I just heard from my friend that lives in Tampa that Antonio Bryant is going to have kneee surgery - He heard it on the radio - interview with the GM

An optimist might think that he is going in for arthroscopic(ms likely) and he will be fine for the opener...but I have no idea really.

I caught the end of the interview with the coach after practice. They said that he would miss the preseason but should be ready for the first game.

Any confirmation of this? If so, it's big news and needs to get some attention. But as of right now I see no indication of this and at this time of year in the Shark Pool, a thread that says something unverified can be problematic.

He's already going somewhat late for a guy that was top10 last year, this should only push him down further...the Bucs QB situation is kinda scary but they will be playing catch up some and I bet the passing game at least gets a little mop up points when games are out of reach. I see the Bucs about 6-10 as far as record forecasts go.

From Pewter Report:

Bucs head coach Raheem Morris said that wide receiver Antonio Bryant will likely miss the entire preseason due to having his knee scoped. Bryant has missed several practices with soreness in his knee. The goal is to have the surgery now in order to have him ready to go by Week 1. Also, wide receiver Michael Clayton has been all but ruled out for the Bucs' preseason opener at Tennessee on Saturday. Stay tuned to PewterReport.com for more Bucs news live from training camp.

If Norseman says he heard it on the radio, I believe him. This isn't a situation where he was carted off the field...probably was talked about for a couple days and then the press release.

That's the word I was looking for...2-3 weeks, fine for the regular season opener. Blow this up and have it ready to hand out on draft day.

TAMPA – Bucs receiver Antonio Bryant will have surgery on his ailing left knee and will miss the entire preseason, Bucs coach Raheem Morris said Monday.

Bryant hurt his knee early in camp and has missed several days of workouts. Plans call for him to have the knee scoped and "cleaned out," according to Morris.

"We're going to scope it and clean it out and get him ready for the Dallas," Morris said, referring to the Bucs' Sept. 13 regular-season opener. "It's kind of been lingering with him so we decided to get in there and fix it up."

Morris said the knee is the same one Bryant hurt a year ago. He said Bryant has been battling through the pain in his meniscus and is hopeful the surgery will allow him to return to top form.

And the offense will be MUCH easier to pick up from the previous (Gruden) version...so I'd think the time he's put in to this point around camp would help.

Uh oh.

AB has been a model of inconsistency his whole career. The Bucs wouldn't sign him to a long term deal after last year's great season. They did sign Clayton to a nice deal though. Now this.

No chemistry developing with the new QBs in game action before the regular season is going to set things back beyond the actual time missed.

Winslow could be in for a huge year if he can stay healthy (a big if of course).

I see also that Clayton is dinged, I wonder whether it's worth drafting another WR from TB.
Bryan Clark is AB's backup...'08 2nd round pick Dexter Jackson and fan-fav Sammie Stroughter is also getting reps in camp.Doubt there's anything to see there though.

I agree with this. Situations like these can really present value.

And if he can shake the triple team coverage he will be seeing...

I'm not worried about chemistry, or ability to learn the O. AB is the best WR out there, and will be when he returns. The team is supposed to heavily rely on the run this year anyways, so I don't know how this makes them an offensive doormat.

I'm not going to say I am not concerned at all, but I wouldn't make a generalization that the Bucs O is going to suck.

Besides, he really only needs to be 100% by game 2, since I could probably burn the Cowboys secondary.
