Antonio Pierce's comments about the Raiders (1 Viewer)

Following the beatdown the Giants gave the Raiders last week, Pierce said this:

"I do not like knocking teams. But right now, they're struggling. We're playing that game the other day and, honestly, it felt like a scrimmage, like a practice. It felt like we were going against our offense (in a controlled setting) as far as the tempo. There was no vibe of trying or effort from the Raiders at all from a defensive standpoint against their offense. We're getting three-and-outs. You don't hear nobody (saying), 'Hey, let's go!' trying to pick the guys up, rallying them, getting guys fired up. There was nothing. It was quiet. A guy gets sacked or somebody gets beat, they just get up. It's not like there's yelling or no kind of (emotion) about the way they were playing. It was shocking to be out there in that game and get that kind of feeling."

The Raiders followed that up by shocking the Eagles yesterday, beating them 13-9. What are the odds Pierce said that, knowing that Oakland and Philly played a few days later, and hoping to motivate the Raiders so they would play their division rival tough?

I don't know if Pierce meant to motivate Oak vs. Philly or not. I can say that the Oak team that played yesterday was a totally different team then the earlier games I saw though. Especially on defense. They were flying around and playing with great emotion. They looked more physical than the Eagles and also looked hungry for a win. I do think his comments had a great impact on the Raiders, intentional or not.

That's actually a very interesting take and could very well have merit to it. If it's indeed why it was said, it was brilliant.

For those who watch the Giants, Pierce and brilliant never go in the same sentence

While Pierce was 100% accurate in his statement, they totally dominated Oakland, I could see him making that statemnet afterwards to get them riled up. Who'd have thought it would work. Of course, the Eagles gameplan sucked. That helped the cause.

It was a road game on the east coast - and from watching the game he hit the nail on the head. Manning, and the rest of the offense were doing what they wanted. The defense was doing whatever it wanted. The team that came to the meadowlands last week looked like it didn't want to be there. The team that I saw in the highlights last night, in front of their home crowd, was a total 180. Don't they usually play better in "the hole" historically? Like night and day better?

– Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce was just glad he could help.

A Raiders fan growing up in the Los Angeles area, Pierce’s observations about the lifeless Raiders being “like a scrimmage” in a 44-7 beatdown at the Meadowlands were posted in the locker room in Alameda _ and may have contributed to a win over Philadelphia. Which happens to be a division rival of the Giants.

“I was surprised that my quotes became bulletin board material. You know, again, I meant no disrespect by what I said last week. It was just my opinion of how I felt the game was going. But I was shocked to see how the Raiders went out there and played a very good Eagles team who we know very well,” Pierce said on Sirius Satellite Radio Tuesday. “And, you know what, that’s how it is in the National Football League, any given Sunday any team can go out there and play well.

“They got motivated by whatever. If it was my comments, you know, I’m happy because they beat the Eagles. But, you know what, they went out there and they played well and they got a win and it’s good for the franchise.”
