I know this year he has an expanded role but will be catching more passes this year? What are your projections?
I think he will. The Steelers will get him the ball in space to make best use of his speed. He had a few nice plays last season on little dump offs.I know this year he has an expanded role but will be catching more passes this year? What are your projections?
True, but so far in his limited preseason appearances they've been throwing to FWP on 1st & 2nd downs a lot more than Steeler fans are used to.As I recall they primarily use Haynes on 3rd down
Agreed. That is why I will not draft fwp this year. I had him last year and watched all the pitt games and his role was limited. (no third down, no short yardage) If he gets goaline carries (I guess he is supposed to) then he could be nice value, but if he loses that role becuase of his size, I really would not consider him a top 15 rb. I think whether or not he will be used in short yardage is still a question mark. Certainly does not have the ideal size and cower is not afraid to use a specialist at the goaline. I remember drafting staley two years ago thinking he would get all the work and was unpleasantly surprised.Historically, the Steelers have never used their RBs much in the passing game. Add to that the fact that Haynes is the 3rd down back and I don't see Parker catching a lot of balls this year.
Um how?He didn't have GL carries last year, and he didn't catch many passes and his role was limited, yet he finished in the Top 15.Agreed. That is why I will not draft fwp this year. Yeah I know, talking rankings. I have 15 backs that I would take ahead of him including bush and a healthy westbrook. I don't disagree with these posts, and the third down back being Haynes hurts his totals without question. However, if Roethlisberger is asked to put more of the offense on his arm, I think Parker will see an uptick in the receiving department.Consider the AFC playoffs in which the Steelers came out throwing. In those three games, Parker collected 9 receptions for 80 yards and a TD. Not exactly huge numbers, but solid. Specifically, Parker was targeted on screen passes to the left, including the first TD against the Bengals in the Wild Card game. In SB XL, however, he only had 1 catch for 1 yard.Still, over a season, this pace would produce 40 catches, 324 yards, 4 TDs, adding 3-4 ppg in standard leagues and roughly 6 in ppr leagues. If you think the Steelers will pass more in 2006 than they did in 2005, then I think it's reasonable to expect numbers not far off from those listed above, 40-320-4. You can decide for yourself whether or not this is likely and how it affects your ranking of Parker.Agreed. That is why I will not draft fwp this year. Even in a ppr league he's in the top 15. In non ppr he's top 10.Yeah I know, talking rankings. I have 15 backs that I would take ahead of him including bush and a healthy westbrook. according to your ability to see into the future? I don't have fwp in my top 15. If he is in yours, fine. Had him last year, watched all pitt games, did not impress me. Broke some long runs at the end of the year, (had a nice start) to improve his stats but I personally would rather draft d.foster or J.lewis over him. Just my humble opinion. I understand the argument that if he was top 15 without goaline then he should be a steal with them(and if I new for sure I would put him there) but I just think cower likes to use a lot of running backs.Even in a ppr league he's in the top 15. He had a lofty 12.1 YPC on his 18 catches last season. I think it is reasonable to project 30 catches for 250-300 yards and 2-3 scores. His speed is the X factor though because he could really break off some long plays in the passing game.I don't disagree with these posts, and the third down back being Haynes hurts his totals without question. Good posts. I may be rethinking. I think 50 receptions is out of the question however.Last year:I know this year he has an expanded role but will be catching more passes this year? What are your projections?
Catch 4: 1
Catch 3: 0
Catch 2: 4
Catch 1: 6
Catch 0: 4
========
Total: 18
He sat out a game, that's why there are only 15 total games above.
If the 3rd preseason game is any indication, then yes Parker will get more catches this year. In the very short time he was in the game, he caught 3 passes. More than all but one game last year.
It only makes sense to me that they are going to tweak the offense to his strengths now they had a season with him and an offseason to play. And getting him out in open space has got to be a good thing. I would feel pretty confident say that he will at least double his catches to 36. I think that 45-50 catches is what I am expecting as a FWP owner.
