Any Fantasy Hockey guys? (1 Viewer)

I'm in a 10 team keeper league where we keep 2 players every year (draft spot doesn't matter)  I pick 11th after keepers, 3.11

I'm a beginner at this, my third year.  We start 6 Forwards (any) and 4 D with 2 goalies.  I think in the future we may expand to 3 or 4 keep forever if that matters when listing my options with age.

1. I'm keeping McDavid - He scored 284 points last year and led forwards.

For comparison Ovechkin was 10th with 243 points (an option of mine) and Marchard was 11th (another option of mine with 239 points.  Forwards receive: 3 per goal, 2 for assist and an extra 1 point if it's a PPG.  +/- as well.  nothing for PIM.

Defenseman get a lot of points as well which I have a couple options.  Defense get 5 per goal, an 3 per assist, and an extra 1 for PPG as well as +/-

I have Seth Jones who was D7 last year with 220 points (close to Ovechkin's 243 and much younger)  I also have Roman Josi who was D8 last year with 218 points.

Goalies we are reducing likely from 5 points to 3 points for a win, but adding 1 point for an OT loss. 0.2 per save and -1 per goal. with 3 per shutout.

My options here are:  Cam Talbot Goalie 9 with 341.6 points or Jake Allen Goalie 19 with 280 points.  The gap at goal was pretty large last year.  Hellebuyck had 464 points and goalie 20 had 277 points.  I'm not sure how much this will change because of everything.

Who would you keep:

Seth Jones, Ovechkin, Marchand, Josi, Talbot.

Then what positions would you target at 11 and early 4th?

@Aaron Rudnicki

I'd probably go McDavid, Marchard, target a good defenseman with my first pick.  If none you like are there take best forward available.  I'd probably wait a bit on a goalie with 10 teams and that scoring.

Thanks for the reply.  I think it's between Marchand, Ovechkin, and Seth Jones honestly.  If I keep Ovechkin, I could shop him for somebody else during the season on name appeal.  I really like Seth Jones, hopefully he'd be there at 3.11

I used to absolutely love our fantasy hockey.  I was all in.  After the last strike I've just not gotten back into it like I used to.

Yes I still watch - but I'm definitely more in the casual fan category now than hardcore

moot - not on the list

Bumping this - what ended up happening?

Hope you didn't have to decide on Seth Jones before his injury

Just had my auction draft - it's very different scoring.  Was able to keep two (priced at $10 above what they cost the previous year's draft - only can keep a guy one year and only can keep guys you drafted)

Daily Lineup changes. Both Goalies always start (limit 12 goalie games per 2 weeks):
Lineup each day: LW, RW, C, D, D, Util, Util, G, G Head-To-Head (2 week periods)

Scoring:
Skaters: Goal 3, Assist 2, Plus/Minus 1, PIM negative 0.4, Power Play Point 1, Short Handed Point 2, Game winning Goal 2,
Face off win +0.2, Face off loss -0.2, Shifts 0.1, Hat trick 5, Shots on Goal 0.1, Hits 0.2, Blocked Shots 0.2

Goalies: Win 3, Loss -3, Goal Again -2.5, Saves 0.5, Shut Out 5, OT Loss 1

15 player roster - 10 teams - $200 auction listed by ESPN main position (with extra position in parentheses) sorted by cost (not order acquried)

Connor McDavid Edm, C $44
Tyler Seguin Dal, C $28
Claude Giroux Phi, C $28 (keeper - also LW)
Patrice Bergeron Bos, C $19
Brock Boeser Van, RW $9
Ryan O'Reilly StL, RW $6 (also C)
Kyle Palmieri NJ, RW $6
Jaden Schwartz StL, LW $5
Jason Zucker Min, LW $4
John Carlson Wsh, D $11 (keeper)
Ryan Ellis Nsh, D $4
Colton Parayko StL, D $1
Ryan McDonagh TB, D $1
Frederik Andersen Tor, G $21
Matt Murray Pit, G $13

I feel pretty good about it - Giroux and Carlson were tough calls but I think worth their price.  I had Andersen last year (woulda been $25 to protect) - He's so good for volume.  Murray I'm a little more nervous on but people were paying a lot for goalies and I wanted to stick to the projection values I had.  If Murray gets hurt again I have my eye on Rantaa.  O'Reilly is a beast in this format and way way undervalued (I could have protected him for $14 and waited a long long time before sneaking in my nomination of him.  Incredibly happy to get him at $6 (he was 15th overall among skaters in points in this format last year - he got 84.8 points from faceoffs alone, Toews was next at 49.4 points and most of the league was less than 100 if positive at all). Anyway thoughts appreciated :)

Drafted my points league last night. I'm clueless my team doesn't look sexy.  The value based app really elevated defenseman because they get 5 per Goal and 3 per assist instead of 3/2.   PPG also 1 extra for everyone, outside of that +/- is the only other offensive category outside of SHG.

Keepers were:  McDavid and Marchand. (weekly lineups)

Start 6 F's - 4 D and 2 Goalies.

Mcdavid, Marchand, Barzal, Connor, Schwarz, Monahan   (Schenn, Hischier, Pulijavi, Fiala)

Josi,  Dumba, Doughty, Hamilton  (Pulock)

Talbot, Jake Allen (Crawford)  (3 per Win, 1 for OTL, 0.2 per Save, -1 a goal)

I'm in over my head I think - the lineup isn't sexy but looking back on it I messed up a bunch.

3.9 - I took Josi over Pat Kane/Scheifele  Top 5 goalies,

4th round took Dumba and got laughed at over Kane/Klinberg

Do I want to drop any Forward depth or goalie #3 for an sleepers?

It's a 10 team league.

Landeskog, Duchene, Heidkanen, Rattie, Lindholm (Ducks) Palat, Meier, or any other sleepers?

I feel I have a bunch of guys on potential bad teams.

apologies if this is in the wrong place...didn't see any NHL discussion in the DFS Forum.

any leans/fades for Wednesday night's slate on DraftKings? thinking L1 & L2 for TOR will be pretty chalky. not sure what to do with WAS right now: could be a literal and figurative hangover coming off a championship, but hard to leave that much firepower out of lineups. leaning M.Jones in goal for now, and will probably have a L3 Shark like Donskoi or Labanc in there for value.

thoughts?

Wish I had better thoughts for daily fantasy but I only do season long :)  wouldn't want to steer you wrong.  Hard to see the game being anything but a Leafs blowout but ya never know.

As for GBS's team it's always good to see if any players pop out early before making moves.  I paid the $10 for thr leftwinglock draft kit and my track record in my league has been pretty good.  Their regular site is a good source for line combinations and goalie starters.

Scouting those line combos can be great info for sleepers as a random guy paired with a superstar can be a bargain.  They also have the power play combos and that can be a good source for sleeper defensemen.

I’ve started using LeftWingLock last season. Agreed: good, up-to-date info there. Sortable stats (CORSI, etc) have been helpful as well.

Ended up with 7 lineups for tonight.

Overweight on Jones in goal (4/7), underweight on Anderson (1/7), and Holtby in the others.

TOR stack has Tavares, Marner, Ennis and Matthews. SJ stack w Old Man Joe, Timo, and Pavelski. Have a smattering of Labanc and Donski. One lineup with Burns/Karlsson that will either win all the monies or DFL. Only BOS exposure is McAvoy at D, and only one share of Ove.

Happy hockey.

:( sorry I didn't see this sooner.  Seems like two guys that would be must start so i good problem.  Didn't see Mackinnon on your roster above.  Or was this a trade offer?

-QG

If a trade offer as hard as it is to pass on McKinnon it would really nuke your defense situation and given the premium points for D that much tougher. What kind of FA Defensemen are out there?
