Antonio Bryant (1 Viewer)

Trap Play

Footballguy
Hi all.

I am a 49ers 'homer', but I haven't had the opportunity to watch much of my team this season. Antonio Bryant started out hot, then fizzled. This wasn't unexpected, but is there reason to hope he gain can regain some of his early productivity with the schedule easing after Week 10?

What are your thoughts?

I'll be playing him now and again based on matchup. Looks like he plays cupcakes every other game the rest of the way and should put up some decent numbers. He has been an enigma though. Puts up ~30yards against Oakland & KC then ~80 yards against San Diego. You just dont know what youre getting each time he steps on the field.

As with most all WRs, there's going to be a fluctuation in his production. I'm going to go with him as my #3 WR the rest of the way. I think he fits that mold perfectly. He has a lot of upside and can produce huge weeks here and there. And, as a #3 WR it shouldn't kill me on his lower scoring weeks.

An owner in my league dropped Bryant for Michael Clayton and I picked Bryant up. In the 250 Going Forward, FBG has Bryant as a top 25 WR. He will be a strong #3 in bye weeks.

He's definitely a buy low candidate. After their week 8 game with the Bears, you can comfortably start him for their home games and also road games with weak opponents, such as Detroit.

I am actually about to drop Bryant for C Henry who got dropped by his owner when the suspension was announced. Not sure if i will start either of them in front of Coles and R. Moss. (can't seem to trade Moss, afraid to sit him)

You think Cincy's #3 is going to be more consistent that SF's #1?

I have him as a WR4 and I'm more than comfortable with the fluctuations...I just wish he could find the endzone a few more times...

I wouldn't panic. He had a pretty good game last week and continues to be a threat. He's a weak WR2 and a good WR3 in 12 team leagues.

After week 2 the local press reported that Bryant was getting double coverage and having a hard time adjusting, but now that Smith has proven he can spread the ball around I think teams are backing off that a little. The 9ers get their LG and LT back next week too. After week 9 they face some good matchups down the stretch.

Traded Brees, Fred Taylor and Bryant for Brady and S. Smith in a PPR league. Couldn't stand losing close games because of him.

WR's are now Smith, Holt, Driver and Kennison.

RB's are still Rudi and Chester.

In my 32 team league with IDP I just made an 8 player (per team) trade. Basically, the WR's involved were me giving up Bryant and Edell Sheperd for Cotchery and Eric Parker.

When Vernon Davis comes back... he will occupy alot more attention, freeing Antonio up some. I'm looking to use him some down the stretch. With OL and Davis, he should have some big games.

i just watched him get traded for Randy Moss  never would've beleieved that one if you told me last year
This should be vetoed, stat!
I agree. This trade is imbalanced. I'd much rather have Bryant than Moss.(j/k about trade being vetoed, not kidding about preferring Bryant to Moss.)

why should that be vetoed?? can you really make and argument for either one vastly outperforming the other????
:goodposting: I totally agree with this. I cant stand when people call for vetos because a "name" is involved in a deal. IMO trades should only be vetoed if it's totally obivous that the deal is one sided, or if its obvious someone is trying to help a buddy out in the strecth run. Who's to say that Moss will outperform Bryant??

damn you!! I almost didnt post anything because i thought you could be being sarcastic, but being some what new to posting more often i wasnt sure!!

Bryant started very hot. His fall concided with Vernon Davis' injury, now that Bryant is drawing most of the coverage. Hopefully, VD's return gives him a boost. I;d really like more consistency from him though. He is still a good WR3.

I may even start him against the Bears, he torched them for 2 scores last year.

i'm a niner fan myself, but with Bryant's current plays and how Alex Smith is distributing the ball to everyone on offense, i'd sit Bryant on the bench, until he shows he's a consistent performer.

Hope you have better options than Bryant on your WR corp.

I traded Randy McMichael for him this week. I have Shockey. My other WRs are Plaxico/Driver/Kennison.

Start 3 WR.

I have a feeling that he will start to pick it up second half of the season. There is really no reason for him not to with a few nice games ahead of him. It's not like thier defense is going to keep them in games, so Smith is going to be airing it out with some of the matchups coming up. Don't forget, Bryant is still his favorite target and a nice deep threat. He had 3 long TDs called back due to penalties this year which would have upped his #'s bigtime. I still have faith....

Sleeperz

Sold him *high* (i must have been) for Jamal Lewis & Musa in week 3 :bag: Keeper league - so I'm hoping for BAL RB in 07

RE: AB - Gore is about the only other viable threat on the 9'ers thus far. And IMO he's containable (by most decent Ds) w/o dumping xtra guys in the box. That enables the DC to roll coverage to AB when needed and safeguards the deep balls where AB gets a lot of his production. And to be realistic, A Smith is a 2nd year QB that's still learning the position and his WRs.

He's a decent RAC guy, but Smith doesn't seem to be getting him the ball in the right places (lately). The other posters are right about Davis' injury hurting Bryant's production. E Johnson was supposed to be the answer - but evidently he's not.

Like Sleeperz pointed out, Bryant seemed to live in the "TDs & big plays called back" thread for a while there. I'm holding onto him for sure.

I am contemplating dropping D Mason for him. Thoughts?

Right now I have Roy Williams, Tory Holt, B Edwards and D Mason. We only start two, so he would be sitting on the bench as insurance. What is better insurance, Mason or Bryant? Mason and McNair just haven't had the chemistry this year...

I would go with Bryant over Mason neither would crack your starting lineup but Bryant is averaging 20yds/rec with a team that can throw the ball better than Baltimore. I also would rather have Bryant over B. Edwards as well. Your league doesn't sound that deep and you should be set with Williams and Holt so it doesn't really matter

If Bryant's getting double teamed all the time then maybe Battle is the guy to grab.
:D :D If Battle is on anyone's team then the team must be in bad shape, no matter if Bryant is seeing double teams. Well it could be a 16 team league I don't know I take that back. Battle stats 20 rec. 233yds 2 TDs Bryant's 21 rec. 415 yds 1 TD. He is about 1 TD short of being a must start every week or 60 yards I am talking non ppr leagues

Well, since someone already asked a question about whether Byrant was worth rostering over Mason, let me ask a similar question. Between Bryant and Matt Jones, who would you rather carry going forward?

I may have just overpaid for Bryant (I gave Lundy and Keyshawn for Bryant and Mike Bell - I have Tatum).

I hope he turns it up a notch. He will be my #3 WR if I start 3 WRs (I normally just start 2 and use the flex for a RB).

His schedule:

8 at Bears

9 vs Vikings

10 at Lions

11 vs Seahawks

12 at Rams

13 at Saints

14 vs Packers

15 at Seahawks

16 vs Cardinals

After this week at Da Bears, his schedule looks pretty nice.
