THE NEWSVikings cornerback Antoine Winfield did not practice Wednesday and is listed as questionable on the injury report with a thigh injury. Head coach Brad Childress did not address Winfield's injury during his press conference, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Rookie Cedric Griffin would get the start if Winfield can't play against the Lions. Our ViewWinfield wasn't even in the locker room on Wednesday, so it doesn't look good. On the other hand yada yada yada...

He says he will play on Sunday.

Thanks for the link, I think. From it:
Defensive back Antoine Winfield missed a second day of practice Thursday because of a partially torn quadriceps muscle just above his left knee and remains questionable on the team's injury report. Winfield, though, said he will "definitely be ready to go" Sunday against Detroit. "Don't worry about that," he told reporters.

Today's practice should go a long way toward determining Winfield's status as the veteran plans to take part in drills.

"I need to get out there, move around and see how it feels," he said. "I haven't done anything the last two or three days. I'll definitely be out there running around, trying to cut on it, see how much pain I can deal with."
Is it just me or does Antoine sound a little too optimistic. Doctor? Partially torn quad above the knee!!?? Could be the worst thing about Antoine's situation is he's on my roster. That seems to be a curse this year.

Eeeesh. This sounds like Ahman Green waiting to happen...

Cedric Griffin could be a great pre-emptive pickup under the " rookie CBs who put up big stats because they're picked on unmercifully" theory. He struck me as the type of CB who is not aggressive and tries too much to keep the play in front of him in the Senior Bowl practices - perfect profile for an achilles heel to target on a tough defense.Just file that away in case Winfield's quad gives out.

Good call, and it devalues my boy Smoot. I think I just like saying his name. Smoot. Smoot got in a little undisclosed trouble a couple weeks ago and Griffin started for him. He made two tackles on the first drive of the game and Smoot got back on the field. Griffin will absolutely be picked on, probably quite affectively. Bad for Minny, good for us.

Not sure about the "not aggressive". I think Griffin should be a great fit for cover 2. Griffin plays physical and is a good tackler. I would not be surprised if he replaces Smoot at some point this season. In a different scheme, he would most likely be a S.

he's aggressive as a tackler, i'll give you that, but not in coverage. That being said, he's got the ability/talent to make plays that 3/4 of NFL CBs could make, so that helps make up for his more passive safety-like approach to coverage.

My bad, I agree with that.
