Another school shooting sigh Edit - looks like more than school (1 Viewer)

  a lot of people.  It is not that difficult.
I disagree.

ETA: if you want to ban those i am all for it.  There is no reason to have that other than being an idiot or killing.  Neither should be the goal of a responsible gun owner.  My father is able to own and sell fully auto guns.  I completely disagree with both.

Thank you for clarifying.  In my head I knew what I was saying.   I'm not sure why people want to argue wording and not the points though.
because it is important.  If you ban semi-auto weapons do you know what that means?  A huge portion of the market is semi- auto.

Don’t be silly. Of course it does. These people might be stupid in everyday life, but they aren’t stupid about what they are doing when it comes to this. If it didn’t make a difference, they’d be walking in with something else.
Do you think that “they” would give up and go home if they didn’t have an ar-15?  I don’t.

How many lives do you think are taken by ar-15's vs other platforms?  Enough to put your stake in the ground and make it a policy.  My thought is that if you are going make a policy change this large and debated, is this what you are really going to rest your hat on?  I disagree.  I don't think banning ar-15's makes a bit of difference in these type of events.
It's worth a shot.

How much of the market is the civilian version (same round, same muzzle velocity)  of the rifle the US military has used for the last 55 years or so?

I don’t want to derail the topic of this post and I apologize if I have started too.  We can take the debate to the proper thread if you don’t mind.  Please tag me there so we can discuss further.

This animal tried to get into an elementary school. And couldn’t. Glad he’s deader than dead. I don’t care how “mentally ill” he was.

Be dead, dead ####er.

People have a better chance at responding when bullets aren't flying at 180 rounds per second/30 rounds per magazine.
In NY we only get it with no flash free muzzle, no pistol grips, a rifle stock, and 10 round magazines.  The mass slaughter of innocents takes way longer :kicksrock:

Honestly, this is such a cliche...do you have a solution that would actually work?

ETA:  guns will never be banned in this country so then what?  I am an avid gun owner that would be okay with additional regulation however, i am sure i am in the minority.
It may take decades, but it's inevitable.

In the same way it took a lot of years and effort to beat slavery out of the southern republicans, we’ll eventually ban automatic weapons over their objection, and then finally we’ll sink Florida into the Atlantic.

America 2.0 will be awesome.

The later would significantly help the prior occur faster.

How can we expedite this?

Have they said what specific guns he used? I read semi-automatic rifle and 2 handguns.  I believe California has a ban on what they have determined is "assault rifles" purchased after 1989 or something like that.  Plus no magazines over 10 rounds.

This just makes zero sense.  Based on your math a shooter would have to reload 6 times, while firing, per second to get to your 180 rounds per second.  The gun may be able to do it (i am tired of the debate so i wont look it up) but, it is physically impossible outside of your fantasy land.  Just stop.

I apologize for saying "per second" instead of "per minute".

Regardless of my mistake, nobody needs to unload 30 rounds in ten seconds unless they're in a war.

thanks for making such a great point?
Its sad that I have to spell it out for you, but here it is.

A guy walks into a room with 25 people in it. He's hellbent on killing everyone in there. If he has a weapon that is less efficient at killing the maximum amount people in the shortest possible time, the odds of more people walking out of that room increase. More people walking out means lives saved.

Does that help?

Authorities said law enforcement had a history with Neal and said he was out on bail for an assault with a deadly weapon arrest from January.

In my world, this guy is dead long before he ever gets this opportunity. He used up his chances long before this rampage. THAT is how you stop some of these incidents. This country needs to man up and say #### you bleeding hearts. Time for criminals to die.

Now blabber about the constitution and this guys rights. A constitution that was written having no idea that in todays world it is an archaic piece of paper. All it needs is some simple tweeks and guys like this are eliminated. 3 strikes is way more than enough to inform the masses that their criminal activities will come to an end.

I would have executed him long ago.

Never thought we’d see the day when LOD wanted to execute everyone that’s ever broken the law, but here we are.

Changing the Constitution to do such things could be the first step towards a very, very bad place.  It could cause a domino effect.

Dude started by killing his wife and hiding her body under the floor before he went on his rampage.

He was going on an absolute rampage. The reason he went to the school was because he knew he could do the most damage there.  He would've annihilated all those kids.  Whoever took the initiative to put the school on lockdown -- before any "official" word came in to do so -- is heroic and saved so, so many lives.

Also, kudos to the neighborhood guy who shouted something like "hey, why don't you shoot this way" (which occurred, and he got shot in the arm).  What an incredibly brave and selfless act.   :tebow:

You know that any semi auto hand gun can easily do this as well?  I can take from your comments that bolt action rifles and revolvers are your solution?  Unfortunately, i don't think this will fly with gun owners.

I've reached the point that I don't care what will fly with gun owners. It's a hobby that shouldn't be a hobby.

Much better coined than the first one thank you for clarifying.  We can agree to disagree but that's okay.

I think my neighbor is crazy and is going to shoot people!

Call back when he does.
Seriously... guy was clearly cueing up for something... LE ignored. All too often the case of ignoring red flags.

This reminds me that i need to go practice at the range more frequently.  There are too many whack jobs out there.
Indeed. New range opening walking distance from my office. Has a nice deli. 30 min range rental + sandwich lunch breaks will be a semi-weekly thing going forward I think.

The mental health system is completely broken.
Yyyyyyep :(

Start by banning the AR-15.
Not used here.

Gun used here already banned, didn’t work.

Guy already banned from owning gun, still got one.

Seriously. Though I go back and forth in wanting them to die gruesome deaths in prison, but this way saves tax dollars at least. #### this guy.

Totally normal dude here. Curious how he got these guns since they were already banned for him.

Horrible tragedy. All schools need to implant lock down systems and plans.... federal mandate by end of 2018. Subsidize it. NOW. This will help take the easy target off the backs of schools.

So a weapon of lesser efficiency, used in a the same scenario as a more efficient weapon doesn't decrease the odds of people dying? Interesting perspective.

I'll have to be honest with you. This is more about who's right and who's wrong as opposed to agreeing to disagree. So no, we won't agree to disagree. You'll be wrong, I'll be right. How's that sound?

The only way to do it is to ban the ownership and sale of all guns and ammo except for those issued to the military and law enforcement.  It'll take generations to get them out of circulation, but the alternative is to have more innocent people die needlessly just because some people have a hobby.

Okay then i disagree with you.  Give me a glock 17 or an AR-15 with a room full targets (actual paper targets please) and you will have the same result.  I will hit each target multiple times at roughly the same rate. The debate that the ar-15 is the end all for every crime is just stupid.

I agree. The negative direction we're currently headed in is massive. It's gone from yearly, to monthly, to weekly. It's getting close to daily and will soon be hourly.

Combating that direction will require much more drastic action than the gun owners are willing to allow. But it needs to be done. IT NEEDS TO BE DONE!

Gotta get rid of them all.

Please don't take this as being condensing i do not mean it to be but good luck with this.  There will never be a culture in the US that is okay without the right to own a gun.

In 2004 I was saying the same thing. Except I was saying "there will never be a culture in the US that is okay with gay marriage."

The pace that these mass shootings are increasing is accelerating the anti-gun position in our society. I used to be pro-gun. I've seen enough. Gun ownership days are numbered.

Gun groups need to make some sort of compromise soon or the tide will begin to turn with those on the fence going the way of stricter regulations/rules
