - The right coach makes them an instant contender.

... and never had another head coaching job again.

True fact for all 13 at the NFL level. Bobby Ross did go on to coach at Army, the first (& only) former Lions coach in the last 55 years to take another HC job.

1 playoff win in over 50 years, nuff said!

My very first Lion memory is 1970 Tom Dempsey 63 yard field goal to beat them. Over the years nothing has changed, reaffirmed watching Tucker beat them on Monday Night Football :help:

I grew up in the Barry Sanders era. Wayne Fontes coached that team into the ground every year and he lasted forever. I'm not convinced Schwartz is gone. Look how long Millen lasted. The Ford's are an embarrassment.

Ford likes outdated useless stuff.
