Another school shooting (1 Viewer)

Most of them (if not all, it was a bit ambiguous) were shot 3-10 times. He did use the assault rifle and apparently had the cartridges taped together so when the first ran out, he could flip it over and continue shooting.

Weird... he looks perfectly sane.

Everyone in that picture throws off some weird vibe.
Boy, talk about being in a picture that you hope never sees the light of day.
Who are we kidding. I bet a lot of FFAers were like those guys in HS.
I agree. Besides, most of those guys look normal to me, but Lanza does have that certain distant, doesn't fit in quality that many people have attributed to him.

That was more my main point. I have some weird pictures from school. Go back and look and you'll see how awkward some people look who are just normal now. Be interested to see if you told a bunch of people that one of them would grow up to be a mass murderer, if they could pin the guy. My overarching point is you really can't judge a book by its cover and I'm sure some of brightest minds in our computer industry who are very socially awkward have pictures like this.

From the article that photo came from...Another former classmate said Adam has been 'a weird kid since we were five years old.'

Tim Dalton wrote on Twitter: 'As horrible as this was, I can't say I am surprised.... Burn in hell, Adam.'

Wow this is a great father. Emilie Parker fund on Facebook.Don't go there if you don't want to cry.
I thought I had the ability to go there and keep composure. But I lost that bet. As a father of 4 kids aged 13 months, 6 yo, 8 yo and 11...I can't imagine this being real. I picked up 6 yo boy at school yesterday and all of the kids lined up in a row. Several parents were crying, kids oblivious to the emotions in the school lobby. I myself blinked back the tears as I hugged my son.

Seriously, Huckabee and Fischer are classless jackasses.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and to voice it. But seriously, the majority is not on your side, the constitution is not on your side, logic is not on your side.

Keep religion out of schools... its in black and white - no undue influence on society as to one day have a national religion, not complex at all, at the state level religion has absolutely no place, none - least of all in regards to education.
It was Fischer I was referring to. I didn't have a problem with Huckabee
Well that pretty much nullifies most of your compassion in this thread. If you don't have a problem with a pig like that doing something despicable, what does that say about you?
It says that I agree that as a culture we have lost the fear of God and respect for human life. Some of that is demonstrated by our systematic removal of any and all references to God in our schools, among other places.
Oink oink my good man,
Glad we can have a mature discussion about the differences in our worldview.
I don't find your position to be very mature or compassionate, so it was doomed from the start.

But that is playing Monday morning QB. How many kids do you remember that were weird in school? Should we lock them up? I just think people paint it too convenient that all these kids are trouble from the start and show these obvious signs. I'd bet there are kids like this at every school yet they aren't shooting up schools. I have no doubt that our mental health care needs some type of reform but this whole idea that these shooters are easily identifiable and so few just seems wrong. And the comment about "I can't say that I am surprised," I'd feel at least somewhat responsible then if there was a kid I wasn't surprised was going to shoot up a school and I didn't do anything or speak up..

Wonder if the coolness factor of commenting on this (Dalton) would be so cool if they arrested him for being an accessory.

I can honestly say that there is not one person that I have known or know now that wouldn't be a surprise if they murdered children. I would assume most people would say the same. Even the worst of the people we meet throughout our lives put a child's life on a different level. That's what makes this so disgusting.

On the same note, I knew a lot of so-called weird people. Heck, I was one. I used to play Magic at lunch with guys that wore capes. I used to play D and D with guys that made their own swords. Just because someone has different interests doesn't make them a risk.

By the way this family was really well off fimancially. Big home, dad was a big shot at GE.
This pisses me off even more.
WTF? why does that matter?
How dare the family be well-to-do and have a miscreant as a son.
Not blaming the family, blaming him.
Think the point is that this isn't some kid that was bounced around from foster home to foster home...he had advantages, a support system, and presumably the opportunity to seek help. It makes the act even more senseless in that this isn't a situation where you're dealing with someone with no options in life. Of course, nuts is nuts and money doesn't buy a rational, reasoning mind.

Combine that with a username of "eviloutsider" and we might have someone to put on a watch list.

funny how differently these threads go when the shooter isn't an nfl player.

wonder if there'll be a montage of this guy before sunday's games.

has ministry of pain been in here yet to feel sorry for the guy?

Since I haven't heard anything about it since, can I assume that 4chan screenshot posted yesterday was faked?
The story has hit the mainstream media, but I don't see any resolution yet.

I'm still sick about this, but also sick about what I'm sure will be done to turn schools more into prisons. Over the last decade, we've already put automatic locks on school doors, had cops at many schools everyday, put metal detectors in place at many, and on and on and this still happens. When will we decide that the problems can't be fixed by more traditional security means? There is some societal / cultural problem(s) here that is causing people to lash out at the world like this. That is what needs to be addressed.

This is what I meant. Sorry, this is tough topic for me to deal with since I not only have a 4 yo daughter but she's also on the autism spectrum and goes to school with some other ASD kids. It's really hard to stomach that some kid with what seems like everything he needs in life would kill so many innocent children. Not that being disadvantaged would justify doing something like this in any way but it would at least be something more than just being mentally ill. In no way do I blame the parents though as I'm sure they never saw this coming.

I'm trying to stay away from this story, but a few questions:

1. Who was the guy they arrested in the woods? Seems like that disappeared

2. What was his connection to the school? His mom wasn't a teacher there though she might have been a susbtitute (I heard she retired to take care of her son), but apparently the loser had a run in with four school employees (three were killed) a few days before. Was he shooting guns in the wood? Being a perv to the little kids?

Simply trying to figure out why this school.

Apparently the Westboro Baptist Church is planning to picket the funerals of all the children. These ####ers need to be taught a lesson.

Huh?
Yesterday afternoon someone posted a screenshot of a post on 4chan from Thursday night by someone basically saying he was going to shoot up a school in Connecticut on Friday (I forget exactly how it was worded). Figure it was faked but I hadn't heard anything about it since it was posted here.

Just heard Geraldo ask what Christmas in Newtown will be like in years to come; I hope something wonderful. I can't convey what a great town this is. Newtown has one of the best Halloween celebrations that you can imagine and children come from all over Connecticut and even New York to go there. I guess it would be foolish to hope that it maintains its innocence but I would hope it retains its quaint qualities.

think I had read that he went to that school, but I don't remember.

I thought that was a satire site -- why do they protest at all these funerals?
Publicity.
what are they protesting -- death?there's a pic in a thread I saw earlier where some college students formed a human wall to keep them out of some vet's funeral.

I believe that they are protesting the godlessness that promotes homosexuality, IIRC.

They protest funerals to make a point about USA moral decline or some other bull####.

With the soldiers it's because, in their minds, they are fighting to protect a morally bankrupt nation.

Don't know how these tragedies tie into that warped reasoning though.

Not surprising at all. Someday someone's gonna lose it on one of these idiots.
Shows you the intelligence of these nuts. Even most of the gun rights activists were smart enough to realize to pipe down. Heck, if I just lost my kid to senseless violence and you want to trample on their funeral as if they did something wrong, I'd probably take it into my own hands. And I think you'd have a hard time finding a jury anywhere let alone Newtown to convict the guy. For their own safety, I'd hope the cops stepped in.

Yeah, that explains the military b/c after the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," they said the deaths were God's way of punishing them. To protest this, I would assume it would be along the lines of, "See what happens when you take religion out of schools." Either way this is sickening.

I'm not surprised by this incident. Our society allows cigarettes. Guns just makes the process faster. Think of it that way.

We, as a society, are allowing these companies to make violent shooting games. I'm looking at you Activision and EA.

It started with the game Doom in 1993 and school shootings are just common occurrence now.

If I was video game designer and I released a school shooting game as freeware, what are these software game companies doing any different?

Sometimes these people want the real-life experience. Does anyone think porn is somewhat similar?

You will get blasted for this, but I'm convinced that video games play a role in some of these shootings.A mentally stable person isn't going to go shooting up a school after playing GRand Theft Auto. But a messed up person....just might lose their grip on reality and perform acts that they've done thousands of times before, only this time they do it for real. If your kid has any strange behaviors than as a parent you should definitely minimize te violence they are exposed to. Who knows if that had even a small part in this story or not. But if it came out that he played violent video games all the time, then it might have to be considered.

Listen, I agree with you. I'm just sharing news. I never said that all weird, nerdy, distant, loner high school kids grow up to be mass murders. Obviously, 99.9999999% don't. I'm just saying that (playing Monday Morning QB as you suggest) Lanza does look a bit more nerdy, loner, distant, weird than the other guys in the photo; that matches the decriptions that we're hearing in the media from former classmates and family friends; and he was so odd that former acquaintances aren't stunned to find out that he was the culprit.
