Antoine Bethea.... (1 Viewer)

Mike Doss is an UFA. If he's re-signed and can get back to health during camp (ACL in October), there'll be competition. But I think it's safe to assume that Bethea has played well enough to keep the starting role and put Doss in a reserve role even if Doss remains a Colt.

My understanding is that Mike Doss (the old starter) is a FA and that the Colts will not be re-signing him. That means that Bethea should be the starter next year along with Sanders unless something unforeseen happens i.e. injury/draft/trade.

There were rumors that Marlin Jackson could move to safety, but most people "in the know" also have Nick Harper leaving via free agency so Jackson will likely take over for him at CB.

Thanks!I never knew that.Very good to know.

The guy is good! Jackson or Doss should back up Sanders at SS as they're both better suited there. I'm not in the Colts front office but Bethea is the starting FS for the foreseeable future. Sign, sealed and delivered! This guy is a grade-A playmaker!

S Doss Voids Final Year, Heads To Free Agency

Todd Porter, Canton Repository -

S Mike Doss has enjoyed his four-year career in Indianapolis. Now he is ready to move on. Doss and his agent, Tom Condon, informed the Super Bowl champions that Doss would void the fifth year of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent. Doss played in six games this past season before tearing a ligament in his knee in October and landing on injured reserve. Doss said he anticipated being a salary-cap casualty during the offseason. He could be one of the top unrestricted free-agent safeties on the market. S Deon Grant, S Ken Hanlin and S Gibril Wilson are others.

Heh, not sure what the Canton Repository is doing delving into the Colt DB situation, but it certainly makes it sound like Doss will be elsewhere in 2007. Makes sense, but always nice to have confirmation from folks closer to the situation. Also, Gibril Wilson is a restricted free agent. He's not going anywheres.

This link will explain everything. It explained what :) meant when I initially had no idea. Also shows what everything else means on these forums.

I've always wanted to put a :) into one of my posts, but haven't encountered the right situation yet.

Sorry for making this post so low brow. IMO Bethea will unquestionably be the starter in '07.
