Another school shooting (2 Viewers)

Well, I have to turn off the tv and computer. I'm glad I got the chance to pick up my son from school today and be the first to explain this to him. Actually had a touching moment where he knew full well how much I love him. I'm going to church for a few and then to the gym to work out. Later on I plan to contact the local Red Cross and do some volunteer work. A lot of good deeds need to be done just to balance out this horrible evil. Take care everyone.

My wife called nearly in tears to tell me about this. As a parent of young children, it's totally impossible to wrangle with something like this. It's a really sick world.

T&P to those poor parents. I'd never survive something like this.
:goodposting: My wife (elementary school teacher) called me from work around 1:30 in tears, she had just heard about it.

You're right, I never understand how people survive something like this. If something like this happened to my son, I honestly think I'd kill myself. The only thing that would keep me going is if I had another child, I'd have no choice but to be strong for them. Ugh.
My daughter (1st grade) and my wife (1st grade teacher) are in the same school building. Things like this hit extra hard in my personal hypothetical meter.

Now both the facebook ryan lanza and twitter ryan lanza have posted since this happened, really weird
Where are you seeing the facebook? I just tried looking at it again and it looks like the page has been deleted completely.
My link
So there were TWO Ryan Lanza's who grew up in Newtown, CT and now live in Hoboken, NJ?
The original one is gone from FB now - the one out there now is someone who updated their FB to reflect the same hometown/current hometown information - different set of FB friends for both. The one out there now isn't believeable - heck - people are creating Ryan Lanza facebook pages ow.
I don't know about any new one. I was looking at the original one earlier today (which has since been deleted) and it said he grew up in Newtown, CT and lives in Hoboken NJ. Honestly it may sound dumb but I've been watching CNN all afternoon and my first instinct as soon as they mentioned the name Ryan Lanza was to look him up on Facebook :bag: So there was definitely a Ryan Lanza on Facebook from Newtown CT. People are saying that Ryan Lanza isn't the killer. Which means there's another Ryan Lanza from Newtown CT.

ninja edit: Just heard on CNN that Lanza's brother was found dead in Hoboken NJ.
That post someone quoted earlier wasn't posted today. It was from last week.
What post?
I thought you were referring to the Facebook post on Ryan Lanza's wall that was quoted here earlier. Never mind.

Is it easy to get a bullet proof vest? Maybe we as a society should be rather inquisitive as to why people are purchasing these outside of law enforcement. This murderer was wearing one, I think the Colorado movie shooter had one and maybe the Oregon mall shooter? Forget the battle over gun control for a minute - would it make sense to start following the ball on the people who buy these? Is it normal for a 24 year old kid to buy a bullet proof vest?

Everyone, I know tensions are high on all of this. This is an awful tragedy that seems to be getting worse and worse as details are coming out. There is another thread to talk about gun control, what to do, etc. Let's keep those thoughts in that thread and keep this more to the event, thoughts for the families, etc. We have also lost a few posters today, so if you can't behave, I suggest you stepping away from these threads today.

Went to pick my 6 year old at school just now.

So saddening as you see all their innocent smiles all lined up coming out of class.

Very sad day.

Thoughts to families and people involved in this massacre.

I don't think I would either. I have kindergardner and two other young boys and I don't know what I would do. I've already cried a couple times just thinking about it and my boys. I know I wouldn't be able to function for a long time. Messed up situation, just messed up. What the hell makes someone kill all those 5-6 year olds?

Do you really think the lack of a vest would have stopped this from happening?

Agreed. Left work early so I could get my kids as they come out of school. Am about to see all the kids as they come out.

I think he is saying take a closer look at those who are buying the vests

Fox is reporting that Ryan Lanza's younger brother was found and arrested in the woods nearby, dressed in camouflage. No idea if that is true.

No, not really. But maybe big brother tracks him after his purchase and is there to stop him before he enters the school? Just thinking out loud. I know this is a touchy subject so was just curious about the nature of bullet proof vests....I've never thought to buy one.

Hate to talk about this in here, but I think the same thing about psychiatrists and medications. Something tells me that the mom, who he killed, was probably well aware of the evil inside her son. Normal people just don't do this. I read an article about two parents who had a son that was a sociopath and the person that interviewed the kid/mom talked about how they were afraid that he would one day kill his brother and how he talked about it. It was disturbing, but it wouldn't shock me to read about that kid doing something like this one day. I think with all the privacy issues and the hope that people can be good hides a lot of this. I am sure that even then it is still just a small amount of people in the at risk pool that do things like this, but even so, putting together a do not fly type of list for people and monitoring that for purchases like you mentioned is probably the only answer.

wait a minute - when we thought the shooter was Lanza, we knew his mom was a teacher & a victim there, right? Does that mean that the real Lanza's mom was killed here? What a terrible way to find out your mom was killed...

Boo hoo, Barry - we need your rage, not your grief.
Rage can be a very bad emotion for the worlds most powerful person.
Indeed. Coolness under stress is what we need from the people at the top.
Wikkid....who would you like to see our president press his rage upon?
My comment on this thread was a reaction to the press conference that is a part of the news of this awful day. I'll debate the issues on other threads in respect for those who want this to be a info/grief thread, if you want to try to find me there. I'll just say that two wks ago, i was about the only abolitionist on this board & i'm pretty sure i may be the only one on this board again in a month's time and that never has, does not & never will please me.

I like the talk. It's a thought I tend to agree with, but let's bring it over to the other thread. http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=671486

Police rep confirms: 18 children pronounced dead at the school, 2 more pronounced dead at local hospitals, 6 adults pronounced dead at the school.
   I once shot a bird with a bb gun when I was a kid and watched him flop around in pain before I shot him again to kill him. It tore me up. I hated myself for doing it. What on earth must happen to a soul before it can gun down humans as little as 5 years old.

The shooter was the brother, so same mother.

Roger. What a horrible, tragic, maudlin day for America.

I don't know how easy they are to get. But you can get them. What really upsets me about scumbags like this murderer is that they wouldn't dare go somewhere that they might get shot back at. Hey don't walk in to police stations and do this. They go to schools, churches and movie theatres where they know that there will be little to no resistance.I haven't seen my boys since yesterday morning due to working extra hours the past couple of days. But I can't imagine dropping them off at school and never seeing them again. I am both sad and angry about this situation. God watch over these families.

Exact same thing happened to me.

damn...so Ryan Lanza finds out that his brother killed a bunch of people including his parents from a facebook/twitter acount due to a mid-identification.

I don't think he's saying that, and IMO he's raising a good point. I don't understand why anybody would want to buy a bulletproof vest for anything other than nefarious reasons. I completely understand people who enjoy shooting, but I'm drawing a blank on legitimate uses for body armor.

:(

As a teacher and father just really sick of this stuff. Makes me want to carry a gun. I know that's just a reactionary feeling and probably more bad than good but still. I don't understand people.

Sorry, better for gun control thread

ABC News now reporting shooter could have been the brother.

20 kids now dead. 2 of the three kids who went to the hospital have died.

The Aurora and Oregon mall shooters were both wearing "load-bearing" vests that are not bulletproof.

fearful of your life? Afraid someone will try to shoot you - ex-spouse, etc?

Jack-booted government thugs and black helicopters.

I have not heard any mention of injuries/survivors. Sadly, it probably means that everyone within this guy's reach did not stand a chance.

Sounds that way. But the way the day has gone, who knows.

So is ryan lanza adams brother?
lol the whole thing is such a mess. There was definitely a Ryan Lanza on Facebook, who grew up in Newtown and now lives in Hoboken NJ. I was on his profile within like 30 seconds of the time his name was first mentioned on CNN. That page has since been deleted but these recent screenshots make it seem like he's still posting that he was at work, he's not the killer etc. So either:He's the killer and the screenshots are fakes? He's the killer's brother who was killed and the screenshots are fakes? He's the killer's brother, but not the brother who was killed, and he's posting on Facebook unaware that his mother/brother are dead? He's totally unrelated to the killer(s) and it's just a complete coincidence that his name is also Ryan Lanza and he also grew up in Newtown and also lives in Hoboken?I can't figure out which of those, if any, makes any sense to me. Am I missing something here?

With the rise in popularity of doomsday prepping I am gonna say sale of bulletproof vests will reach an all time high soon

So, if this is true, they found the Dad in the home and one other body (which originally was said that it was the youndger brother). Have they confirmed who that is, if it's not Ryan the older brother?
